There was an article going around on FB about a woman who went undercover as a child (11 or 13 year old I believe) on Instagram. I forget who she worked with but their goal was to catch predators. Within minutes of posting a selfie she had grown men contacting her and sending explicit pics on themselves and asking for revealing photos of her. Does this stuff really happen?
If there is a sealed envelope containing account credentials (Username and Password combinations), how do those get updated when a password changes, or expires? In the likely event of a data breach by one of those services, it would be time to change the credentials on that account, and any others that shared similar aspects. Is there a way to reach out with these sorts of internet common sense discussions to children with a poor relationship with their parents/guardians? Maybe their parents are not as attentive as they could be. How successful has our Internet Crimes Against Children been? We have helped X kids who need Y resources? We have stopped Z perpetrators from continuing? Since a perpetrator could be anybody, and with the housing situation the way it is in town, are there procedures to ensure your roommates/community members that you are not one, and also be sure that they are not one as well? Besides children, are there other vulnerable groups that could have similar links or information to help out? I know my grandfather fell for a tech support scheme and I regret learning about it after the fact. My grandma was on top of things when a cold call from her "grandson" who was in trouble and she called me to make sure the person who called was not me. Would that be a different department or task force?
Sometimes it's one of the parents that is abusing the child. Sometimes it's both the parents that play a role maybe they are too afraid to tell one parent cause that other parent might not believe them or they did tell the parent what the other parent is doing and they didn't believe the child. So why would a child want to say anything if they don't think anyone is gonna believe them...
