The craft with the disc and the yarn through the middle is a craft known as Kumihimo (Ku-mi-hi-mo), which a Japanese craft used to make bracelets and necklaces. It means "gathered threads" in Japanese
And to keep the threads from tangling they are wrapped on bobbins or shuttles. It's meant to be meditative, but I usually do kumihimo while watching a movie.
I think the 'hack' part is making your own loom by recycling cardboard - I got a couple of foam versions, one round and one square that makes strips. I find it boring too, but good for fidgeting in front of the tv.
I guess , since it's super simple, it would be good to make when you just need your hand busy on road trips and such, with scratchy synthetic yarn you wish to use up. Then you end up with something machine-washable that's a nice ornamental trim for your main crochet projects.
The painting with the yarn was very popular craft with my lower grade students. We used water colors or watered-down acrylics and the children really enjoyed doing it. We had some lovely art to hang inthe classroom.
I actually made some of the hats (from yarn craft 3) for my guinea pigs a few years ago as their little chrissie hats, but I did make them a little differently to in this video: I attached the yarn the same as the tutorial video, but then I flipped the strands through the centre of the loo roll ring and out the other side so it looks like the beanie rim has been folded up, idk it just looked a little neater. My piggies deserve the finest quality clothing! 😉
Some others have said that the 5 min craft video skipped a step or two, so maybe that's what you did? And also, guinea pigs in tiny yarn hats?!? Omg! I love it so, so much.
My sister and I had the same first grade teacher but 3 years apart. We both made one of these hats as a Christmas ornament in her class. We put cotton balls inside so they wouldn't get squished lol
So I’m a spinner. Cat fur is actually pretty grabby and it can be “spun” using your fingers if you twist and pull at the same time. To make it even stronger it could be plied. I’ve spun the undercoat of a dog, too.
If you pause at 19:01 and zoom in on the cat fur yarn it has been braided in some manor before being balled. They skipped that step in the 5 min hacks video. Have you seen this other cat fur hack; you needle felt a mini cat out of its own fur?
they also twisted the cat fur as they pulled it from the bundle, which _is_ essentially how you spin yarn, but you need much longer fibers than your cat had kdkdkd if she was a long-haired cat it _maybe_ could work from an experienced spinner but definitely not a novice and not with short hair kdjdkdkd
I made those little beanie/hat things for Christmas ornaments. There's an added step to pull the yarn through the hoop after tying to hide the knots a little more, then make the "pompom". They're nice small crafts for say, a casual knitting circle exchange.
This. I wanted to comment the same both about the missed step and making those as holiday ornaments (I’m actually Jewish but I suppose they aren’t technically Christmas specific though what does a Jew do with an ornament lol) as a kid. They vaguely fit on Barbie doll heads if I recall correctly. 😂But I agree. They’re cute as a kid craft.
I made these as Christmas ornaments too. Tucking them inside made them look more finished and I also tucked a small bit of tissue paper inside to hold the shape.
tbh those earrings actually look really good on you specifically. something about your hair, your outfit, your makeup...it just fit your vibe. you can pull them off!!
12:00 - indeed it is a tiny beanie. I have seen similar beanies topping wine bottles as winter season adornments. I believe the professionally made ones manage without a cardboard insert to give them structure.
The cat yarn is not bs! You have to twist it when you pull from the pile. Depending on the length depends on how much you twist I’ve spun cat, dog, camel, buffalo rabbit, sheep and goat. It’s addictive!!
Alot of these projects are good for the littles and Seniors. Great to do with your nieces and nephews. 🤗#4 are mini hats. Usually used as ornaments for a christmas tree. They are great crafts for kids and senior adults. I also did #5 at a Senior Center too. And the paint one too...
The yarn earrings went so well with your colorful look. If you are allergic to the metal piece...paint all the metal with clear nail polish. As long as there's no exposed metal to your skin. The alternatives that you gave if you made earrings would make an awesome future video idea. Definitely would love to see how a cute crotchet motif would look as an earring.
I'll have to credit you for unofficial hack number seven: adding clear nail polish to fake earrings 😂. I'm going to give that a go and if it works, you can bet I'll make a whole earring video. Cheers!
Just be careful wearing them for extended periods of time. The nail polish will wear off. And depending on how bad your allergy is, it may not work. Tried it on earrings and watch backs, worked for a few hours for me on the watch, and my earlobes started itching after only a few minutes. But I have severe metal allergies. Its different for everyone.
that last bit we did in school when i was around 9 or 10. i think the picture ended up being like calla lillies. it would work better with a bit shorter yarn than you used, the paint needs to be thin, and you only pull one end. your visiting children might enjoy it.
with wool/dog hair/ cat hair... regardless of the fiber you use.. you have to card that stuff... (make all the fibers go one direction.. this produces a "batting" which is then twisted into yarn. Those 2 inch thick "arm knitted" yarn blankies are actually batting.
The reason spinning works with wool and the like is because there are actually barbs on the fibers which hook together, so when you stretch the roving out and twist it, it locks together and that is what makes the yarn stay yarn and not fall apart like what happened to you. I'm not an expert, but I don't think that dog or cat has that same barb texture to it. Thus, why those who mix in dog and cat very often blend in wool and other fibers that do lock. I am not certain as I have never worked with it myself, but I think rabbit might be the same as well, too slick to spin on its own.
If dust-bunnies had a mascot... that 2nd Craft would be it XD super cute! XD Maybe the tiny beany can be used as an egg warmer for boiled eggs at Sunday breakfast .-.
The pompom bunny makes me want to make Fuzzy and Wuzzy, the dust bunnies that live under The Big Comfy Couch. My sister found and gifted me a Molly doll.. I’m going to have to try to make them!!
The cardboard disc is definitely different that the cork craft you described as French knitting. I had a book as a kid that called it corking and came with two plastic "corks" in different sized. That weaves the yarn together in the same way as finger knitting (crochet chain stitch on your finger) and finger loops (stretchy fabric loops you twisted over your fingers to make a long strip). The disc is making more like a multi-stranded brain or twist.
Not at the moment. This was the very first piece of clothing I ever made, so I wasn't at all qualified to make a tutorial lol. I am considering making one at some point in the future though.
The French knitting is suitable for children, our grand children love fidgets. Presumably fidgets help with concentration and attention to task. I’d rather children did this craft than playing with some silly piece of plastic, the good thing about it is that eventually it will lead to crocheting or knitting. I love watching your channel, your content is truly amazing, I’m in awe of everything you make.
i feel like the earrings have potential. i definitely have friends who would love them. maybe theyd be a good gift. but as u mentioned... u could just crochet something
The toilet paper tube was meant to be a beanie. There is a step missing from their tutorials where you pull it through to make it beanie looking. I made several years ago and they turned out looking really cute. Great if you want a mini hat for a toy or as table decorations
There are a lot of reels on Instagram that are very short crochet tips or tricks or at least teach you a new stitch? Maybe you could do a video on those.
I have seen something like that too - I have seen Christmas tree baubles used to make the head and face, a wooden bead to make the nose and some fake fur to make the beard.
The little beanie hats are really cute on a Pom Pom made into a gnome. I made several like that for Christmas ornaments last year. I'll try to find a photo and tag you with it so you can see what I'm talking about
you have to twist the cathair you are pulling out. It cannot hold. But the one you have is a little bit too short. I spin yarn and it is possible with cat hair and doghair. But it should be a little bit longer and the twist ist important
I have afrench knitting spool dolly. What they call french knitting is kumihimo which is a Japanese craft. It makes lovely beaded bracelets, necklaces and earrings but not much else

Animal fibers are too short to spin by hand. They must be spun with a spinal or spinning wheel. This creates enough twist for the yarn to hold itself together. If you used plant fibers such as nettles or flax (linen) you could twist the fibers into cord or yarn with your hands. 😊
In my experience you can spin yarn out of (mostly) cat/dog fur but you need to card it with some wool beforehand, otherwise the hair will be too short and smooth to stick. That said, with a little practice you can make rolags that are 70-80% pet fur and spin yarn out o f them...
I'm mentally renaming this to "stash buster projects" which seems to be another overly used category on UA-cam for yarn crafts....omg bonus ... includes the last art project as well
Gotta say, I don't think you look like a clown! I actually think your makeup looks really cool in this video! Less than 4 minutes in the video and I came here to say that too. I use Kumihimo to make cords for lanyards. It’s also used for friendship bracelets.

They use it for shoe lace or the string for the hoodies and jogging too
The painting with the yarn was very popular craft with my lower grade students. We used water colors or watered-down acrylics and the children really enjoyed doing it. We had some lovely art to hang inthe classroom.
That is a hat use for a Christmas tree ornaments I just add a hook or yarn to hang it on the tree
I actually made some of the hats (from yarn craft 3) for my guinea pigs a few years ago as their little chrissie hats, but I did make them a little differently to in this video: I attached the yarn the same as the tutorial video, but then I flipped the strands through the centre of the loo roll ring and out the other side so it looks like the beanie rim has been folded up, idk it just looked a little neater. the cat hair yarn works 100% you just need to card the fur so all the fibers are facing the same direction, and you need to twist as you’re pulling
Ooh tiny amigarumi earrings, would love to see that
So I’m a spinner. Cat fur is actually pretty grabby and it can be “spun” using your fingers if you twist and pull at the same time. To make it even stronger it could be plied. I’ve spun the undercoat of a dog, too.

...Properly, that is. Not like in the video 😂

I ABSOLUTELY ❤❤❤ your sweater!!
13:37 i believe it's supposed a beanie ornament ^^

Also sheep’s wool has these barbs that sort of interlock when you spin it which dog or cat die doesn’t have.
I love your sweater/hoodie. Looks so cozy and the colours pop!
❤ I also love your bear in the back with all the colors
I made those little beanie/hat things for Christmas ornaments. There's an added step to pull the yarn through the hoop after tying to hide the knots a little more, then make the "pompom". They're nice small crafts for say, a casual knitting circle exchange.

@@TziporaRaphaella Funnily enough, I'm Jewish too! My knitting circle was mostly christian though lol.
I made these as Christmas ornaments too. Tucking them inside made them look more finished and I also tucked a small bit of tissue paper inside to hold the shape.
I had a friend that crocheted snowman stuffy type decorations and used these hats for them.
i think the paperclip earrings *could* make cute candy corn earrings but that's about it imo
Yes, 3 is a hat, we usually make them where I live as xmas ornaments or to go on tiny pom pom snow men
I remember the spool knitting from back in the 1960s. It has been around for a long time .
tbh those earrings actually look really good on you specifically. something about your hair, your outfit, your makeup...it just fit your vibe. you can pull them off!!
Thanks so much!! I might have revisit this one and make a pair that I can actually wear.
12:00 - indeed it is a tiny beanie. I have seen similar beanies topping wine bottles as winter season adornments. I believe the professionally made ones manage without a cardboard insert to give them structure.
I never would have thought to stick them on wine bottle, but honestly, that sounds kind of cute.
I thought it could be an egg warmer. You know when you cook an egg for breakfast and want it to stay warm longer just put it on top.

The hat thing is used for Christmas tree ornaments. Just attach a hanger.
I love, love, love your jumper!
Thanks!! It was the first piece of clothing I'd ever crocheted so I'm glad it's appreciated despite some of its flaws lol.
I love this, thanks 😊
The card board disk with thread is how we made friendship bracelets as a kid

Honestly, I think your bunny looked cuter than the 5 minute crafts one. Its scraggly fur was very endearing
The brutal honesty about useless hacks is always music to my ears 👌
The little hat, I made Christmas ornaments out of them. Add little snowflakes or fashion buttons.
The third one is a hat. They make cute ornaments.
I see a person holding a bag with a yellow bear over their shoulder. Second painting I saw a tree in autumn. Great video
I love all the wildly different things that've been seen 😂.
And thanks 😊
Love your sweater!!
Thank you :)
"how do i look?"
"Crazy! But cute" 🥰
Toilet roll hats are ornaments for a Christmas tree.
If dust-bunnies had a mascot... that 2nd Craft would be it XD
super cute! XD
Maybe the tiny beany can be used as an egg warmer for boiled eggs at Sunday breakfast .-.
I use the little beanies as wine bottle toppers for Christmas presents
I think those little hats are for putting on boiled eggs, in an egg cup?
I don't know why an egg would need a hat (does it keep them warm?) but why not? 😂

Do you have a tutorial for your sweater? It's amazing!!
Not at the moment. This was the very first piece of clothing I ever made, so I wasn't at all qualified to make a tutorial lol. I am considering making one at some point in the future though.
I did the same with the cotton reel with the four nails and made little mats.
My life is *officially* changed forever ~ thanks so much
You're very welcome. I mean, let's be real, how could it not be with the quality of those crafts? 😂😂
I use that star braid style as ties for things. I've used it for drawstrings.
Yes would love to see what you come up with
#4 is a mini hat for a small crocheted animal or toy.
They look great on you
The French knitting is suitable for children, our grand children love fidgets. Presumably fidgets help with concentration and attention to task. Thank you so much! I totally agree, it would be a great introduction to more complex fibre arts like crochet or knitting 😊
I've seen the hat thing being used for little snowmen made of old white socks and a little stuffing.
about the little hat-my coworker once used her scrap yarn to make those and gave them out as ornaments!
Do needle felting with the cat hair. You can make a cat with it and you'll have a keepsake for when she dies
That's a nice idea! And Needle felting is one of those crafts that's been on my "To Try" list for a while.
You made a dust bunny. :D
I love the whole look and Stitches is cheering you on on the sidelines! The hoodie is fabulous!

I could use those toilet roll hats for when i make snowmen.
Cheers! I reckon they would make a cute addition to a little amigurumi snowman.
That toilet roll hat gets used as an ordiment on a Xmas tree or on a pom pom snowman
The toilet paper roll and yarn is a Christmas ornament
It can be a hat for an amiguri snowman.
I've gotten the tiny hats on wine during the holidays. I think it's a tiny decoration to make it look cute.
There are a lot of reels on Instagram that are very short crochet tips or tricks or at least teach you a new stitch? Maybe you could do a video on those.
ive seen the little hats being used with a small pompom or some sort of sphere and a nose to make a gnome
I have seen something like that too - I have seen Christmas tree baubles used to make the head and face, a wooden bead to make the nose and some fake fur to make the beard.
My mom used to kroshay a lot. And now that she doesn't, we have a lot of yarn, and I want to use it.
Your makeup is cool
Thank you :). Though I can't take credit for it, that's all my sister's hard work.
The little beanie hats are really cute on a Pom Pom made into a gnome. I made several like that for Christmas ornaments last year. I'll try to find a photo and tag you with it so you can see what I'm talking about
The kitty hair one will work if you know how to spin yarn out of it... just takes practice and patience. :) Good try though.
The last paint thing works but it takes practice and you need that stiffer cord like twine. Its a variation on chain pull art.
I've seen other videos with the little hats. Usually they make a white pom to make a little gnome ornament
you have to twist the cathair you are pulling out. It cannot hold. But the one you have is a little bit too short. I spin yarn and it is possible with cat hair and doghair. But it should be a little bit longer and the twist ist important

The 3rd one with bog roll looks like something you would put on a dangling mobile
That's what I was thinking initially, it looks like it should be hanging from something 😂
@@SkeinSpider I have seen people cut a wire hanger then twist it to create a spiral which they then dangle things from so it spins in gentle breezes

I see two people hugging in your string Art. We made those in Kindergarten.
Aw, that's really sweet and I'm pretty sure we made them in Kinder too 😂.
You have to have some basic spinning knowledge to even attempt the cat fur thing, and I'm not convinced their "fiber" is long enough.
Maybe Mainecoon?
It is a beanie hat xmas tree decoration 🎄
Maybe the hats are supposed to be little party decorations? Idk 😂
As good a guess as any! Most people in the comments have said they're supposed to be Christmas ornaments, so maybe Christmas party decorations?? 😂

Animal fibers are too short to spin by hand. They must be spun with a spinal or spinning wheel. This creates enough twist for the yarn to hold itself together. If you used plant fibers such as nettles or flax (linen) you could twist the fibers into cord or yarn with your hands. 😊

You need to twist the fur... and hot glue it together
I see an alien with wings, looking in a mirror.....lol
Nice! 😂😂
They look like little toque beanie garland or danglies 11:35
Dealing with the cat fur you have to twist it in order to make thread
