Thanks Peter, appreciate the comment! It was a massive job getting it to the point you saw in this video, and I'm super close to getting some epoxy and colour onto it - just been waiting for the weather to get a little better! See you on the next one mate 😎👌
@ No problem Rob, I think it’s the compliments that keep us going because it’s hard to see the top of the mountain sometimes! I built an XT GT tribute in gold with a 347 stroker which took 10 years, stupidly swapped it for a GT Mustang with only 1000k’s on it… wish I’d kept my XT! Here’s a vid of it idling: ua-cam.com/video/yLwge6wuHSo/v-deo.html
@@peterc2876 the compliments, comments and feedback definitely do keep me motivated. There's no better feeling than seeing the UA-cam notification that someone has left me a comment 😎 That XT looks amazing. I bet you miss her every day, especially on those nice 25 degree cruising nights! Will you build another?
@@RestoHubAU I’ve actually built an XB GT tribute in Pepper Red since, that took 5 years. Just sold it in October to a collector on the GC, unfortunately the cost of living shit we’re all going through got the better of me so had to sell it also 🤬Biggest issue is I don’t have a shed to keep them in so was paying for car storage also which I couldn’t sustain with everything else atm. Next house I going to get a shed so I can just get a project car and potter along with. Are you a panel beater by trade or have you self taught your welding skills etc? Admittedly I’ve had to rely on others to do all the paint/panel work and mechanical. My forte however is sourcing parts, organising nickel plating of all the fasteners and fittings and rebuilding and restoring the interior and dash etc. How do I send you some pics of the XB?
Oh jeez sorry to hear you had to sell the XB, I've got a soft spot for XA and XB GTs - I'd love to build one but the boss wants me to build her something else 🤣 Hopefully your goal of getting a home with a shed comes to reality soon so you can get right back into another project, and of course enjoy it when it's done...but that said, the funs in the journey right 😁 Not a beater by trade, but was a mechanic 20 odd years ago and not afraid to have a go. Welding, fabrication and painting is something I love, so just having a go as I enjoy learning and trying new things. You can contact me on rob@restohub.au mate, look forward to seeing the pics! 😎🤙
Love the commitment and the attention to detail you showed on the underside. I’ve just been through it with my XE on a rotisserie and it was a bugger of a job. Hats off to you sir.
Thanks for the feedback Stephen! It's definitely been an adventure doing this on jack stands and a creeper. Going to be interesting priming and painting it that's for sure! See you on the next one mate 😎🤙
Hi Rob, the time and dedication you are putting into restoring your XT is second to none. I have an XT Fairmont and one day I would like to get it back on the road. Please keep the videos coming as I enjoy watching them and I cannot wait to see the end product.
Thanks for the feedback Watto, appreciate it! I'll definitely keep the videos coming. Sometimes general life gets first priority and I might be a bit delayed like this video, but will keep them coming. Would love to see your XT project if you were local. See you on the next one mate 😎🤙
Thanks for the feedback John! Yeah, I plan on spraying the insides of the rails with a rust inhibitor after it's all coated underneath. Thanks again, and see you on the next one 👌😎
Great to see more progress on the XT Rob. Are you going with floor shift or column shift? It could make a good episode seeing you cut out the section on the tunnel before you paint the floor interior and epoxy the underside. Looking forward to the Barra turbo build, your XT may be a tyre frying beast as well as a super cool cruiser. I'm looking forward to the next episode of the build.
Thanks Warren! Going floor shift, but not the traditional factory shifter, running a B&M Megashifter. I'll definitely pop a video of me installing that though! Hows the XY? See you on the next one mate 😎🤙
@RestoHubAU Cool, you only need to pre fit shifter and drill holes to mount it and one for the cable. I haven't been able to do anything on the XY for a few months 😕 hopefully I will get back into it again soon.
@@warrenbrown5621 yeah good point. I may temporarily fit the driver seat, and pre fit the shifter before I prime underneath. 🤔 Otherwise if I drill it after priming, I may have to touch up the exposed bare metal from drilling.
Thanks Greg! As you saw, I bolted the brace down exactly how you had it done in your XR! It was a great idea, so I had to follow suit 😀 Thanks again for the help with the trans. Your machine work and knowledge is second to none. See you on the next one legend 😎🤙
I got a xtgt late 70s early 80s and pulled it apart and fixed it up, but to see the work you've done puts me to shame. Gr8 job. BTW I'm still playing with cars. I've taken a 67 Mustang 6 and am putting in a 302w t5 and 9". Thanks for your videos.
Thanks for the feedback Peter! Sounds like you were doing this when I was still a young tacker. XT GT, such an amazing machine. Do you still have it? Mustang project sounds great mate, would love to see it if you're local. Thanks again, and see you on the next one 😎👌
Sadly no, back then I had to sell one car and move to the next, I swapped it for a mint landau and met my future wife, BTW she had a superbird, and life started kids house ect... seeing you with that xt really brings it all back. Thanks again. P.s I'm now going to pull the front end out of my 67 and convert it to disc brakes.

Hey Rob, just found your channel yesterday. I've now watched every episode and am really enjoying them. I must admit that I'm glad you've just about finished the undercarriage, as I'm sure you are. Your meticulous approach is to be admired and will pay huge dividends I'm sure. Where did you get the XT from? It's in incredible condition. The fact that you're only dealing with surface rust is amazing.
Hey Brendan Glad you found me 👌 Appreciate you taking the time to watch all my videos. As you've probably seen, it's been quite the journey! Oh yes, I'm very glad to have the undercarriage now ready for next steps. The weather's too cold for priming now unfortunately, but as soon as we get some warm weather I'll be finishing it off! I picked up the XT about 16 years ago. 2 owner original super low milage. She's mint! I've been overseas and now about to get back into it - very keen to say the least. Stick around for more updates coming soon, see you on the next one mate👌😎

i am doin a xf ute, thinking i might warm the epoxy primmer up by sitting it in hot water, before spraying, and warm metal up with a heat gun, not sure what the paint company thinks of that though.
Thanks for the comment Jack. Your thoughts on heating the panel up, and also the epoxy aligns to the thoughts I got back from the manufacturer of the epoxy I use (RestoFinish). So I think you'll be fine! I'll most likely follow the same process if I decide to prime in the winter. Thanks again, and see you on the next one mate 😎🤙
Thanks Clint, appreciate the feedback! In terms of primer, I used a 1k etch - Dulux FleetShield UltraEtch Primer. Externally I use a 2k epoxy, but given its inside, decided to keep it as per factory with the 1k. See you on the next one mate 🤙😎
