I thought for sure I’d struggle to get pregnant after having so many surgeries myself and with my crohns issues. I got pregnant back to back (miscarried the first time). Flared really bad during pregnancy and delivered early for unrelated (to IBD) reasons.... BUT have a healthy happy baby!

Please please don't settle for the "just take birth control" treatment. I did that for 10 years and it did not help either my mood swings or my endometriosis or my bowel issues. A good gyno will not just put you on BC without investigating the root cause of your issues. Also, I have had a dozen "normal" transvaginal ultrasounds when I what I had was severe deep infiltrating endometriosis. Your symptoms sound like something is going on. If BC helps you, great, but it's a bandaid at best and it can actually make certain things worse. You deserve to know what's causing your issues so you can get the best possible treatment.

birth control (the pill and mirena coil) has been so so fantastic for me (i have PMDD, PCOS, and endo). Everyone is different xx

i agree. please don’t settle. like you said, birth control is not completely without risk. there are several birth controls that are known to cause things like increased intracranial pressure (because they increase your CSF production) and they actually increase your risk of a stroke. my aunt was in her 40’s and running marathons and preparing for a triathalon when she had a stroke because of birth control.
i don’t say this to scary you out of taking the birth control. birth control is great when it works appropriately... but i definitely think there are other options out there to pursue first.
especially if you consider that birth control is not really fixing the problem... it’s masking it. what’s going to happen when you come off of it? will you have to suffer with PMDD symptoms until you get pregnant? immediately go on birth control after giving birth to prevent PMDD symptoms?

    • @felicityaeh
      @felicityaeh 5 років тому

Bumpy Back Roads What would fix the PMDD then?

    • @darkbluematter1753

Felicity I struggled with my PMDD until this year when I had surgical menopause induced (for my endo but it had the side effect of doing away with those horrible mood swings), I obviously do not recommend that to someone young and planning to have a family. Antidepressants and counseling are an option for PMDD. They did help me stay more stable. PMDD is a tough nut to crack.

DarkBlue Matter I’ve tried antidepressants and antipsychotics and am in therapy (for the last 5+ years). The only thing that had helped my PMDD had been a combo of the pill and mirena coil. Obviously birth control hasn’t helped the endo and PCOS as much but still slight improvements in those areas. I want a hysterectomy but not until I’m sure I don’t want kids (is that the surgical menopause you were talking about?) xx

Hi Maggie, I just wanted to give you a little encouragement by telling you about my daughter’s experience. She used to suffer terribly with PMT & was eventually put on “ the pill”, which she still takes even now. It is a progesterone only pill called Cerazette. The good news is that it worked for her & she was able to have five beautiful boys in between times. Their ages are 20,18,15,13 & 4. You can still have a happy ending. I know everybody’s circumstances are different but it could happen for you too. Wishing you & Zack all the very best from Kit. XX.

same with me, the pill was a before and after in my life, the only thing that helped me actually but I take a combined pill

Even if the cause of your symptoms is something like endo or adenomyosis, birth control (a silly slang term for medication that treats a wide variety of medical conditions) is usually the first-line treatment anyway. Also, the PMDD would indicate at least part (if not all) of the problem is indeed hormonal. Keep in mind that the first form of birth control you try may not work, so don't be discouraged as there are so many to try out there and how you feel on one type is no indication of how you'll do on another type. Also, I went through a period of unbalanced hormones like this and it eventually went away because your hormones naturally fluctuate as you age (I switched birth control in the meantime to mitigate the symptoms). For me it occurred when was in my mid-twenties and it lasted maybe 18 months. So, if you are on birth control for a year, you won't necessarily experience the same symptoms again when you get off of it.

Just curious coming from a girl who's mom had crohn's disease and a mother of a child who has a high risk of developing an autoimmune disorder. What makes female with crohn's at a high chance of fertility issues? Is it just the disease that creates the issues or is it if the person has had surgery on a specific part of the digestive tract? I would love the feed back as I'm always willing to learn more about the disease that effected my mom so much, it's kind of my way of dealing with the loss of my mother.

How much of your colon do you have left, if you don't mind me asking? I have my sigmoid and rectum left, which are the two areas that are the worst for me, so I understand how frustrating it can be to still get flare-ups, despite having the ileostomy (which often causes its own issues).
Also, I struggle with bad hormonal issues too. It makes dealing with all of this so much harder. I hope you find a solution that brings you healing and health. 🤗

I am also having a horrible time around my period. My crohns symptoms are horrible, I’m moody, emotional. I was put on birth control that stops your periods but it made me so nauseated and just feel awful. So now I’m back to the drawing board. 😔 I hope it helps you.

I hope birth control helps in the short term anyway, especially with a wedding coming up you want to feel well.
If it helps I know lots of people who have been on and off birth control and they have had healthy pregnancies

    👋 hi Maggie 👋
New video!!! Yay!!!!! 🙌 🙌 Thought you were seeing the doctor because you were thinking about starting a family or you were already pregnant!! 😱
Think birth control is a gamble. Without getting to the root cause of why you're feeling that way and to prescribe birth control may mask whats really going on. Plus, when you come off of it, you don't know how your body is going to respond, especially if its not the right treatment. Then you'll be back at square one. It's good that they did transvaginal ultrasound so your doctor could see anything abnormal. Did they do what's known as a HORMONE PANNEL?? Or is your doctor looking for one specific thing in the bloodwork? With a HORMONE PANNEL, it can help determine what hormone is doing what or making more or less in your body. This gives your doctor a better way to figure out how to treat you. Hang in there, has to be frustrating but keep pressing onward!! You got this!!!
    🌼hope you're having an amazing day🌼

For male U/C patients who are using salasulfazin prescription, a major side effect of the drug is decreased sperm count sufficient enough to decreased probability of couples achieving pregnancy. If possible, discontinuation temporary of its use will be enough to restore fertility.

Did they give any answers in regard to what happens when you come off birth control? Obviously the symptoms will come back and then you'll probably be trying to get pregnant. Doesn't seem like the best time to go through all those symptoms again. I'm just frustrated for you and with you.

Hey, hang in there. Birth control is a disappointing answer. Have you possibly tried finding a reputable Naturopath Doctor? Sometimes they can help those kinds of things with diet and supplements. If you can conquer the life adjustments of having an ostomy and crohns you can definitely see this through, no matter what it looks like. Best of luck and thank you for all the videos you post. They have helped me a lot. Hope this little message encourages you the same way you've been able to encourage me.

Can I have a baby with an ostomy

    • @amandalang5772

Unless a procedure was performed near the reproductive organs in a male, men should be fine. For women, every body is different. There are different things to think about when it comes to being able to conceive. Scar tissue build up, the risk of the woman’s life depending on her state of health, and possible IBD unrelated complications. My husband and I have been trying for over 2 years to get pregnant and no luck. I’ve had 4 abdominal surgeries and I have a permanent ileostomy bag. That doesn’t mean I can’t get pregnant but it could be scar tissue around my reproductive system and restricting. I could have other issues. Every person is different because every persons body reacts differently.
With all that being said, it’s not impossible. It can come with higher risks
