My step grandparents had a radio very similar to that, which I spent many hours listening to as we sat on the old balcony by the river. Thanks again for the videos. :)
This reminds me of an old Truetone radio I worked on . I started without first taking pictures of the board and had no schematics for it . Wires started breaking from the solder joints . Had no idea where they went . I finally just gave up and saved it for old times sake . I keep a camera on the bench just because of this .I enjoy your videos and look forward to new videos .
Hi! Big fan here, love your commentary in an accent like mine. Don’t care much for the record players, just not my cup of tea. Nice to see you working on a radio again, those are my favorites.
I've seen that multiband radio sold under two or three other brands. I had a Global branded one. Eventually got rid of it when the tuning cap flaked out (not even control cleaner did much of anything).
Nice classic radio, no doubt. Tuning around 145 or so in the AIR/PB band one could probably pick up some local 2-meter ham radio operators, the 2-meter ham band being 144 to 148 mHz. Thanks for repairing and sharing rtvpn.
2-meters is fine if you want to listen to local talk about their feefee's and health problems. HF is where it's at for ham radio. The railroads operate between 160 and 162ish MHz since he is close by a rail line and NOAA is on one of 7 channels in the 162.4 - 162.55 range
It's not bothering anyone. It's been in there for 70 plus years. It's a fine looking radio though. It's got great styling and I love the push-button thing. That era loved their push-buttons. A different channel I subscribe to just rebuilt an Edsel push-button steering column today (well, the video was uploaded today)
In RF circuits, especially high frequency FM circuits, component positioning the spacing between coil turns is often very critical; so, the pour wax all over everything to keep the parts from shifting during transit.
Cool radio, but what a downer that little 3" speaker is. The size of the front grille and cabinet make it seem like there's a 4" or larger driver in there.
I remember my.grandma had this radio on her desk, and my dad had a ge super radio in the workshop and as far as I know he still has that and it still works
Why not just cut the transistor out from the top and leave the legs and just solder a new one to the old legs? That will completely negate all the wax and junk on the back of the circuit board. Those old capacitors are going to end up peeing all over the board, especially ones that already have physical damage. They'll completely destroy the board. I really like the old solid state discrete component tuners.
Good work my eyesight is pretty good but I also find it difficult to work on stuff like this. These radios were just tossed away when they quit working.
I remember those. I personally had a Gran Prix 5 band radio as a kid and teen. It was tall and not so wide. It had a "charge" switch with a red light. Funny, you can't recharge Zinc Carbon or Alkaline batteries. The instructions never said anything about using ni-cads.
5:04 I totally agree with you on this! Today's music ain't got the same soul, give me that old time rock and roll! (And country too!) Radio has really gone in the dumper. 🚽
I agree too, in my area near Chattanooga, we do get our fair share of undesirable noise on the radio, like mumble rap, whiny beating a dead horse sports and football talk, electronic house/cylon music, political propaganda spew, also know as the sorry shape our mainstream media is in nowadays, and for profit religious preaching, although on the other hand, we do have some decent oldies country, and 70's/80's stations in the area, we also have at least two Spanish/Latin stations, and one or two classical stations, being just down the road from Nashville, we can also pick up WSM too.
was wondering if you had a ctc146LA Chassis. i just got an rca tv that was my grandmom's and it seems that the tuner is bad on it it will lock into the ch. then go out of tune. if i flip the ch. 3/4 switch on the back of the to ch 4 vcr it will work while the tv is on ch 3 but there is no sound. but it does have sound on unused channel. let me know thanks
I know the chassis that you're talking about; but, I have not had anything like that in years. I agree to check the soldering on the tuner pins and to pop off the tuner cover and look for any bad connections inside the tuner.
Hey, I like this thing, my grandmother had one on her desk for decades and she glued a little plastic frog to it, I have no clue what ever happened to it. She plugged it into the wall. I think it got thrown out.
I really like 👍 that. Great 👍 circuitry. I really liked 👍 the sound quality of early model radios. At least, this radio 📻 is a station 🚉 magnet 🧲. Your friend, Jeff.
Shango066 sometimes tinkers with Cold War-era Russian radios. Any plans on doing the same or do you consider them as rotten as anything made with "Chinesium"? 🇨🇳
I Ordered My Glucofort April 11th & They Told Me It Would Arive April 18 Then They Told Me It Would Arive April 26th Geuss What It Came This Afternoon.
The package from Shango066 has arrived and you'll see a video in the not too distant future.
"...we can't let Shango have all the fun with a transistor radio..."

That needle thing is absolutely ridiculous.

Those little plastic encased tuning capacitors are bad about flaking out and there is not a whole lot you can do for them.

In that Meteor radio, is that a giant piece of asbestos dividing the chassis up? OMG

I like this stuff! Great videos.
Be well!
Great video as always! A question: Why do they put wax on some radio circuit boards? Is it necessary? Thank you.
In RF circuits, especially high frequency FM circuits, component positioning the spacing between coil turns is often very critical; so, the pour wax all over everything to keep the parts from shifting during transit.
Great repair
Cool radio, but what a downer that little 3" speaker is. The size of the front grille and cabinet make it seem like there's a 4" or larger driver in there.
I’ve seen a blob of wax on the board which is on my 1970’s RCA portable radio. I couldn’t get the wax remove and clean the board.
I remember my.grandma had this radio on her desk, and my dad had a ge super radio in the workshop and as far as I know he still has that and it still works
as cheaply as the electro brand radio was built i still bet its built better then to days huge off brand market radios you see every place

It works better than it did at the start of the video, so that's a win, Bryan. 👍
Somebody was in there before. Can see some post 80's caps in there.
Thats a cool radio👍💯
Ah yes, on shortwave the ever present Overcomer. Despite the fact that he's been dead since the spring.

Hi, I was given your name for a Zenith repair, how can I get in touch with you? Thank you..

May be solder joints on board and possibly under the shield on the tuner...

@@radiotvphononut ok thanks for letting me know i will look at it and try to fix it

Genuine simulated leather case.

And here we have
Hey I had one of those. They weren't that great when new.

o👍k👍 sounds🗣 good💯!
I get why they do it but hate dealing with glue and wax on electronics. Always a mess
👍✌️👋
Electro brand!
Those Vintage Radios Make Great Bluetooth Speakers. Wich Is Better
Cause There's No Comershals
Like Spotify & Pandora Have.
I know Shango would have fixed it or blown it up

I have one Russian radio and a tube-type Russian record player from the late '70's. One day, I'll do a video on them.
I Ordered My Glucofort April 11th
