It is always educational to watch & listen to Roger & James, their insights blend into a way of discussing filmmaking that can be casual, yet profound with lessons & production experiences. Thank you for sharing Team Deakins.
Film enjoyer here, reassured to hear Roger sounding underwhelmed by anamorphic (I would love to have heard more about this rationale). For me, I dislike the fish bowling effect bending straight lines towards the frame edges (this feels suffocating, I feel trapped like I'm in a submarine), the over-the-top lens flares (distracting, usually too dominant), the margarine-smeared-looking out of focus areas (looks so cheap, not classy) and the oval bokeh (actually, this ins't so awful, but nor pleasant). For me, this was such a backwards step by the film making industry! Grrr. Anyway, great to be reminded to check out more of Andrey Zvyagintsev's films - Leviathan was great! Thanks for everything you're doing TD :)
@@teamdeakinsRealYou bet! Both have been tracked down and ordered as used blu rays - Elena was particularly hard to find. Thanks again for this channel TD, I'm an amateur still photographer, and the DP episodes are especially insightful :)

Is this OLD?
It is from a while ago but I (James) was sent it just recently. Sometimes it takes a while for me to get the video!
Really good chat appalling sound quality! Come on NFTS! Fix up! 🔊
What an uncomfortable way to introduce the two of you.
Happy Birthday Roger!
