The part where the Gunblade comes down gives me goosebumps every time… The visuals, the singing becoming more hurried like the choir is trying to create a sense of urgency in the vocals as this spinning blade comes down and the crescendo builds up and then THWACK the blade smacks down and the entire orchestra stops like it’s struck dead and only a thunder crack can heard and a spooky face washes over the image. That’s a crazy start
@@FF-Gamr on one hand it’s wierd that it’s an unskippable cut scene… but on the other hand it’s like skipping the national anthem? Like….??? Why? You philistinical heathen! Unpatriotic swine! Salute to Nobuo Uematsu! DO IT! now disembowel yourself for trying to skip it. SEPPUKU!
ffxiii and ffviii still has special place in my heart i could say ffxii too since it was first ff i played..but something about the world design in ffxiii and ffviii attract me more and characters and story.
That's what's great about FF - everyone has their own reasons for which one(s) are their favourite games in the series, and those reasons are as good as any other.
I played a lot of final fantasies to know that the opening cinematic/cutscene is the start of the story...... Except ff8 which somehow showed a montage of events that would happen throughout the story, intertwined with squall and seifer's duel. My theory is that the opening cinematic is the actual time compression happening right at the start of the story. The game started during the time compression (aka the ending), then showed us the events that led to this ending, like a loop.
That's an interesting view - I hadn't considered that it could be a literal representation of time compression in that way, similar to the scenes shown in the game's ending
Spent countless hours play FF7 and FF8 when it came out. Watched the FF8 intro even before it came out and it is one of the best. That intro along with FFX intro are some of my favorites.
I feel like the first time I saw it was on a demo disc, but tbh I might be misrembering that. Either way, I've never got bored of watching it since then!
I liked it since I saw it at a video game event where they were showing some more on video. I had only seen the game in magazines and nothing more. Then I forgot the intro and when I played it I remembered that I had seen it in that place I went to. About the prologue at the beginning I didn't like it but then I fell in love with it because of the music, the trumpet is awesome.
The PS1 era of FF has yet to be matched in storytelling quality, in my opinion. This video is a great example that shows how much care went into introducing us to FF8s world. The opening cutscene draws us in. It creates mystery and builds anticipation. I would say 7 and 9 do the same, it's just that 8 did it on another level. It also helps that it has a kick ass song.
Im pleanantly suprised to see new creators make interesting videos on games/topics I'm very familiar with. Also, I never thought about the spinning gunblade possibly represting time moving forward, although that could be a stretch, almost everything in this game could seem like a stretch until its either proven true or false, and even then its like ''whatever, I don't even know anymore''!
Yeah I know what you mean, there's every chance it is just coincidental. Then again, it's also interesting to think about things that the devs end up including without even realising it, because they're so familiar with the game's themes. I suppose when 'time' itself is a central theme it's possible to read into a lot of things! 😅 thanks for watching too!
I still own the original ps1 disks of this game and i have the remastered version that i actually play. The disks are still in perfect playable condition and i keep them for sentimental reasons. Same with ff7.
As a 10 year kid when this came out, this is the opening that left my jaw opened when I saw my friend played.. then I begged my parents to buy me a PS1... at that time, no other games has this level of graphic and cinematic.. and until now Im still an FF and jrpg fan.. Rinoa was my first fictional crush.. I also like Squall character alot, I guess hes still my no 1 fave FF char for many reasons
I get why the junction system gets so many complaints. It's really convoluted for new players. I have a better grasp these days, but man I used a guide to understand it back in the day.
Oh yeah, I didn't really have a clue what I was doing when I first played the game. I'm surprised I even made it to the final battle on my first playthrough 😅 but when you do learn how it works, I do appreciate the fact that they tried something different with the junction system too
When I played it I didn't have a guide, so I had to experiment on my own, but the game also teaches you some things in the SeeD exams. I think when you have time to learn by playing the game it's pretty cool. And when I finished the game I did read a guide thanks to internet, but it only helped me find other GFs like Bahamut.
@@FF-Gamr I feel you. And I actually do. I got like 10 Games from my childhood like Terranigma, Secret of Evermore or the "OG" Final Fantasy from the east Mystic Quest. Every few years I get one of those and replay it. But more casually and not the "100%" runs I did back then. :)
@@jeffvincent6690 I really loved the medival feeling of that part. Compare this to the other much much more futuristic games. Yea you had Cids airships but even those were more steam punk than really sci-fy. This made the game great to me.
🤔🤔🤔 ff8... If memory serves me right... That opening scene is quite annoying... Cause you can't skip it and if it somehow hangs... You can't start the game.... "Only on new game" 😅😅😅
That just reminded me, my very first copy of the game sadly ended up quite scratched on one of the discs, and would sometimes get stuck when the FMVs came on 😅
Does Final Fantasy VIII have the best intro/opening in the series?
Yes
Absolutely!
Yes! X is close second

That's why I never get tired of watching this opening, or listening to Liberi Fatali. It's a work of art!

100%.. played this since its release and still play it in 2024 👌

Yeah I always liked that piece of music too. Then again pretty much the whole OST is great 😁

Imagine this as a remake and in full HD MOVIE 😍
I'd love to see it!

THis intro and the MGS2 intro are the best in gaming.
MGS2's intro is a work of art as well, that's true - well that whole game is!
Onimusha 3 says hello.
You better add the intro to Ninja Gaiden to that list!

Nice! Sadly I wasn't so careful with my original versions when I was younger, but very glad to still have them of course
Remember getting the FF8 demo back in the day. Brilliant.
The video that convinced me to subscribe 👌🏻
Thank you, very much appreciated! 😁

You should check out the video of Spoonys take on this scene. Extremely accurate and aged like fine wine.
Sure, if you're 12.

This was my first video game ever. I re did the fire cavern a bunch of times because my parents and I didn't know I needed a memory card 😂
after this fatastic intro, I had such high expections for the opening of FF9 ... and was bitterly disapointed :(
It is certainly different, but then FF9 really went in a different direction compared to FF7 and FF8 in a lot of ways. Still love the game though 😊
I think FF8 also had the best ending sequence of the series
The part when Squall is wandering alone and seems to have lost everything is really quite terrifying...
Final Fantasy 7 - 10 were all just great games feeling somewhat similar but also extremely different.
Definitely, I could happily replay them all on repeat even after all these years!

@VorjuMeidear I honestly never finished FF9, I was that bored. Good vid though.
the best OST is Eyes on Me ! if ever this game will be remake, please oh please! DO NOT change the song, or at least hire the same Singer Faye Wong.
100%, it's a great song - I can't imagine the game without it!
