This song is becoming more and more relevant each year, each month and each day. I heard this song for the first time back in 2014 when Skillet were giving a concert in my city. My friend invited me to join her and we went to this concert together. I fell in love with the band and was listening to it since. And yeah, back then this song was just some call to the society or whatever, but now… COVID and related protests, BLM protests, Belarusian protests, Iranian protests, war in Ukraine, war in Israel and Gaza, earthquake in Turkey, earthquake and flood in Morocco, wars in Africa, protests in France, everything that’s happening in Russia, etc… this is honestly just scary. World is going crazy

But for Skillet I make a very big exception because, unlike a lot of other Christian rock bands, they don't specifically say 'God' and 'Jesus' in every other verse. So its left to the listener to interpret their music how they see fit - which expands the amount of people who can really enjoy this music, regardless of what you believe in - Christian, Muslim, Jewish, Atheist, Hindu, or whatever else. That's why Skillet, despite how we may disagree in some ways when it comes to religion... will always be my #1 favorite rock band.
IDK. I’m not big on “God or Girlfriend” songs. I feel like it kind of limits creativity when an artist feels like he/she has to cast as wide of a net as possible. I liked it when I was a kid because we were only allowed to listen to Christian music, and this was different, but now that I have a lot of choices open to me, I only return sometimes for nostalgia.
