Lyrics
They stack the bodies a thousand high
Upon a monument to touch the sky
They crown the peaks so far estranged
But down in the dirt, nothin' has changed
Nothin' has changed, nothin' has changed
Nothin' has changed, nothin' has changed
Nothin'
Nothin'
The time has come, there's no escape
The time has come, there's no escape, there's no escape
Into the rabble, the panic seeps
One target hits us, another weeps
They scale the walls, their mind's deranged
But down in the dirt, nothin' has changed
Nothin' has changed, nothin' has changed
Nothin' has changed, nothin' has changed
Nothin'
Not a thing
The time has come, there's no escape
Time has come, there's no escape, there's no escape

Epitaph Records is an artist-first indie label founded in Los Angeles by Bad Religion guitarist, Brett Gurewitz. Early releases from a variety of punk heavyweights helped launch the 90s punk explosion. Along the way, Epitaph has grown and evolved creatively while sticking to its mission of helping real artists make great recordings on their own terms.

I saw them in Belgium in '97. I wonder if they remember me in the crowd I was the one in the jeans.
I think I remember you there!
You had that haircut, right?
Patrick Hogan Nah I was due for one but I didn't have one then sry
***** They were on Groezrock last weekend and they were amazing
***** hahah
Oh yeah you, that guy. I was there clapping along out of time, I think I was the only one doing it
Electric ⚡⚡⚡
It's almost like this song is about their own reunion. "The time has come. There's no escape."
I was thinking the same thing.
A you better come along or move because we're not stopping kind of thing.
Kevin Brunhober Dull? Did you entirely skip past The (International) Noise Conspiracy, and more recently INVSN?! Dull is definitely not a word I'd use to describe it!
But that's really just Denis, I can't speak for the rest of them.
Adia Shardae I think he meant less critically, financially, and publicly successful.
Patrick Hogan I guess. I always thought T(I)NC did pretty well in those departments, even if they never quite achieved the levels of fame that Refused did.
Adia Shardae I dunno. I'm just speculating.
i cry for this return... from South Italy. I love Refused!!!
17 years later...what looks to be a damn good album. I'm getting old ahah
Can't wait!
I wonder how many kids will think they're a new band ripping off other bands.
AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
holy fucking shit
temazo brutal :D
Is this just essentially the riff from Tool's song "Schism"??!
Refused sounds like Tool. The new video doesn't stop this comparison either.
see you then Refused. What the fuck...
Samurai brought me here. I'm not disappointed.
thanks to CPR for bringing this band up, it was long forgotten ffs... im fckin down on my knees now ;)
Refused aren't fucking dead!
Seaman Sadbear Would you say that they... refused to die?
lmao i said the same thing upon hearing the opening 10 seconds.
Anders Öhlund But they'd Rather Be Dead!
just came in my shorts, damn...best hardcore band ever
Safe to say they...refused to die?
Didn't see this comeback coming!
theneedledrop Shapethony of Punk to Cometano.
***** Yes him again. It's the friggin Needledrop.
theneedledrop Thanks for your sharing, pal!
theneedledrop Does anyone else ever hear a great song, then go to the comments section to see what other people think only to see Anthony Fantano? Then suddenly you're cringing because you can only imagine the incredibly stupid things he's going to say about it?
VashD15 negative nancy
David Sandström vs Darude Sandstorm
Ilham Maulana Died.
Ilham Maulana Thank You for this
Ilham Maulana Hahahahahahahahahahahahaha
Ilham Maulana Valvontakomissio, the band had both Mika Karppinen and Kimmo Parkkinen
Ilham Maulana I was going to say "UP" already, but we're on youtube
This is my first time listening Refused. GODDAMN!
Ilham Maulana welcome to the show there amazing
Ilham Maulana Listen to The Shape of Punk to Come, you won't regret it
Ilham Maulana ... man you got some catching up to do. Enjoy the ride.
BLFilms also I'd recommend "songs to flame the fans of discontent" and the song "Circle pit".
Ilham Maulana Welcome to the party pal. It only gets better from here!
Yo Chippin In is gonna be sick if ya’ll involve with Cyberpunk?
"We've teamed up with Refused to bring the iconic band Samurai to life"
- a Cyberpunk 2077 video description
@@Zen-rw2fz nah bro it's keanu reeves singing the songs. bet
I doubt Refused will see this it it would be so fucking awesome if they added Samurai shirts and hoodies to their store.
Could just buy a samurai patch and put it on your clothing
Hard to believe Shellback...Maroon 5, Britney Spears, Taylor Swift SHELLBACK had a hand in producing this.
I know him from metal band Blinded Colony
Holy shit?!?! NEW REFUSED!?
Am I fucking dreaming???
They stack the bodies a thousand high

According to Corey Taylor, this is the best song he's ever heard in this decade. And I don't disagree
That’s how I found out about this song
Where does he mention that?
@@Ahmed-zv5gz i don't remember anymore, it was an article I read in december 2019
Honestly these guys are keeping rock alive. It's unfortunate more people don't know about them
not a big slipknot fan but hell yes. refused is my favorite band. caught the reunion in 2012 and it was the best concert i have ever seen in my life. when they released this i wasn't sure how i felt about it, but hearing it now i fully agree. this shit is punk as fuck, and was original as fuck just like the shape of punk to come. good for them that they didn't just rehash that album. they truly stepped in to something different. and it has aged extremely well.
Looks like the boys in Refused have been listening to some Tool.. Fucking stoked
joe izzo 46 and 2 right? That's what I thought of with the riff...it's not the same, just really familiar. Agree?
joe izzo Though, unlike Tool, They are releasing an album. haha
joe izzo It personally reminded me of something by Deftones, not any particular song, but now I hear to the semblance to 42 & 6.
joe izzo I was holding my baseball bat in case someone would say that.
+joe izzo. Tool...? What...?
Someone show this to Greg Ginn and tell him THIS is how you make a reunion record.
Tell Greg Ginn to stop abusing his family.
Tell Greg Ginn his shoes never match his shirts.
Philip Whitehead Tell Greg Ginn his shoelaces are still not edible, even when boiled.
Yea, but this single isnt that good either. I mean, its worlds better than that Black Flag (Reunion) album...i feel bad for Ron Reyes...:p
johnnyscifi Man, way to destroy the thread.
NFS 2015 bitchesss !!!!!
I AM 18 AGAIN !!! That fuckin' drummer kills it !
Lo Mandel L 0 L ...
Lo Mandel hahahahaha
Lo Mandel Im 18 right now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Refused always has great drums!
You should look up some info on the drums from The Shape of Punk to Come. All drum sounds were sampled and then programed rather than played live. And it soooo worked.
Is that Johnny Silverhand from popular 2023 band Samurai

EpitaphRecords Shut up and take my fucking money!
EpitaphRecords Give me the record! Give me the godamn record!
I put this song in a literature project and got a 10!
Thank Refused!
Corey Taylor brought me here. Lovin it.
Same!
So do I 😊
Same
Lol yep and he did not disappoint
Well, clown brought me here... I watched slipknots New video pollution.... And that led me here... :)
Digging this *new noise* I'm hearing
this sounds like Foo Fighter's cooler older brother if that makes sense
thehousemaderobot Yeah, I thought it opened like Refused and then went full Foo Fighters.
thehousemaderobot Good analogy! It's so true!
***** So fucking true.
thehousemaderobot Jesus… you really are 18. Foo Fighters are vaginal mesh compared to this band. Not even close man. Not even close.
bnx2011 They're different bands so comparing is stupid.
Thank you Corey Taylor for introducing me to this band.
I can't believe I have never heard these guys before.
I'm definitely now a fan of this band!
"The Shape of Punk To Come" came out the year I graduated and that shit is still a fucking masterpiece 20 years later.
welcome aboard
Can't wait for Chippin' in
Refused is one of the greatest bands of all time they shaped punk into a beautiful masterpiece.
need for speed guys!!
When ths corps havent changed after being dead for 50 years
Just saw these guys with Deftones, fucking UNREAL show.
Coney Island? Heck yeah \m/
"Need For Speed brought me here" anyone? No? Ok.
Yeah. I'm probably going to be listening to this on repeat until June 30. :)
Erline Andrews already on listen #5
Seriously, its so fucking crazy they came back together and made even more new music.
Bless Refused for seriously thinking far ahead when it has come to punkrock.
Hearing this band for the first time in mid of 2019 shows me once again how limited my horizon was, although I consider myself a music/rock addict and have a CD collection in the hundreds at home... how could I miss stuff like this?!?
Thanks to Rou Reynolds of Enter Shikari to recommend them in his Kerrang! interview.
It still hasn't sunk in with me yet that Refused have gotten back together and are bringing out a new album.
has it sunk in by now ?
Luke Brooker yeah it sunk in shame the album is kinda lame
I saw these magnificent bastards in Barcelona '12... Best fucking gig of my life!!!
REFUSED aren't fucking dead!!!
Anytime I lose one of my earbuds, I play this song full blast while it's connected and retrace my steps. Works every time 👍
I love Refused, always. That being said, this strangely has a Mike Patton and almost like progressive feel...so fucking cool :))))))
What this song about please ?
Society is like a pyramid, if you´re at the bottom of it you´ll know. Just the song writer knows what the lyrics about... and a few more but i´m not one of them.
I think it has to do with people dying while building the stadiums for the World Cup in Qatar.
I'll be blaring this during the demise of America
Fuck it, only one chance for the new Refused after this song. There's some serious legacy behind this fucking band after all.
Yes! Somehow I knew this was going to happen. Pretty solid song, is it just me or does the singer sound a bit American now? I kinda miss the accent.
Corey Taylor's favorite song
I had no idea this was happening and now I want it to be June 30th already. HYPE.
#refused #welcomeback
Oh yeah uh huh what what
My body went from Unaware to So Ready before I even heard the track.
Wesley Shark I know. With INVSN going on, I had no idea Denis was even planning a new Refused record. Definitely still nothing like them out there. Welcome back indeed!
The drums in this tune are off the charts. This song is a tour de force
proggy rock played by punk rock band - i think its somethng with this Sweden city - Umeo (just recall another band playing in totally fucked up time signatures)
so im guessing i came from need for speed 2015 right? yeah i think so. anyway great song
i was wondering when nu metal would make a come back. lol thanks for the morning laugh.
But what does Corey Taylor think?
Refused es la mera verga...
no one likes admitting it (to the point where Im sure some people will hate me for saying it) but we tend to build very strong non-objective emotional biases towards music. the fact that so many people feel the need to say nothing else other than "not as good as the shape of punk to come" is rather indicative of this. As someone who had (unfortunately) very little experience with the band before this album i am absolutely floored by it AND their previous material.
+Michael Goelz this is actually on par with the shape of punk to come
+Zyraxes Rex The new album is less visceral, but much more refined. It feels more "matured", compared to the teenage angst of The Shape of Punk to Come.
As a person that grew up with Refused in the '90s in northern Sweden and saw them live several times before they broke up, in '98 I am saddened that this happened. This album is not swedish hardcore.I don't know what it is, but it is not swedish hardcore, that's for sure. I wish that they would just put down the guitar and drum sticks and do other projects, because this just ruins my childhood.
unfortunately people are stuck in the past. Imo this picks up where "shape" left off. Musically this is harder more progressive and absolutely on point with social evaluation. A more than worthy follow up.
+Travis Beyer I know you wrote this a couple months back but I couldn't agree more. I grew up with the shape of punk to come. this album is great. more mature and definitely more progressive. I can't stand people who cry about how this album isn't the shape of punk to come...NO SHIT IT'S NOT! it's 2016 and I'm happy for these guys.
This is exactly how bands should 'come back'. Fans don't give two flying fucks about anything but what made them love the band in the first place. Refused has always been an incredibly raw, powerful band with a message and they shouldn't stray from that. This isn't International Noise Conspiracy and it never will be. REFUSED IS FUCKING LIVING.
Need for Speed brought me here.
Obviously not as killer as their old stuff, but shit man, these guys are still slaying it. If the whole album is of this caliber, I'll drop the dough.
my god i never listened past the first album days of cds but im glad i just did
This song's influences and even the patterns of the video clip reminds me a lot of Tool...
Nowhere near tool stylistically but ok
Tool without an amazing drummer and average vocals...
Refused and tool came out at about the same time around the early 90's. They both probably pull from the same influences.
@@MrCashewkitty There's some exceptional drumming on "the shape of punk to come". Check out "worms of the senses" or "the deadly rhythm".
Two very different bands, but if you listen to Tool a little bit more and return to this tune. You will see how much Tool is there :) four years later and I still hear Tool there
Still one of the most ferocious riffs in rock.
It turns out they weren't fucking dead.
Am I the only one who gets a heavy foo fighters feel?? Fucking awesome tho
maybee it's the high expectations i have from this amazing band... but i really don't like this : (
Pietroarco Franchetti Well, they did leave with such a great album that it is hard to follow up on that (The Shape Of Punk To Come still ranks among my all-time favorites). This is not the same, feels...simpler? Then again, I like that they don't just do the same again :-) Let's see what the other songs will be like...
Homp Nomp it's a bit more discontent-sounding, but with the odd time signatures of shape
Homp Nomp I saw them live at groezerock one week ago and i still have goosebumps! what an amazing band live! perfect on every level tecnical and amazing showmanship... this is to date one of my favorite bands of all time
nowhere near as good as any song off of punk to come
Move on fam, this is not 1998
ArchiEduc PH you're right. shit was better back then
What exactly is the time signature of this song? I'm having a hard time working it out.
+hrosemd Same here, i hear many different signatures but mostly its in odd time. Not being able to count the shit making this song really fucking hard on the drums...
trying to follow those drums.. man, it's a mind fuck.. that beat is sick af
@Tobbe Häggberg Yes, I am a drummer. no band! my idols are Dave Weckl, Steve Gadd.
this music is Epic.
speed 1.25, enjoy
I'm on a Refused rabbit hole right now and oh my fuh
Get the Molotovs out kids. #fb
Refused are fucking alive
fucking perfect! sounds great. recorded and presented so well. cool guitar tones. bass tone goes in and out and has a nice rumble when present. snare drum has full fat attack. what a way to come back with this song and it looks to be track 1 off the album, kick ass great opener. and with producer Nick Launay you can't go wrong.
man this intro is so killer...its one of those things that makes you say why the hell didn't i think of that!? just picked up the guitar and figured it out in 5 seconds tho ;) so fun to play
Nice nu metal track, Refused.
"Rather be forgotten than remembered for giving in."
I guess they no longer "got a bone to pick with capitalism".
Sad.
Nothing has changed, nothing has still fucking changed.
Refused, so fuckin' great, amazing, Nothing has changed, NOTHING!
from the 1st riff, i knew it was SERIOUS
love this song, but more like *only riff lol
Bradley Atom
you can t read
Lets fucking go
FUCKING BRILLIANT
Refused should pay me royalties for using the visuals from my last acid trip
damn
NeedForSpeed2015
I love how the drums change up around 0:40 and become all distant.
ua-cam.com/video/hB5zOXanCSM/v-deo.html Girişi sanki Mehmet Erdem gibi gibi nin rock hali gibi değil mi :)
kick-ass song! \m/\m/ Here's a write-up I did about it: zumic.com/music-videos/172500/elektra-refused-youtube-official-music-video/
anyone getting tool vibes from this?
They are from the same town as Meshuggah, enoguh said.
Can't wait for June 30th!
bravo
OH.MY.GAWD. A new Refused song!! Wishes do come true! I'm presuming the thumbs down are for the awful video....cause if you're down voting this song then get back to your Beyonce or (insert whatever bland chart crap here) albums.
Listen Rock God, I know I haven't talked to you in awhile, and I'm sorry. Just you took Dimebag from us and you kept putting out Avenged Sevenfold records, and you even have us still suffering through Paul McCartney making music! After all that I kinda lost faith and I deeply apologize, but today I saw a new Refused song and I promise I believe in rock again and I'll never let my faith slip away like that. Thank you Rock God for keeping rock alive! Amen
hooooo shit!!! HOOOOOOOOOO SHIT!!! I typed in refused to listen to some classics and i found some new shit!!!! HOOOOOO SHIIIIITTTT SON!!
Well that was brutal, please call back the guitarist you kicked out of the band, you're starting to sound like Tool. I guess I should have never expected an album as good as T.S.O.P.T.C. Now I know its impossible, Refused can't even do it.
*SWEDEN*
Is it just me hearing something vaguely Soundgarden-on-steroids in the main riff? Not that it's copied or anything... but I can totally imagine a young Chris Cornell (circa Badmotorfinger) on top of it
Stara dobra szkoła punka. Mało kto już tak gra. Byle tak dalej. Świetny kawałek.
Wow! Just finished listening to the album and now I get to watch this amazing video. Fuck I love this band!
