Theres a whole lot of $$$ in this video for a $1000 to win 9 car Crate Late Model race. I'm not criticizing btw, I run a non wing sprint car in Indiana for $1200 to win, I'm just saying... Purses haven't gone up in 40 years but the cost of everything else has. If it wasn't so expensive I imagine there would be a bigger field than 9 cars.
You’re probably right about that. But on the other hand, there are tracks that run Crate Late Models for much less. It’s tough all around with the way costs have skyrocketed over the years.
I Live In Mercer County And Beckley Is Where We Go Up To Every Now And Then And Down To Wythe Raceway But Preferably Bulls Gap .. I Glad To See WVMS Is Opening Up Again And These HTF Guys Would Probably Like That Track Or Beckley With The Super

What’s the best way getting into dirt track racing? I would love to build a late model, and my goal is to, but I don’t think I’ll be ready to handle one.
Best way to get into racing is 1st get in the pits. Find a team that needs help or just stand and watch team at work. 2nd after a while of pit crewing and you see all the work done at the track. Join that or another team working on the car all week (multiple car teams or a torn up car or car's make for long week.) 3rd decide if you think it's a great idea to buy a truck, trailer, car, spare parts & tires, tools and most likely much more like welders & torches, port a power, & scales. Last decide if you want to make a SMALL Fortune at racing.... cause you will need to start with a BIG one first ! Even the best drivers never get rich dirt racing . We do it for the fun !!
Joel LaJuett thanks so much for the reply. Ever since I saw my first dirt race I’ve been hooked and instantly wanted to do it. I knew about the money thing, I just want to do it for fun. I have friends that have friends who race, so I could probably get started there.

Yes, the 604 engine is a sealed GM crate engine that we pretty much only run in the Crate Late Mode division. In the Super Late Model division you can pretty much run whatever engine you want, so the engines in those cars produce much more horsepower and are much, much more expensive than the 604 crate engine. Hope that answers your question. Thanks for watching!
Yeah, I believe the IMCA spec motors may be kind of in between crates and super motors as far as horsepower and cost. I could be wrong though. There are some IMCA mods in this area, but no late models.
As much as I grew up being a weekly racing fan, I'd think spacing out 10 races for a class over a season would help with the wear and tear as well as costs. Allow you to take a few weeks off here and there to regroup.

What do the 604 motors cost and how many nights can you get out of one
rickey maloy most tracks require you to buy the motor from a certain dealership. You can get about half a season.
You’re looking at about $6000 for a new 604 engine. You can add $2000 or so more for what you’ll need to bolt on to the engine (carburetor, headers, etc.).

Hunt the Front yeah I was just curious to what you ran. I grew up around super late models. My dad raced MLRA and now the series named MBSLMR.
