Egyptian Mau cats are known to be fairly vocal and have a chatty personality. They can make a variety of sounds, including chirping, chortling, trilling, and chatting, in a conversational way when interacting with their favorite people. Some even describe their vocalizations as musical. Egyptian Maus may also vocalize their pleasure with a series of chirps when they're affectionate and seeking lap time or a ride on your shoulders.

Mine actually makes a sound I've never heard before. When she is really digging petting or cuddles, she does what we refer to as "the squeaky wheel" along with a major purr. Too cute but I've never heard any other cat do it.

My mom's senior cat (1/2 Burma, 1/2 Housecat) has always been very vocal. We'll be talking; just meowing and "yeahing" all day long 😂 She gets overstimulated by touch very easily so after some minutes of cuddling, she'll sit down next to us and talk softly while purring. If we answer in the same tone (just short sentences like "yeah" "my pretty kitty" "I love you") she'll start mimicking the tone of our voices while soft blinking or closing her eyes, and she can basically fall asleep this way. 🥹🥰❤️ She also let's us know before using the bathroom 😅 (She's fine and has been checked by multiple vets over the years, but they all say she's just a vocal cat. 😅❤️ And she's perfect just the way she is 🥰❤️)

Multiple cat veteran here. I find that if you have a social household with people coming and going, your cat will quickly adjust, if you start him young and if he's allowed to approach newcomers on his own terms. After a certain point, he'll be totally fine with new people.

I have a 12-year-old orange rescue cat who came to me when he was 7. I've also had to move houses a couple of times over the past five years. He's always wanted to explore the entirety of a new place right away instead of staying in one room. In terms of toys, if you don't already have one, I'd really recommend a fishing rod type toy with feathers on the end. You can keep it moving to hold his interest, it brings vertical space into play, and it's a bonding thing too because it involves you in the play much more, which he'll love you for. It might even help wear him out before bed lol

I have a 13-year-old ginger cat. Had him since he was 8 weeks old. He screams at night. He always has. The screaming may not ever completely stop. Cats don’t typically understand the “if you do this, this will happen,” set of discipline.

My Lacey, who was a grey longhair, was a nighttime warbler. I'd just answer her, and she was fine for a while. So was my mom's siamese mix. She'd grab socks from the clothes basket and yowl through the house. If one of us called out for her to "drop the baby", she'd put the sock down and come find whoever said it.

@@RolyWestYTHe's beautiful Roly!! Congrats!! I rexcomend getting a Catit Pixie fountain, so easy to up keep and clean and gives them fresh water! I also really really suggest the luuup litter boxes they make changing the litter box SO easy!!
Ginger cats are so special, my boy Loki is a ginger and I love him obviously but I affectionately call him my demon child. He does the shouting thing. Everything's fine, food, water, litter, toys bur he just shouts for no reason. It's very annoying and frustrating but it's just part of what he does!!
To stop them from doing things you don't want tell them "no" and reward them with treats (and you can look into clicker training, that's helped me with Loki a bit!) With positive reinforcement. Same thing for scratching, praise him when he uses the posts, telling him no when he doesn't.
Also as far as letting you know about him being in pain cats are covert creatures, if something is wrong or they are hurt they will hide it, and hide literally. They will hide under furniture or in dark, quiet and cool spaces so just be aware and keep that in mind!
He also needs you to show him how his toys work and how to play, those are learned behaviours built off of instinct.
Is his name from Globe Corps from the Simpsons?
Hope you and Globie have many happy years together!! They are such blessings and make life so much better!

After ten years, my Bengal still does the night time wail of "I want to go to bed but I MUST have a human with me!" and he likes to announce that he needs to use the litter box, has lost a toy under the sofa, wants a fuss or is just very excited. Visitors always think he's incredibly distressed but it's just his way of telling me what he's doing, minute to minute. I'm sure that Globex will train you in no time at all and I'm glad he's settling in so well.

the thing about keeping a new cat in one room is less of a rule & more of a cautionary starting point. globex seems extremely curious which is much better than being super timid. seems like such a character.
when it comes to his meowing fits, i recommend playing with him near to bedtime in order to tire him out because it seems like pent up energy. maybe try puzzle treat toys as well & experiment with toys. my cats really love plastic spring toys!

I will say you might have some unique difficulties only because he didn't have a litter. Kittens learn how to play and behave with wrestling with each other and mom stepping in when nessicary. You might have better luck him playing with a stuffed animal that you "wrestle" him with😊 but the room thing has always depended on the cat for us. We let them explore wherever they felt comfortable, and I think the single room is more for a multi-pet household. You're doing great, Roly!

BTW, Roly: You've done well with the introduction to your home.
It's normal for cats to decide when they're ready to explore more of a new home. Cats are highly individualistic, and every cat is different.
Oh, and it's time to learn The Sideways Shimmy, girl! It's how you get through a door while keeping it as closed as possible to keep the cat inside.
One thing you can do to keep him off of the counters is to put aluminum foil down on it. Cats don't like the crinkle of it.
A tip that I can give you: cats scratch for 2 reasons. One is to break off the claw sheaths (which is how the claws get sharp - they grow sharp, and the outer layer falls off). The other reason is to scent-mark. Cats have scent glands in their paws, so they'll claw things to mark them as their own. You just want to make it clear to him, "No, _my_ sofa!" … and make sure that he has things that he _can_ claim as his own.
Play with his paws. Learn how to make his claws extend. Get him used to you doing that. You'll then be able to trim his claws with a clipper. (But watch a video, you only want to clip off the transparent tip of the claw, or it'll bleed.) It's not as difficult as it sounds, and there are clear trimmers for cats that have backstops. The main thing, though, is getting your cat used to having his feet toyed with, and being held still.

She's fine now at night, has her toys, she can go anywhere in the house except for my gaming room. Seeing how far Globex has come in a short amount of time, he will get adjusted pretty fast. Like my feline, he is not playing YET !!! I thought my cat didn't know how to play and had a convo with my wife about it, and i cried. Next day, my wife came to me and said: "IT HAPPENED," I said what happened? SHE PLAYED. So Globex too will get to it when he has enough confidence and feels relaxed enough.

If he's still a baby, in my experience, they shed a lot less when they're little. Once he's fully grown, and has his first spring/summer he WILL shed more.
Maus are quite a vocal breed, but he's obviously still getting used to where he is, where you are and whats normal. With my last few cats, my husband and I referred to a specific "location meow" that our cats did that was their way of saying "WHERE ARE YOOOOOU?" You'll get used to each other, and soon you will speak Globex, and be one of the Globex corporation ;)
There's a lot of his behaviour I can explain to you if you want (i'm not a cat behaviourist, but I've read a LOT about it, and tbh I'd love to be one!) but I'm confident you'll actually work each other out in time. If there's anything that does worry you, I can try and help, because most of this makes absolute sense to me from cat perspective :) He's absolutely beautiful

this is actually such an important comment! people often tend to extrapolate their own experiences with their own cats and present it as some sort of rule, but as a lifelong catowner, no two cats i've had are the same and they have vastly different personalities, behaviours, habits, urges and instincts.
so i would generally warn against taking statements like "yes, the cat is doing X because of Y" with a grain of salt. They may be, but they may be doing it for a variety of other reasons,
in any case this is one lucky kitty that found a great dad! congrats to both roly and globex 🥰🥰

@@user-xr9kj6by3u Absolutely! My husband and I volunteered at our local animal shelter for years, and every cat is an individual.

I think the one room thing is more to give a cat time to get used to scents etc and not overwhelm them, but depending on the cat they can want to just explore. I've met a cat like this (also an orange boy) who also just wanted to be out and exploring all the time, so it's not just you.

I also love that you make sure to have researched and prepared the home for him.
I love that you do the scent trick as well since he is a rescue.
Also, his breed is actually known for being pretty vocal, though he will calm down a little after getting settled.
I know a lot (maybe too much) about cats since I have been interested in reading about cats since I was 6 and started knowing how to read better and I’m just watching this and noticing all the kinds of things that you’re doing so amazingly.
From giving him space, talking to him and with a low voice, letting him come to you rather than forcing yourself onto him.
He definitely senses your intentions and feelings, he senses that you are a good person that just wants to love him and give him the best life ever.
I would suggest you get toys that move around on its own for him.

I affectionately call my calico my little foghorn because she's super vocal and LOUD, some cats might just be more vocal than others in general, or Globex could be conversing with the demons in the shadows. In either case, I wish you both the best bonding time! A counter tip, you might try lining counters with double-sided sticky tape, they dislike the sensation tugging on their beans so it may help as a deterrent. Also I've found that ping pong balls were so much better for my prey driven cat because they're extremely light and their momentum carries them further and attracts my cat to continue chasing and playing with them.

When we lived in an apartment, one of our cats would ALWAYS dart out into the hallway connecting all of the apartments. He was certain we were keeping him locked out of the rest of the house and he WAS going to find a way to explore it. Now that we live in a house, we thankfully don't have the problem with exterior doors (outside bad) but the easiest way to offend him is to close any door.
He also cries/screams when he's alone, or thinks he's alone. You can tell when it's happened if everybody was out because he usually brings his favorite toy to the middle of the house when he does it.

I've owned cats for a very long time, and I can say that one thing he's doing with his noisemaking early on in his re-homing is establishing territory. He's letting everyone know he's there and he's looking for responses from rivals. Once he feels secure that this area belongs to him, he should calm down with all the vocalising.
