  • Cammus C5 direct drive wheel Durability test - in this video I take the new Cammus C5 direct drive wheelbase around the twisty track of Zandvort on 100% force feedback both in game and on the wheelbase to make the base clip and create a lot of heat for 1 whole hour to see if it can survive!

    Great video, thanks for the upload. I read that the external rotor design is more susceptible to heat problems compared to internal rotor design. I wonder if adding an external larger fan blowing at the back of the wheel base is useful.

      It would be but under normal use it doesn’t really get that hot, I’ve spent a whole day using it nearly non stop and heat wasn’t really an issue, it did not get hot to the touch just a little warm

      I would get a 120mm noctua fan and put behind the wheel, and connect to it to its own powersupply (like a cheap 12v psu). It will be silent, and have decent airflow. When watching the video, it sounds like it just heats up the material in the wheel more and more, since it does not have any cooling. (so in extreme case, the wheel will finally get almost to the same temperature as the electronics...) The interesting thing would be to know how hot the electronics that deliver the power to the motor gets.. its probably where you would want the cooling if you could chose.

      @@AndrewTSq It's not only about the electronics. The discussion is about whether the motor itself is getting hot and how much.

      @@ahmedabdo13 Judging by my other stepper motors (which this basicly is), Its usually when it goes over 100 degrees celsius that is considered too hot. But I think its more important to cool the electronics since they are not built to withstand those temps.

    I would suggest that you let it spin with wheelcheck program, for one hour. And keep an eye with the thermometer

    But in the software it says it can go to 85 celisus right ? So what is to high in your opinion ? Because I am currently running it on 100% in cammus software and 80% in game settings assetto corsa. I dont wanna lower it further.

    Yep. I turned down mine to 80% power and it just turned warm. 100% is not good for long session. Still, it is a lot better than my g29. Do you get loud vibrations when you lost control/spin your car in ACC?

    • @JasonStorm
      @JasonStorm  Рік тому

      I wouldn’t say loud, it does make a little noise maybe, might depend on wheel settings how loud it is in that scenario but I do have a little noise off track and in the gravel

    I ordered mine, hopping it's going to be a good upgrade from a Thrustmaster T-300. I have the Thrustmaster T-LCM pedals that I am going to run with the Cammus C5 base.

      I just ordered mine as I got a T300 also that is still in the return window. Pretty happy with the T300 so far, but this really seems too much of a good deal not to go for it. Can you let me know your initial thoughts when it arrives?

      @@liviujurj Just a heads up they are slow to ship. Put my order in on July 16, it has not shipped yet. Sent several emails finally go a response clairifiing it could take 10~20 (business days) before it ships.

      @@liviujurj Sent an Email Friday Aug 04 2023, they responded with in 2 hours and said they expect to ship it next week. I am very excited to try my new wheel. I also so have a fan mod that should bring the temps in line for around $ 20 . If you want I can update you on the success or failure of my fan mod if you wish. I generally game 1 - 2 times a week (great fun with my buddys) for 3-4 hours with 10 min breaks every hour. And I will be running it @ high settings. My goal is to reduce the temps by 10-15 degrees. Cheers Krusty

      @@krusty6381 Good to hear someone replied. Hopefully it will be with you soon and you'll get to enjoy it. I need to return my T300 in a few days, so am quite excited to get it haha.
      That sounds like a pretty good mod, let me know how it goes. I was thinking that if it will be running hot, I may attach a fan to the rig, but will wait and see. Now I need to see what pedals I'm going with
