Every now and then Kay gets a pretty brave idea when it comes to how he runs things. What was supposed to be a simple day of updating our Digico SD10 and SD5 consoles, turns into a possible huge paradigm shift for the company. Or....Is he just busting chops and having fun because it was April Fools day??? Only time will tell.

Wow, I never would have imagined those being that expensive. And I know things get pricy but that's like a Bentley price. That's luxury. And not needed. K's right. Those high end Yamahas are more than enough. He's very on point and focused and this is why he is the boss and is able to support his crew through these rough times. A lot of outfits didn't even try to keep their guys going during this pandemic. Big up's to K for riding this out with his crew like a pro. Already rolling with the punches and surviving.
Hate to say it but I do agree with K, for the amount of times the large format consoles go out it’s more cost effective to sub-hire them.

Desperate times call for desperate measures, however most sound hire company owners that I know even in desperate times are 'Pack-rats', but in a good way. Usually operating under the line of hey you never know...? These are most certainly desperate times. Best of luck with whatever decision is made. The industry will come back.

Speaking of selling consoles... I was going through some old hard drives the other day, and found an invoice from K for a Pro2 package! It's since been sold on, but it was great while I had it! Served me well on a bunch of tours. Totally didn't realise it was your old desk until now haha

@@soundshopvlogs yeah, they weren’t much of a rider desk... I never understood why people didn’t like the workflow/patching page. Just made all the sense if you’ve ever patched actual cables in an analogue rig
@@dustinthiessen I’ve always said best bang for the buck was the pro2. Besides being priced well, It also helped that it sounded the best imho. The dl231 is also the best stage box ever. I sold it to make way for the CL5 i think.

I agree with Kay. If you really want to keep a Digico get an SD12-96k and a single SD-Rack. If you want to do gigs sell it all and get a couple of Rivage and a couple of dLives. You can fit 4 consoles in the budget of those three. I've seen a full S7000 with a DM48 (48i-24o), Dante cards and cases for 20k.

@@soundfreak8892 any A&H is in my opinion the best deal for the money on their price point, it's more a question of what brands you already carry. Someone like Kay who already has RIO and Dante equipment it makes sense to have a TF1 instead of an SQ5. But yes, dLive is a huge console for a ridiculous price.

Kay busts a lot of balls but for the man cutting the check all his points are valid. Sell them off, buy a Rivage. Put the money in the bank. You still have a rider friendly console and the folks who want the quantum are bringing it 8/10 times. I’m not in the same league, but right now as an owner, cash is king.

K has a point as usual. Corporate is where it’s at. You don’t have to invest in such expensive gear & you name your price.
Buy a Dlive. They have great scalability and are so cheap you can can actually make a profit of them!

If you're serious, I'm looking for an SD Rack. (Personally I think it's a bad move to sell. Plus I think most of the people that would give you a hard time about not having a quantum would be carrying their own consoles 9 out of 10 times anyway.) Also, I'm a diehard DiGiCo guy but after using a PM7 for the first time, I was *seriously* impressed. I wouldn't cry to lose out on an SD5 if I had a PM7 instead. Most of the folks who must have DiGiCo usually won't go for a Yamaha though.
Yeah I'm not sure what's going to happen. Digico has always been our bargaining chips . Plus, since we own them we're not at the mercy of someones rental cost.

I used to work at casino that would go through 3-4 VIs per year. They fail let and right. I'll never trust that brand.

@@soundshopvlogs I’m just trying to get my head around K’s math... $150K... SD824 = 15K. SD10 = 50K. SD5 = 60K... I guess w racks and sundries... seems high though. - never mind I see them listed on ebay !! Lol. I’ll do the math ;p
