    sir kung sakali kukunin yung allowable strength based on blockshear mumultiply pa po ba kung ilang blocks..thankyou po

      It should not be “the block” but the number of shear areas and tensile areas that matter. But in case these blocks ate identical, then you may multiply it to the number of blocks.

    Hello Sir, hindi po ba dapat ang Value ng "Effective Diameter" for 16mm Bolt is 20mm? as per NSCP 2015? Salamat po sir
    Bolt Diameter= 16mm
    Nominal Diameter= 16mm + 2mm= 18mm
    Effective Diameter = 18mm + 2mm = 20mm

      Sa pagkaka alam ko according sa code 1/16 inch so around 1.6mm siya in SI unit. If diameter ng bolt ang given you have to add twice of 1/16 inch or 1.6mm so total of 1/8 inch or around 3.2mm. but if diameter of hole was given you have to add only once. From 1.6mm to 2mm rounded up lang ata para lang makuha yung most critical area, also para maging conservative yung makukuhang value ng stress and load. Sana po makatulong.

    sir applicable po ba ang block shear sa staggered bolts? especially kung lahat ng elements like angle bar, are all bolted?

      Yes, from the principle that block shear is combination of tension and shear and in tension, stagger is considered, then it is possible that the tension part in block is in staggered manner.

      The problem asks for "Ultimate" strength, it means, Factored load ang gagamitin, hence, LRFD shall be used. If the problem asks for "service" or "allowable" then ASD shall be used.
