Im a mom to 8 and I like having a clean environment. I use too much bleach I'm sure. I buy 3 gallons a month and I fill the sink every morning with bleach and water and wash down all my services. Bleach is the only harsh chemical I use. I like to make a vinegar water solution for an all purpose cleaner and for laundry I have started to use mostly baking soda with a little powdered detergent mixed in. I do like to challenge myself to see what i can live without. ❤

We have a well and septic, so I have to be judicious with bleach. It can kill off the good bacteria in our septic system. When I use a bucket of cleaning solution, I carry it outside to dump in the driveway rather than pouring it into a sink or toilet.

One of the things that I think is very expensive right now is tin foil, I know a lot of people call it aluminum foil but I remember back in the day. And I just refuse to pay the price that they want to charge for it. You've given me ideas about putting one metal pan on top of another to do the same thing. But if I'm needing foil or I think I do I've been able to find alternatives. It's definitely been worth it.❤

I’ll never trust auto-pay, although I pay most bills online. We have one credit card, primarily for online purchases, that is paid in full monthly. I make my own taco seasoning. My recipe for onion soup mix includes beef bullion powder, so it’s more like the Lipton product. Nice tips!

Thanks so much for information about how bleach breaks down so quickly! So helpful!
Good info on auto-pay! I've never used it, but was considering doing so, so I could get that smidgen of cash back from a credit card, so I could Use the credit card companies the same way they used to use me.

I really appreciate the bleach to water ratio for the cleaning solution. Normally I would just (generously) pour bleach into a bucket.
Also have never used a packaged soup mix before but I will try out the one you gave.

Goodness, what difficult situations you experienced with autopay and the credit card!! Your stories really got my attention. It's good that you persevered by hiring a lawyer to get your money back.
Yes, while I am grateful for the abundance of things in the grocery stores, I agree with you that it's best to try to make things yourself. I just started making hummus and it tastes so much better than store bought. Plus, the money I save making food myself I can put toward higher quality food items, such as organic soup or bean pasta.

One of the things that I do to save money for when we travel or vacation or day trips is to put dollar bills away and also coins in a jar that I will later roll and take to the bank I put that money all together and then when we want to eat out when we travel that's the money that we use. I recently cashed in my coins from last year and I had saved $235. So I was able to add that to the money that I currently keep to the side for that purpose

I watched a UA-cam video recently of a famous person who was a judge on a famous cooking show. They no longer are but they said that one thing that has changed in the televised cooking world is shows that actually teach and instruct you how to cook. They said too many of them are competitions. Or they don't really take the time to teach their viewer step by step how to make things.

We do the same thing, unplug appliances that are not being used. I keep the breaker off on my electric dryer since I really don't use it anyway. Turn off lights in rooms. Anywhere that I can save money that way I try to as well. I have a personal fan that I use to keep me cool at different times. My husband bought it for me a few years back and it's rechargeable so rather than maybe cool off an entire room when there are others in the room who maybe don't want a fan on I can have my personal fan and I'm able to keep myself cool which is a great benefit for me.

Your comments about auto-pay were interesting. My late husband retired in 2001. We sold our home in CA and bought a 5th-wheel to live/travel in (and we spent winters in south TX, too and eventually bought a home in Victoria, TX) but we still had expenses and setting them up on auto-pay was the best decision for us. I'm still paying most expenses on auto-pay and have never had any problem. As a matter of fact, a couple of our utility company's want auto-pay and they will give a $5.00 deduction each month for using auto-pay.

    • @PenniestoDollars

That was a smart move! However, be careful because they sometimes will put old card regular monthly charges through for awhile thinking you want them and need time to notify the vendors. That happened to me when mine was stolen.
