i always say to myself their is a Da Vinci and a Michelangelo out there somewhere that nobody knows about because of how art is today, personally in my opinion these are two extremely successful business men.
Put anything into a gallery and it takes on another meaning. A white canvas with a red dot becomes a masterpiece and porn becomes higher art. I call it BS!
I think both artists are as the media theorist McLuhan would have put it "sense antennae of the present time". They have tapped into the self obsessed, consumeristic aspect of the modern world, the need to be entertained in short order rather than via a thoughtful gaze. Koon's colourful highly reflective works (reflective in surface not evocation of cognation), are all about narcissism as when you look at them, you see something beautiful....yourself! But you have to hand it to them they have both created monumental projects that are at times technically very challenging! ua-cam.com/video/Opx3jfz9IhE/v-deo.html&ab_channel=TheArtofEngineering
I can understand Koons take on Duchamp and the ready made. I’m an artist and my one ready made is a very old elevator counter weight that I found laying in an alley in Nashville. I saw it and had to have it. .
Can you say The Lion king or toy story movie are crap? Sure, they aren't silence of the lamb or the matrix, nor breaking bad .. but put yourself in a 3yrs old kid shoe, this expo would be insannnee! I give it to koon, Its just art in a children's language .. to me, its legit ... not something i would own, but something that worth a place in museum. These guys are pushing the boundaries of conceptual art, its not easy to do. Its not 'classic oil painting figurative artwork' i give you that, but its still something, your inner children wont get triggered in front of a Rembrandt. Its my way of seeing it, watch 'meet the rothschild's 'documentary and check out what kind of artwork they own ... i mean, it suits the persona
5:04 the funny thing Is that One looks like he works in assurances, the other Just got fired from his supply teacher job ..they dont have and artist look..but they are.
anything looks amazing famous people do. if you're not famous it just looks stupid and nothing. if you aren't famous what you do is worthless and ignored. all you need to do is get famous and you will suddenly be considereda genius
The France writer Michel Houellebecq wrote this "scene" in 2010. The painter Jed Martin in this novle painted a painting called "Jeff Koons and Damien Hirst Dividing the Art Markt"... Is he a prophet?
When the 2 richest artists in the world get together and have a completely boring and meaningless conversation that reveals what frauds they are and how hard their art truly sucks.
6:21 Crazy beautiful! I used to be torn about Koons (being American myself), but have made up my mind - excellent American innovator, influential genius, His colors, materials, precision, richness, shapes, and most of all, the metaphorical and conceptual ideas behind the pieces - takes my breath away at times.
Great personalities nonetheless, artists in what the 99% of artists throughout history have failed-dying poor and alone: Michelangelo, Rembrandt, Vermeer, etc., etc.
Oh Lord almighty! WHEN IS THE EMPEROR GONNA REALIZE HE'S GOT NO CLOTHS ON! They are selling bottled air! They can't even draw. Zero talent. They hire others to build or just flat out by something and make some vague statement about the meaning of life! It's all bull crap!
this is a mixed blessing, i think, as these artists dupe rich folks, regular people can get good art at an affordable price
Even if you don't think it's art, you have to admit they are both brilliant businessmen.
cunning crooks for sure
That's all they are.
Just wanted to point out jeff absolutely evaded the last question with his classic " ill just slowly mention picabia , dali , picasso"
i always say to myself their is a Da Vinci and a Michelangelo out there somewhere that nobody knows about because of how art is today, personally in my opinion these are two extremely successful business men.
These guys make Wall St types look like innocent angels. Wonderful how they've been able to con all this money from the rich and gullible.

If l owned a giant hoover, l would sneak into Hirsts gallery, hoover all of the pieces up, then never let them out.
The other Haifisch is missing; Larry Gagosian.
You say art I say pointless extremely, expensive obsolete, products that I could probably find in the local scrap yard
The great thing is DuChamp did his piece as a piss take about contempory /modern art. They obviously did'nt get the memo ! But hey ho. Its only money.

Jeff: 'dialogue... dialogue... dialogue...' Damien "I mean...' (but not as much)... I like Kirsty but maybe Paxman would've pushed them a bit more?
Most of the pieces are so large who has bought them? And for that much money?
Couple of charlatans.
Charlatans and no artists! only salesmans. Stupid contemporary no art! for stupid snob people

Both of them make good, respectable work. The price of their work, however, is pretty absurd.

I can See myself standing in the middle of Them
This is a lot like 2 old farts after Match Of The Day. Where's Greavesy?
WTF? I don't get it.

You mean you bought into his sales picture about that monstrosity being influenced by Michaelangelo’s “Pieta”? That’s indeed very American of you. 😹
