In this video, CBT Nuggets trainer Keith Barker covers two very important cybersecurity technologies, IDS and IPS. Keith defines and explains them with a network visualization that will help you choose the right one for your own needs.
If you're going to go to the trouble of locking down your network, you want to do it right. That means it's not enough to keep all your ports and network connections safe from attack, it also has to include knowing when a suspicious actor is sniffing around, or an attacker is actively attempting to maliciously enter your firewall.
Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS) and Intrusion Prevention Systems (IPS) are like a quarterback that has a great defensive line and also a good helmet. Both are important, both are trying to accomplish similar objectives, but both do it differently. Watch as Keith explains them and how to choose the right ones for your network.

I like this video! It is concise and you're easy to listen to. I've been looking for videos on topics like these that aren't overly long or hard to follow. I appreciate the visual graphic too!
Great information as always and taught in a easy to follow illustration. 👏🏾
Thanks for that clarification
Thanks for the video! I like how you mentioned high-end firewalls having ids/ips features. Although complexity is good, I like the idea of the single high-end firewall. Using the firewall with the features built into it would probably produce less false positives.
awesome!
a lot of youtubers say like hey "if u enjoyed this video, come watch this one!" and that trick doesnt usually work on me. but right now i can proudly say i wanna go watch that next VPN video
thank you bro.
you saved my grade LOL.
Is Azure sentenal an ips?
good
Where is the vpn vid ?
Gosh...just one caveat to all of this. If traffic is encrypted which it most likely is then you would either have to do MITM (not recommended) or be ok with the firewall not seeing any traffic on the wire that's encrypted. IDS/IPS are going more and more out of style. Protection on the endpoint is where the best security will be
First comment 😊
