- Well this was a great day to see two class 40s going to the West Country City of Plymouth from Preston, but it was a frustrating day for the people on board the train and enthusiasts waiting to film the occasion.
All was going well till the train reached Bristol Temple Meads where it got heard for 58 minutes due to some flooding south of Bristol.
I travelled the same line from Bristol and my train stopped for about five minutes, and yes you could see were the water had come down the bank through the bushes, but there was no water anywhere on the railway. (H&S gone over the top again)
So the train passed me at Dawlish Warren 66 late.
But the return was no better as the train was 58 late coming ECS from Laira, into Plymouth, so I had to make changes as I wanted to film the return at Teignmouth but would have got home very late..
I thought lets get to Bristol but that turn out to be a problem as my train from Plymouth which was a XC HST had been cancelled, so to get to Bristol I had to go on a 800 to Taunton were a XC train was terminated to return north to Leeds but only got to Birmingham I believe.
Its not relaxing travelling by train anymore it seams.
Excellent quality 💕💕💕😁😁😁❤️❤️😇😇😇😀😀😀😀👍👍👍👍👍
Thank you very much sir.
Great to see youngsters taking interest in the locos, at Temple Mead.
It is a shame places like the Vulcan Foundry no longer exist, and our locomotive making is history only now. I always drive by with sadness in my heart at what has become of the place.
Thanks for your comment matey which I enjoyed reading, yes so many thing happen on the railway which most of the time I do not like.
Thank you for taking a look at one of my class 40 videos from this year.
Thank you for giving me my Class 40 fixture I need it once every 3 days
Love these locomotives because of their sound and size and just shape. Everything about it i love
Glad you like them in this video, I'm going a class 40 in November. Cheers for your comment.
Really great. Treated myself to a day out to Bristol temple Meads from Nottingham. Didn't know this was there so got photos of the 40s as well as Duchess of Sutherland. Don't ever remember seeing double headed 40s in their service years!!!!
Well Peter you did do well, and what a great surprise for you seeing all them old engines.
Thanks for sharing your day out Peter. Regards Mike.
Great shots - many thanks
Hi Brian, thank you for watching.
Brilliant video! The Whistlers look fantastic!
They are such great locos I think Henry, they are off to Scotland this Saturday.
Awesome footage. Am I the only one who thought it looked like the now stunted HST was looking mournfully at the long rake of intercity liveried coaches and reliving its youth. lol
Not seen a comment like that before David, but we all have our opinions and why not. Cheers for taking a look. Mike.
Double headed 40s can’t get much better than that. Nice work Mike.
Thank you Bryan, I must Amit it was a very frustrating day.
Lovely bit of filming at Dawlish Warren, what a sight as they round the curve. And the sound the pair created at Temple Meads before opening up, brilliant stuff Mike. Thanks for sharing, Cheers Garry.
Garry I had a long wait as I said when they were coming south but it was worth it when they came into sight, and yes great departure from Bristol.
Thanks Mike.
Excellent Mike, looks like BTM is getting a referb.
It does look that way I agree Steve. Cheers Mike.
Some great footage there Mike. Just a shame today (Sunday) has been such a bad day for the railway.
Thanks Julian I have a bit of a not everything we right day, and yes I know what you mean about yesterday at Salisbury.
They looked and sounded great. A long way to go but worth it I reckon. Nice video.
Yes, and lots of disappointments during the day mate.
Well I have a new PC and speakers and your video's look and sound even better. Another great capture Mike.
That is good to hear Paul, I better get another sorted so you can enjoy with your new PC. Cheers Mike.
Interesting double header, good one.
Thanks Gaz.
Fab video thanks for sharing and fair play to the effort involved to get it..For me lucky enough to be onboard this train what a wondaful 14 hours it was... despite the hiccup wait at Bristol to be pulled by 2 of my fav locos was epic despite the not allowed to lean out of windows nonsense we have..still didnt spoil my day at all ..drank a few more beers and ate some more food lol
Kev that sounds like you had a brilliant day, you did what I do on these rail tours, and yes I agree it a shame we can't stick our heads out of the window now and again.
I filmed them to great locos again today. Cheers for watching Mike.
Great filming.... and to only think the misses and I was walking along the dawlish sea wall a couple of days earlier
Well it is a nice walk along there, and I will be pleased when you can walk all the way to Dawlish keeping by the see.
Thank you for watching and you comment..
Spot on Mike, rare to see two 40's together. Both looking good at Dawlish.👍
David that was the reason I when all the way to get that Shot at Dawlish Warren as there were two forty's which I think could have been a first. Cheers Mike.
Wish i lved closer for a day trip to Dawlish, nice video.
I live 200 miles away and I did it, thanks for watching.
Thanks for all your efforts "to be there" on such a special day. I thought I 'd gone a long way, 60 miles round trip for a 2 minute flash past ! Thanks again
Your very welcome Mike, I was thinking to myself why am I putting myself though all this for two shots, but when you watch the footage on the big screen its all worth it Mike.
Thank for your comment, Mike wm.
Mike, Well done for undertaking a mammoth journey to bring us, the viewers, some great captures. I was at the Lickey for the Duchess and had intended waiting for the 40s but looking at the late running I decided not to. However, these would have been a much better proposition, soundwise, as it turns out. Regards, John
Oh really John, I haven't had time yet to watch what you did on Saturday, but for me it was a lot of waiting around and getting frustrated that the return was also going to be late.
I was a lot happier when I watched the footage on the computer John.
Regards Mike.
Really impressive, well worth the 2 hrs at Dawlish. The Whistlers look great in the Green. Like the other comment,, the sound of the Turbos at Bristol, gave me tingles . Lol.
Phil Clarke, has a good vid of them on test to Chester.
They almost blend into the shrubbery at Crewe.
Hope your keeping ok. Big thumbs up from Me.
Cheers Ian for watching and your comment, I watched Phil's filming of the 40s last week, and yes he got them from where he spends a lot of his spare time. Regards Mike.
Excellent footage 👍
The 40s certainly look very good, just a pity they weren't hauling maroon Mk1s
Yes you are right matey. Cheers Mike.
Gorgeous Mike and lovely going away shot along sea wall. Thanks again
Yes it was a lot of travelling for only two shots Les, but well worth seeing them come into sight at The Warren. Cheers for taking a look regards Mike
Fabulous video Mike. Great sound. I watched it leave Crewe on railcam they sounded amazing. Well done 🤓 stay safe 💙
Yeah I was impress with there departure at BTM, all good indeed. Mike.
Very Nice am also in the video
Oh that is good Martin, and thanks for finding and commenting, was you by the wall
@@antman09ful1 Yes by the wall with Black coat on
Great shots Mike! Magnificent beasts.
Very true that Paul, cheers Mike.
Very nice Mike :)
Truly a sight you don't see every day. Maybe back in the 50s or 60s, but not today.
Yeah there was many of them around then, cheers for taking a look at my video.
excellent location Mike. good to view. thank you
Bit of a frustrating day with all the problems I had Keith, but it all went well I suppose with getting the two planned shots.
Great video mate some really nice scenery as well, I really enjoyed watching this, superb filming👍🏼👍🏼
Glad you did enjoyed as it give me the feeling its all worth while traveling to get some good footage. Thank you again Mike.
@@antman09ful1 No worries👍🏼😁
Nice footage mate and a good result considering how frustrating the day was for everyone, yourself included.
Indeed it was Phil a frustrating day, I was starting to feel the cold at Dawlish Warren wait two hours, and there was holidaymakers in t-shirts and shorts.
Great video Mike. Hoping to see these on the WCML as they head to Edinburgh in just under two weeks. Will be good to see Class 40s in Scotland again.
Yeah you get out there and see them , I'm sure you will not be disappointed Stewart.
Not sure If I can film trains that day.
excellent shots 👍at dawlish and Bristol hope they bring them to Kent soon
Who knows they might get down your way in 2022.
Like 6 beautiful video, greetings 🚂👍🙋♂️
Many thanks.
Nice vid. You got me at BTM 2:00 in that little group of 3 I was on the left of them, shame I didn’t see you.. great to see these class 40s on the mainline
You must have been stood right next to each other for the final platform end shot too!
I thought you was there when I compared the video angles at BTM, cheers Kev for commenting and watching. Mike.
Yes Paul well spotted wish I had noticed Kev , but there was a few with camcorders, but I only meet Kev in September. Mike.
nice 47 on the rear.
Lol, I like Duffs, but you cant beat a pair of Whistlers. 😀👍
Oh yes we should not forget the good old 47 Christopher.
EE v Sulzer?? EE wins every time!! 😉😋
Nice shots, Mike. Shame about the late running but you've still put a great video together from yesterday. Hopefully they'll have a clearer run to Edinburgh in a couple of weeks!
Thank you Kyle, well the trip to Edinburgh will go like clockwork as I wont be able to film them 40s on that day. Thanks Kyle for watching, Mike.
You got the best view there Ant, cant be ground view for those pair.
Thank you for saying that mate. Regards Mike.
This is a good train film this one and not a mention of ‘tones’, ‘clag’, ‘thrash’ or other adjectives so awfully misapplied to a diesel powered locomotive.
Thank you John for your comment on my video, pleased you found it a good video.
hello Mike, great video. just as i was getting sick of seeing the lumo train on youtube the class 40s come to the rescue and i can see proper trains again,is D200 still in the mueseum ?
Nice one Peter for watching, I haven't seen or videoed one of the cheap trains yet. Mike.
Nice video. But utterly pointless to pay £120+ to travel on it, in air conditioned Mark 3s, where the vestibule windows were kept shut, by Gestapo stewarding. Heritage diesel railtours will be gone completely within a couple of years. Hope ORR and NR will be satisfied. As if they care about anything except covering their H&S-obsessed arses.
Jim this a great comment which I hope not all comes true. Thanks for watching Mike.
mike saw sermon ls week n The Dean mentioned Canterbury to whitstable line fantastic history he said its now a walkway but mr. Google says its Still a line ck out( mapof whitstable fascinating) as u have given me so much stuff yehbrian
Thanks for watching this video from last year.
