  • A herd of 20 🐎 Konik horses, which were translocated from Latvia at the end of October, has just been released onto Ermakov Island in the Ukrainian part of the Danube Delta by Rewilding Ukraine and partners. Following the translocation of 23 animals to the island last year, this new group will further enhance wild nature through their browsing, grazing and fertilizing, and will aid the development of nature-based tourism.

Trying releasing some jaguars next when the herbivore populations builds up because jaguars were once native to Europe during the pleistocene.

Well, their goal isn't to reestablish a pleistocene landscape, and jaguars were only present at the start of pleistocene. However, rewilding Europe could re-establish lions because modern lions were found in Europe(and even Ukraine)

They reintroduced water buffalo that were around in the pleistocene so jaguars aren't that different.

@@Dinosaur-mw9cv well,I may say that you're partially wrong. They're also using water buffalo because they are present locally(in the form of bubablus bubalis)since centuries and could be considered native, furthermore, water buffalo(actual ones)prbably would've come back naturally. Unlike jaguars that lived way back than european water buffalo, the Jaguar may have been a natural extinction(during the middle Pleistocene)meanwhile the water buffalo may have been human induced 7k years ago. However,a more suitable reintroduction would be the spotted hyena, and even the leopard

Hyenas and leopards lived there during the pleistocene too a jaguar is no different and jaguars are good swimmers so its the perfect habitat.

@@Dinosaur-mw9cv you're not getting the point, jaguars disappeared from Europe naturally, other predators(leopards, wolves, lions, hyenas and homotheres) outcompeted them in middle pleistocene. However Cave hyenas(which are spotted hyenas) disappeared at the end of Pleistocene because of men, same as panthera spelaea which disappeared at the same time as hyenas and modern lions that lived throughout Europe until recently(Roman era and some centuries in the Caucasus). Habitat doesn't validate a species introduction,if so Musk ox should be introduced into the Falklands. Jaguars have no place in Europe but hyenas, lions and perhaps leopards have
