Ever wondered why your city's transit just doesn't seem quite up to snuff? RMTransit is here to answer that, and help you open your eyes to all of the different public transportation systems around the world!
Reece (the RM in RMTransit) is an urbanist and public transport critic residing in Toronto, Canada, with the goal of helping the world become more connected through metros, trams, buses, high-speed trains, and all other transport modes.
For us Mexicans one of the most important things that happened this year was the opening of three of our newest trains after 30 years of neglect, the Mexico - Toluca intercity train, the interoceanic train, and the Tren Maya, as well as the creation of a plan for continuing the recovery of train routes all over México, will you make a video exploring these and other new train proyects in latin America?
Seconding this. Even with the heavy controversy attached to certain projects, on the whole I think Mexico has a bright future ahead.

Tren Maya is getting a lot of buzz. I want to know more about it.
@@michaelrmurphy2734 Basically, it's (as of now) an intercity train between Campeche and Cancún with future expansion to connect the remaining peninsula, albeit not without controversies (as usual). One English source is by Trains Are Awesome where he talks about the issues in detail.

Reece, your channel is probably the best one I came across this year! I absolutely love your moto of: "Transit doesn't need to be perfect, it just needs to be functional and people will use it". I think your coverage of busses is something very unique that doesn't come up in a lot of transit videos. Living is Israel, buses are the backbone of the transit network and your videos really helped me understand how they can improve because outside of Tel Aviv, Jerusalem and Haifa, transit really sucks...

Thank you for making this content. It's really cool to learn about different train systems around the world. Hope you can cover highly controversial Tren Maya & the Mexican interoceanic train that plans to compete with the Panama Canal. Most importantly Mx president AMLO signed a decree on November 20 to recover 7 train tracks that have been privatized and abandoned in the past administrations. So there is a lot you can cover there.
Tren Maya alone is certainly a very big video to be made!
As much as I was happy to see the REM's first phase open, the cancellatino of the REM de l'Est really soured me, especially given the fact that the provincial government has the power to put its foot down and force through the original plan without regard for the lobby groups that opposed it. The REM de la Rive Sud plan and the discourse in the exoburbs shows a lot of support for the wider network there, and given it's a suburban metro I think it would make sense to have a new line on the south shore built especially given how willing the municipal governments are there to approve and pitch in to get it done. The Mont-Saint-Hilaire line would be ideal for REMification since on top of its own line it has an ideal spur location on the rail corridor going through Greenfield Park that has space for a REM line to be built in it without widening it that could follow the old Granby line all the way to Richelieu or Marrieville, and in Greenfield Park the spur that still exists for CN's cargo line connecting to all the factories in Longuile and Brossard is the ideal location for a REM spur to be added that would give cross-connectivity to it to the REM where it intersects near the Dix30 right where the old express bus terminal is being turned into new apartments, and could continue down that corridor all the way to where it meets up with Tascheau Boulevard where they could have it meet up with the REM de la Rive Sud and potentially go as far down as Candiac (since there are hits that the south end of the line could go as far as Chateauguay).
By my napkin math this project would, in isolation from the REM de la Rive Sud, be about as large as the REM primary network, though with the only tunnelling being under the canal since you'd need to build a new line for it rather then use the Victoria bridge, and this new tunnel bridge combination would be the most expensive part, but with how much of it is at ground level and how little of it would need to be elevated compared to the REM it likely would only cost as much as the REM to build in a worst case scenario which given the ridership potential would be well worth the cost. I'm certain given how much the REM de l'Est was going to cost and how much ridership it was expected to have yet still saw the CDPQ approve of the original idea that they'd jump at the opportunity to do this if someone proposed it.

Hi Reece, I am one of your new subscribers from 2023. I appreciate all of the thought and effort you put into your articles and videos. I have always been moderately interested in public transit but watching and reading what you produce has inspired me to plan public transit destination vacations to some of the places you highlight. The good for me in 2023 was the REM starting, though I don't live close to those first five stations. The good for me in 2024 (hopefully) is the next phase of the REM opening which will have it reach Montreal's west Island, where I live. Bad for me in 2023 is the CAQ government refusing to give transit agencies new predictable and sufficient sources of funding. Merry Christmas and all the best in 2024 for you and your family.
