    This video should be shown in every Ballet class in the world. Understanding the history of this incredible art form would enrich our current repertoire. Wonderful historic record of some of the greatest dancers of the 20th Century. Thank you!!!

    No hay palabras "Magistral" Maravillosas bailarinas románticas. Y oír a Erik, todo un placer. Ya no hay ballets con esta elegancia, tan vaporosos las bailarinas..que parecen etéreas. GRACIAS JOHN

      yes 'Another world of ballet' put it nicely. and the porte de bras is so distinctively different from the later so call classical ballet period

    I have always wanted to learn the romantic ballet and hopefully reflect it in my dancing

    • @JohnRaymondHall
      @JohnRaymondHall  6 років тому +1

      there are some wonderful qualities in romantic ballet (the quick precision of the foot work for example) that can be drawn into modern technique

    Chopin? Not every viewer knows the names of the ballets, the composers, etc. it would so help educate us if docs used a line or two !

    • @JohnRaymondHall
      @JohnRaymondHall  6 років тому +1

      yes, Chopin - usually i go on and on (and on) in the 'notes' i add to each video (like at random ua-cam.com/video/SdOdYgbmjFo/v-deo.html&lc=z22ys13pblzkshfveacdp434vbjytt0epcc1bfhn4dxw03c010c&feature=em-comments) - identifying those things you mention - can't imagine why i didn't here :)

    I have saved this video with my special favourites. The all dance with such charm and vivacity. I don't consider this type of ballet - quite close to Bournonville - as romantic but pre-classical. I think Classicism was shaped by Petipa. Romanticism starts entering though in the second acts of Giselle and Swan Lake. Is the Pas de Quatre Romantic? Who cares! its mainly about grace and beauty with delicate restrained emotions.

      I meant to add another comment.My favourite composer, Schumann, saw Taglioni dance in Vienna and said that she represented his ideal of art

    • @JohnRaymondHall
      @JohnRaymondHall  7 років тому +2

      hi Felix! good to save with your favourites but better if you download this (and other things you really like) as YT can remove things. the doco has a good selection of Romantic ballets - the Romantic era has been dated as beginning in 1827 with 'La Sylphide' and finishing in 1870 with 'Coppélia' - 'Swan Lake' (and 'Sleeping Beauty') are considered prototypical classical ballets - though the two types do overlap in many ways - one didn't stop and something completely different begin!and i agree - the labeling does not matter - it's whether the ballet moves or stimulates or whatever.
