Living Colour has such amazing musicianship, and their influences are so diverse. They incorporate elements of rock, punk, blues, funk, soul, hip hop, world music, and other musical styles, in their music. Their songs make really profound statements, that reflect life experiences. This is a great album. You should do a reaction to Glamour Boys, which is also off of this album. Cheers, Harri! 👍🏻👍🏻✌️
Tickets to see Living Colour went on sale today for their August 8th show here in Central Illinois. I'm really looking forward to seeing it. I remember watching a performance by them on the television show Live at The Apollo not too long after the Vivid album was released. It was funny seeing the stunned and bewildered look on the faces of many of the older members of the audience. They didn't know what just hit 'em.
Thank you for posting this, my favorite song from Vivid. At the time of its release, 1988-89, I was so tired of the 80's plasticity; i.e. bands playing for optics at the expense of meaningful, visceral energy. And Times Up, their sophomore release, remains a desert island keeper.
Thanks for the thoughtful reaction. This was one of the few bands that had a message to impart. They should have been huge but their label said they “didn’t know how to market them.” Didn’t want to get blamed for their message, was probably more like it. Anyhow I enjoy your channel and that you’re real with us. More LC tunes to react to would be Lovely ve Rears its Ugly Head ( a ballad!), Auslander, and Type.
I was so proud of metal when this came out and Anthrax had a song called Who cares wins. in the video they interview Homeless people . I I thought this song would give more longevity to the band .Strange who makes it and who doesn’t .
Thanks!! I've always wanted someone to react to this one. Usually all you hear is Cult of Personality, which is a great song, but this one is prolly my favorite.
If you circle back to Living Colour (which everyone absolutely should), you may consider checking out "Type" off their second album. It performed relatively well on the rock charts, but seems to have slipped through the cracks of time. It's a funk-metal beauty with amazing groove and timeless lyrics. I've requested this on other channels that have reacted positively, emotionally to this track, as well as "Cult of Personality," as its a no-brainer companion piece.
Please checkout Fishbone, they're also an all black ska funk punk rock soul band w/ a lotta social commentary and more talent than any one band should have.
Love Love Love this song. You're absolutely right when I got this CD back in 1988 this song jumped out at me. Fabulous. Corey Glover is one of my favorite singers of all time. Love his intensity and passion.
Great song. I expected a lyrical theme similar to Bob Dylan's "Dear Landlord". While the themes are similar this one seems to more directly target the subset of landlords often referred to as "slumlords". I agree, it is very powerful and very well done.
Two words: bad ass! Living Colour could rock with the best of them; This is so good -- thanks, Diane and Harri!

These guys could Rock period. I love that they did what they loved and weren’t stopped by societal expectations.
They still do...

Vernon Reid y'all, shredding!!!!!
I love that you reacted to more Living Colour songs than just “Cult of Personality”.
The entire Vivid album is amazing. Can't go wrong clicking play on any of the songs.
One of my favorite Black Rock bands.could you react to Pride from their times up album
Deep and real lyrics. Song smokes. Living Colour has a tendency to write about things we see and experience everyday. 🤟🤟🤟
One song: Desperate People. YIKES!

They came out of NYC at a time when the city was just starting to gentrify. Especially Brooklyn.
Biscuits EP - Love and Happiness and some James Brown. So good.
What a powerful message and wonderfully delivered! I thoroughly enjoyed this. Thanks Harri and Diane 🌺✌️
One of the VERY BEST bangers of all time!!! Always on my playlist!!

Have you done "cult of personality"? That was the other of their bigger songs. Just as many meaningful lyrics backed by equally solid rock.

This whole album was ground breaking. The musicianship and Corey's voice were just amazing!

I saw these guys supporting Anthrax back in 1989 and they were incredible. I've been a fan ever since.
That was a great song! I remember buying that album ..where ya gonna go go go
❤This group ❤
Outstanding! I strongly recommend their song Cult of Personality. Amazingly powerful & as true as Frank Zappa's I Am The Slime.
This jam is even more relevant today, then when it came out, especially with everything that's going on in big cities like Chicago. Thanks!
Sad but great song!!!
👍👍👍😊 Beto - Brasília - df
Happy Easter Harry!
Thank you..wish you same ✌🏾
The guitar player wrote the music AND the words.
