  • Živinice is a town and a populated place in the northeastern part of Bosnia and Herzegovina, south of Tuzla. Administratively, it belongs to the Tuzla Canton within the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The town of Živinica, as the basic unit of local self-government, was formed by the Decision of the National Assembly of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, no. 28/59, June 19, 1959. Today, it covers an area of about 300 km2 where about 75,000 inhabitants live together with the exile population. 26 local communities have been constituted in the city area, four of which constitute the city settlement. According to estimates, around 23,000 people live in the city and its suburbs, which is almost twice the number compared to the pre-war period.
