The "button" controlled medication is regulated by a pump, the machine is pre set to only give a certain amount of medication in a certain amount of time. So say its set at for ex, 10ml in 1 hour and the machine gives you shots of 5ml a shot (each time you press the button.) If you press the button more then twice in an hour the pump wont give you more then the 10ml per hour. The pumps memory will just register how many times you pressed the button but wont administer more medication.
I'm actually glad that you are withholding info to keep your personal life personal! Sometimes youtubers share every single detail with viewers and it just seems like too much. Thanks Rachel! Love you!!
Cherish every moment of being pregnant I was watching your videos and was on track with you and I just lost my son he was a stillborn. Make sure you enjoy every moment of your pregnancy! You always have to remember how blessed you are!
i got pretty emotional during the part when you talked about how children deserve loving homes. your children are going to be lucky to have you as a mother. you seem like such a beautiful person inside and out
I'm actually going to school to be an OB nurse and work with delivering babies. So watching these videos makes me that much more excited for my career!
good idea on holding off on the epidural as long as you can! my nurse said every cm that you wait is another hour of labor (roughly) so if you get the epi at 3cm vs 5 cm that can add two hours on to labor. i also recommend waiting as long as you can to go into the hospital. i would love to see a baby shower haul!!
Oh and although I totally don't know you, I'm genuinely so excited for you! You're on an exciting, life-changing journey! I'm so glad you are soaking up every second of it!
I had twins and had the epidural at last minute for c-section by a specislist and it was not that bad. It was best for babies as they were early/ small
absolute relief. I could feel what was happening but the pain was gone, it was wonderful. I was able to sit back and relax, I was even able to sleep for a few hours while I continued to dilate, it was amazing. You need to know that the epidural comes after a long long wait so not being able to move around isn't so bad, you generally have it e few hours before actually pushing. If it's well done you can feel the need to push but no pain. Also being able to dose it yourself is great, they used to
I would highly recommend the epidural! I had it with both my pregnancies...I was induced with my first, and went in labour naturally with the second. You don't want to wait too long to decide, or you could be too late for them to give it to you. Have you tried Eucerin Original Healing lotion? I got it at Shoppers, and is perfect for super dry skin.
i really love that you're making these videos because i feel like its just me and you and we're sitting by a fire drinking tea, just talking about baby(: it makes me feel like a part of your family (: Its nice (:
I'm so glad I found your channel, Rachel. You are such an inspiring woman and I really truly hope for the best for you and your family, from the bottom of my heart. I am also so glad that you guys are open to adoption regardless of the age of the child. I am adopted, and I consider my adoptive parents my "real" parents. They are the world to me, and we have SUCH a good relationship. I wish the same for you, Chris and your children (regardless of adoption or not). :)
The button for the epidural medication is on a limit, no matter how much you press it, it will only deliver a certain amount of medication at certain times. It defintely didnt take 20 minutes with my second-it took a while with my first but with my second it was over before I even knew the guy started. I VBACed with #2 (vaginal birth after csection) and waited a long time to get the epi and finally did about 4 hours before she was born and was happy to have it pushing her out.
I would love a baby shower haul!!! Could you do a nursery tour when you have it all ready? I love getting inspired by seeing what other expectant mothers put in their baby nursery!
Would love to see a what you get for your baby shower! We don't get a lot of them where I live (I only remember one), so the very few we have are just so special!
my mom had my 2 siblings and I without the epidural! she was scared about the possible reprocussions, etc... she made it through and she's happy she did it without! you can do it!
The games show button thing that you were talking about is called a PCEA pump or a patient controlled epidural analgesia. Even though it is patient controlled, the machine that it is connected to is programmed by the nurse or doctor to make sure that you dont overdose, so it only lets out the amount of the analgesia that is allotted for that time . It's totally safe for you! I'm a nursing student, so I hope that helps!
The pump button won't administer more than is allowed per hour. You can't overmedicate yourself only get a bolus as needed. My husband had one for a skin graft and I watched it go in. I think it prepared me for getting one with child birth. :)
one positive thing about the epidural is that just incase there is a problem and they need to do a quick c-section...you already have the epidural in and have a urinary catheter inserted ( thing that empties your bladder) so you are saving time in the long run if such a thing would occur.
I have two kids, 4 and 19 months and delivered in oakville. 1) epidurals are great but you are smart to wait as long as possible. If done to soon they can slow down delivery. 2) pack your hospital bag one month early. I know it sounds crazy but my first was three weeks early and you won't want to think about it once you're in labour. You are so cute and I love your videos. 😁
The epidural! I had my baby a month ago today :) i couldnt breathe through my contractions at only 2 cms so I got the epidural. They say it takes about 15 minutes like you said but from my experience it only took about 5-10 but did not hurt at all and only took about 2 minutes for it to kick in. They set a limit for the button so you cant over medicate yourself and a urethral catheter is inserted after the epidural so thats not painful or a big deal at all. The specialist is my best friend. ;)
Yessss! Ive been waiting for this all day, Im in England so its 1:30 am here, I loooove watching your pregnancy videos, it gets me sooo excited for when my husband and I decide to have kids, Please never stop making videos! Love you
Hey Rachel first time commenting but I think you should decide before hand if you want the epidural because after a certain point they won't allow you to have the epidural; there's a time frame. Congrats on the baby and hope all goes well.
My sister is also pregnant! And, she plays guitar, so when the vibrations from her acoustic guitar are against her stomach, the baby kicks and wiggles! She says it's the cutest thing ever!
Could you please do a video about baby shower gift ideas? Like gifts that you want or gifts you think generally think would be good for any expecting mother? You could make it like your mother's day gift ideas video, where you mention things to give and things not to give.
At the end of your pregnancy, you should totally do a montage with a picture of your baby bump from every week you made a video. It'll be crazy awesome to see how much it's changed over the course of your filming!!
My son is 16 months old and I'm so happy for you! Love your sweet pregnancy videos. I'm not sure if you are a meat eater but add grass fed gelatin to your coffee or tea will make a huge impact on your skin as far as elasticity is concerned. I used it throughout my pregnancy and I have zero stretch marks. If you get a chance you should watch the business of being born. So informative when it comes to the labor process. I had a natural birth and I have such fond memories of it!
Baby shower haul(: and are you guys going to video tape ( not the actual labor part) but of you going into labor and stuff? And , I feel like you're such a great mother already! You care so much for "baby" and you make me so excited for you guys! Congratulations!
About those clicker things to boost with pain meds: there's a thing in the machine so you can't click it too often and take in too much than what is safe.
Just a thought - you may want to bump up your priority of getting your hospital bag ready. I only say this because in my first pregnancy, like most first time mums i assumed i had ages to get that ready and focused on everything else first - and sadly ended up needing it in the second trimester due to unforseen complications. On top of the stress of the situation, i also had the stress of trying to get everything ready and it was horrible.
in my experience epidural it's not bad, I mean I had and epidural but not too much dosis, only to make the pain a little less, because if you have a lot of that you wont feel the contractions, and you need to feel them, otherwise if would be difficult to push, because you have to push when you feel the contractions, I'm already a mom so I can tell you that whit certainty. and yes it is a procces that have to be done very carefully,I had mine when I was 9 cm dilated. not a the very fisrt moment.
Find out if your maternity unit provides remifentanyl - it's the closest to an epidural as possible, but not into the back, not as long lasting or as risky etc!
Hi Rach, I just want to share my epidural experience with you. I had an extremly long labour as I wouldn't dilate, I walked, sat, moved, stretched for hours and hours while I was waiting to dilate, the pain became unbelievable, contractions are very painful! When it became too much I asked for the epidural. I didn't even feel the needle, I just had a strange sensation in my back but nothing compared to the previous pain. It worked very quickly(certainly not 20mins)and once it was done it was
So happy for you. Love all your videos. Hope everything keeps going amazingly. And I know this is off topic.. but where is your top from? It is very pretty!
I would love to see a baby shower haul because my sister is having her baby via cesarean on Monday. I would love to get some ideas of items that she may not think that she needs or just neat baby things that I never knew existed :)
I am a graduate nurse, fixing to take boards, feel free to message me any questions and I'll do my best. :) Yes, epidurals make it so you can't get up because you might fall over while attempting to move. They will insert what's called a foley catheter in your bladder during this time, it is removed before pushing. Epidurals given at the wrong time (too early) do lengthen and slow down labor. Also, they don't always work correctly. Just know your options and do what's best for you. :)
The epidural isn't as bad as it sounds.. I needed one with both of my babies as my labours are really long and I'm not able to sleep.. 58 hours and 49 for my second. BUT the epidural didn't work the second time around and before I knew it she was here! I'm all for thinking if someone needs it then have it.. It's all down to the type of labour you have, I do wish mine were quicker!! Xxx
I have had three pregnancy with nutural pain and no pain relievers and it was not that hard. I just put in my mind its over soon and my last baby is 4 months.
I love how you want to adopt a baby one day :) I was fostered from birth and adopted at 6 weeks old to parents who had lost a baby, tried 6 lots of IVF and could no longer have a baby. I am so happy my life turned out like it has, now I have 2 daughters of my own and would also love to adopt one day :) You will make a wonderful mother, good luck with EVERYTHING :) xx
Ugh, I remember the glucose test, except I had to eat certain foods like wheat toast along with a glass of mil and oj...not fun to do for a sick person :(
Aw you're so sweet! Thanks for watching!! xoxo

It was so touching with what you were saying about adoption. It was just so sweet and it almost made me cry.
I look forward to these every week! You seem so excited to be a mom, I'm so happy for you & Chris!
Yes, I will be filming the video July 7th so it'll go up right after that! :) The baby shower is not until August
I'm extremely sorry for your loss. I can't imagine watching this after losing a child. I wish the best for you.
I completely agree with you! All children should have a loving home

I am pretty sure you can still get pain medication even if you choose not to get an epidural-its not an all or nothing process.
Tutorial on this look PLEASE!!!!
