    That reduction gear oil is quite black at only 5000 miles. Seems H hasn't fixed this issue yet.
    Is the rubber grommet problem on 2018-2022 as well ?
    Great video filming

      Rubber grommet is a issue on all models. When they sent the new motor I thought they would of reworked the issue but it had the same design unfortunately

      @@owensautotips This explains that many owners get intermitted "Check electric vehicle system" with no codes. Water gets to the sensor maybe during heavy rain drive or car wash, then dries off.

      @@Peppermint1 100% this one wouldn’t go into drive etc then the next day it would but a few days later the water caused corrosion and had to replace the motor as they do sell the sensor separately anymore

    Looks like a lot of hours to replace the motor. Great info. What is missing is the joining of the motor and the reduction gear.
    From the internet it appears that all the HMG cars with this drivetrain have the same issue. Howerver, it seems many cars do 100.000+ km with no issues.

      @@johangustavsen6962 can have these done within the day, Ioniq 5 is worse as it’s built into the rear subframe so need to drop it then remove the motor.. nothing is missing in the joint

      @@owensautotips there is certain speculation that the bearing fault that comes up in some of these drivetrains is due to a zero-tolerance balance between the motors driveshaft and the main wheel in the reduction unit. I was curious to see how you assembled it but it was missing from the video.
      I was not aware that this sensor unit also is a reason for changing the drive unit. Good info!

      @@johangustavsen6962 nothing goes in between buddy, literally push the reduction gear onto the motor and bolt it. No gaskets or sealant etc

      @@owensautotips I see. But I was also wondering how you make sure the reduction unit is installed on the drive shaft without pressing it in any direction. If you say put it "half way on" and then jolt the main motor shaft that could potentially put the whole thing out of balance? I read from other forums that usually there is a built in tolerance between two mechanical units but not in this case, it's a zero tolerance joining of motor and reduction gear.

      @@johangustavsen6962 it’s basically like pushing a drive shaft into a gear box, best way I can explain it

    Owen, that grommet appears to separate the resolver cavity from the motor stator and rotor, neither of which should contain water. The grommet looks more like a dust cap more than watertight. And what is the actual result of the moisture ingress? It is a drop in HV isolation resistance or is the resolver affected? Thanks for the video!

    • @owensautotips
      @owensautotips  9 місяців тому +1

      Neither contains water but it allows moisture through, it’s more of if your lucky it will just cause the motor to fail but in some cases it will travel up the look and cause further damage to the mcu etc
