I completely agree brother. I want to see more cooking, and I really wish that people understood better that you can take your trophy without being a "Trophy Hunter" the way the media portraits. Just cuz there's a head on the wall does not mean that the animal was not properly harvested for all it was worth. 🤯🔫
Scott Brobeck yeah I’m stoked for more hunters afield. There’s too many tags, we need them filled. There aren’t enough roads for access for these activities, so let’s punch more roads in the woods. We need to keep turning the resource into a commodity to be exploited. It’s good for all of us!
@DMc Family Outdoors It's what everyone wanted. More people to be outside, enjoying nature, hunting, doing what we do. We made fun of city folk and their grocery store meat. We are getting what we asked for.
I am admittedly late to the game inasmuch as I discovered MeatEater and Steven Rinella just a few weeks ago on Netflix. I have binged since then just watching the series and him as its central character. Allow me to digress for the moment by saying that, as one who recently turned 70 years old, I wish I hunted more often but managed to do that only once about 15 years ago. At that time, a sergeant in the Marine Corps, who I had befriended while he was on his third tour in Iraq, had just returned to the U.S. Shortly after his return, he invited me to join him and six of his fellow Marines to his parents’ home in Arkansas to celebrate his 30th birthday and, while there, to hunt for deer on land not too far from his parents' home. It was my privilege to be with the Sargent and his Marines. While they were serious in their hunting endeavor and had enough hunting gear on them to start World War III, I can still visualize the utter shock in their faces as I, a damn Yankee and civilian from Long Island, was the only hunter on that trip to shoot a deer. I gladly gave the deer to the Marines on the trip as they wanted to bring home venison to their families for Thanksgiving. Having said all this, I write to say how much I enjoy watching the MeatEater series and seeing Steven Rinella do what he loves to do: hunt. Like his series says at the opening of each episode, he hunts to live and lives to hunt. While I have seen numerous UA-cam videos showing guys on hunting trips, not one comes close in describing the joy and the serenity on Steven's face as he goes about on his hunting trips to catch anything that has four legs or can swim and to tell his story to others in the way that he does. While I know of him only by watching his series and the various lectures and interviews he has given, I see him as one who juggles a lot of time-consuming, complicated things in his life while retaining a wonderful simplicity about him. His honest, easy-going, intelligent and thoughtful way about him makes him a joy to watch. Watching him on his hunting trips makes me think of him as an (almost) domesticated wild cat. I say this about him in a good way. Like a cat that will instinctively hunt and kill birds and mice even though it is not hungry and to paw dangling string, I am convinced that if Steven was home and in his bed weak and sick with the flu, he would still unhesitatingly get the rifle that he keeps beside him to stalk and shoot any deer, squirrel or turkey that happens to wander across his backyard. But -- unlike a cat whose instinct is to kill prey even if not hungry -- Steven, as sick as he may be with the flu, would still manage (with a smile on his face) to prepare and serve to his family and his many friends a drop-dead delicious meal using whatever game he killed just hours earlier. (I refer to Steven as being almost domesticated because as much as he loves to be in the wild and to hunt, as is his passion, yet another part of his life has allowed him to love and marry an understanding wife and to be the father of three kids -- all of whom he hopes one day will grow up and love to hunt the way he has done and like his father before him.) While I am fortunate to have many good friends, I do envy those who are his friends. They are better as persons and fortunate because he is in their lives.
I've watched steve for years, I'm rewatching season 1 and prefer it to his newer work. My favorite episodes are at his cabin in alaska when he throws a bit of crab and shrimp fishing in the mix. Reading this comment moved me, God bless.
Just commenting to say you are an amazing writer! Wouldn't mind reading a book written by you, good structure and definitely got my attention to read it all. Hope all is well! That's all lol
Call is by far the most resource conscience of all at meat eater. In one of the pod cast he talks about fishing stuff out of the dumpster near his place.
I'm glad we have people like this representing us in public forums like this.. people who promote responsible and ethical practices, and show that there is more to being a hunter than bloodthirsty ignorance. thanks for the good work!
You're the man Mr. Calaghan! I love this content for taking breaks between online lectures. I'm a 3rd year studying Environmental Policy Analysis and Planning with a Conservation Tract at UC Davis, and I am in love with waterfowling in the Sacramento River Basin. It would be so great to see some more duck hunts, preferably on the public land this next season by the MeatEater Crew and friends. I would be happy to host.
its just the best feeling, waking up really early with your buddies to go hunting. Just the vibe and the expectation around the breakfast table is just soo amazing!
Decoy hunting always blows my mind... Imagine you are landing at a small airport and just before your plane touches down, you realize that every person you see is just a mannequin... Next thing you know your on a dinner table and apes are arguing over who gets your liver!! I can't wait to try it!! (hunting and foie-gras 😘)
Hey mr rinella , been a fan of urs for years. I hope ur doing great and ur family during these hard times. Ur def the most educated and most proper real hunter i know. To be honest if i met u id be star struck and i dont give a shit about celebrities or social media of any sort. Iv learned alot about u and from u and i grew up in the amazon with my father . I was born in buenos aires and been there and the iguasu falls since i was a child and i donteven hold a candle to what u know about hunting. God bless u and ur family and hope u live out ur days healthy and full of joy. I really mean that.
You DO NOT need all that hand movement to make all the meat calls you'll ever need to land birds. In fact your calling isnt even close to the top of the list of things that put birds on the ground. Hide, hide, hide are the first 3. Then your setup and spread and wind direction. Calling is maybe #5 or 6 out of a list of 10 things you need to kill geese. Lol
Awesome! I found goose breast in my freezer - I thought I was out! - so pastrami is in my future. Made hearts and gizzards just last week, though the biscuits and gravy look like a better use for the gizzards. I basically made the gizzards into skewers, along with the hearts. Turned out a little chewy, though the hearts were perfect. 4 more months until the September season!
I love Meateater and how you emphasize the beauty of the whole process. Can’t watch those kill shot vids anymore. That being said I wish you guys did more waterfowl episodes. It is the most popular type of hunting in the US and I feel it is proportionally lacking in your content.
I could just swear that I could smell what was coming from the kitchen! Fantastically clear videos and I enjoyed it very much as with my feet and legs anymore at 68 years old I would have to go hunting with a walker anymore!! Ha ha
I recommend a parang for clearing the field over garden snips it will make the work a bit faster. Awesome hunt, and love the german wirehair pointer. Thanks and keep up the fun work!
Love Canada goose hunting. To make a great appetizer that I can’t keep on a plate long enough to reach the table, breast them out, rinse in cold water. Then cut into chunks, wrap in bacon, toothpick them, grill them to medium rare. They are cooked perfect when the bacon is crispy. Phenomenal appetizer. You get just enough of that wild game flavor cut with the flavor of bacon. People with think it’s beef
You did right to wait; seen far too many geese, and some ducks, lost to impatience! Landing gear down=bird down! Really makes me miss Montana...time to come back home!
Meanwhile...on Planet MeatEater...not a single mention of COVID19 pandemic or the meat shortage crisis. Is this channel just on autopilot? I could not be more bored by it.
UK 🇬🇧 VIEWER! Love Steve, seems a nice humble guy. (Even his friends/guests seem cool people) Would love to go hunting with him just to see it in person
Every year waterfowl hunting gets tougher and tougher. They are slowly learning to adapt to cities & other populated places where they know they are safe.
That's much more the way goose hunting generally goes -- limits are the exception. But two fat geese is a nice bag, for sure! I also eat the giblets, but include the liver too -- which is the best part. Try it next time! Great video!
I’ve been hunting geese since I was 7 years old. I’ve never had the hearts or gizzards. Always wanted to try it, but my father vetoed. I’ll have to show him this!
ALOHA EVRY1 from Miles Nolte's home island of Oʻahu, Hawaiʻi. Great work, MeatEater team! No hunting any nēnē (Hawaiian goose), please. Take care & be well, my friend.
It’s amazing how, even plants we eat, Thrive on the dead tissues of animals administered through the soil. And Carnivorous Plants are in a world all their own. I love my Meat (and my health). 😋.
I've never wanted two dudes to close the deal so bad. Ol' Cal' stop humming into the call so much. Get rid of that buzz and your calling is killer. Have you ever heard a goose that buzzes when they honk? Love the vid.
Lmao. That buzz is exactly what you WANT. Grunting or growling into your call add tone to the calling. Been doing it for over 35 years. Any experienced caller knows this.
Never even thought about trying to clean up goose gizzards....after seeing how much meat you got off those 2? Gonna re-think that. Really no idea how to clean them up, but trial and error is often my way of learning anyway! Might start with ducks...though a bit afraid of their diet making things less....tasty. Legs? For Super Bowl I often take all my duck and goose legs and drop them in a crock pot with BBQ sauce, peppers, onions, and garlic...few hours later, one amazing half-time meal!
Another great fix for down jackets is "new skin", that liquid bandage stuff you can find in any first aid section of a pharmacy. Great for small holes and tears, and washable too. A trick I learned out in the Sierra Nevada.
at first i wouldnt watch any episodes without Rinella in them. if you are one of those people id definitely suggest otherwise. they have a great cast of characters and a lot of great guests. though to be fairthough Rinella is sort of a special breed of guy
I've never done it with a duck or goose, but we used to peel the inside of the gizzards when we butchered chickens. I imagine it would be a little easier than cutting it out, as far as saving meat goes
Fry them in butter until they just start to set up around the edges and then add a couple tablespoons of water to the pan and put a lid on it for a minute or two. The top steams so it's almost like a poached eggs but with the brown bits on the bottom like a fried egg.
Years of university, corporate offices... where did I go wrong!?! Advice: try those goose parts sous vide. A nice alternative to the pressure cooker because it doesn’t overcook.
I can relate to your predicament. My son and I were on a friend's farm, calling in ducks and the neighbour next farm over kept shooting the ducks before they got to us. We were doing all the calling and they were doing the shooting. We left without ducks that day. :(
I always love how MeatEater takes a realistic approach to hunting videos. It has ruined other hunting shows for me.
Agreed
I agree, although, the hunting public on UA-cam are another great channel to check out👍
Same here
Couldn't agree more. I try to watch other hunting shows and they just feel fake or leave me with an uneasy feeling pertaining to hunting ethics
I didn’t know there were other hunting shows. Meat eaters has been my one and only.
More hunting shows need to show the cooking of the wild game that hunters harvest, an important message for non-hunters to see
One without the other is no good, completely agree. Preparing the game is just as important as harvesting
I completely agree brother. I want to see more cooking, and I really wish that people understood better that you can take your trophy without being a "Trophy Hunter" the way the media portraits. Just cuz there's a head on the wall does not mean that the animal was not properly harvested for all it was worth. 🤯🔫
We’re watching the beginnings of an online outdoor entertainment empire in the making here folks! Thanks for the content while we’re all stuck inside!
Scott Brobeck yeah I’m stoked for more hunters afield. There’s too many tags, we need them filled. There aren’t enough roads for access for these activities, so let’s punch more roads in the woods. We need to keep turning the resource into a commodity to be exploited. It’s good for all of us!
Its already huge. Watch them on Netflix. Also visit the MeatEater website.
@DMc Family Outdoors It's what everyone wanted. More people to be outside, enjoying nature, hunting, doing what we do. We made fun of city folk and their grocery store meat. We are getting what we asked for.
I love watching Ryan Callahan u can tell that dude is authentic as they come love the series brothers keep it up

Well said
Just commenting to say you are an amazing writer! Wouldn't mind reading a book written by you, good structure and definitely got my attention to read it all. Hope all is well! That's all lol
God, Cal's such a good dude. Easily could get a new first lite coat, but he knows its mostly still good and just duct tapes the hole on the sleeve.
Call is by far the most resource conscience of all at meat eater. In one of the pod cast he talks about fishing stuff out of the dumpster near his place.
@@JordenLuke like a shit ton of cardboard, right?
Need more waterfowling content!! Excellent!

Cal is such a Humble, cool Guy!✌️
I know exactly where you guys are. 5 minutes from my old house 🏡. Love to see it
Good work, as always. This city boy will hunt one day.
Goose hunting is one of the most fun yet frustrating types of hunting there is IMO. It’s dumb and I love it
Meat eater is the greatest brand on social media.
I'm from Canada, and I'm glad our neighbors to the south enjoy these beautiful birds as much as we do!
So glad to hear them throw some bad notes! Makes me feel less like an amateur!

I live half a mile away from this field, drive past it every day. Love to see this.

Blood on the knuckle when calling, let's you know theres no hair and makeup in Meateater! Cheers Meateater!
The man, the myth, the mustache. Dudes a badass
I love Meateater and how you emphasize the beauty of the whole process. Can’t watch those kill shot vids anymore. That being said I wish you guys did more waterfowl episodes. It is the most popular type of hunting in the US and I feel it is proportionally lacking in your content.
Hey guys. Love the vids! As a Chef Is love to see more of the cooking-eating vids to close all the episodes
Best hunting show out there! Great stuff guys!
I could just swear that I could smell what was coming from the kitchen! Fantastically clear videos and I enjoyed it very much as with my feet and legs anymore at 68 years old I would have to go hunting with a walker anymore!! Ha ha
Man this gets me wanting fall. Being in ND waterfowling is my whole hunting season till deer. Just hearing those birds gets my heart to skip a beat.
Love the water foul hunting!!! Keep the content coming!!
7:48 Homeboy is like, "I'm gonna need you to repeat that...."
I love this because after watching all these hunting vid where they are killing it this is how a good day would go for me lol
Was getting some real 'Runescape' vibes from the background music when that pair started circling. Great vid as always
Can't wait for more episodes!
I recommend a parang for clearing the field over garden snips it will make the work a bit faster. Awesome hunt, and love the german wirehair pointer. Thanks and keep up the fun work!
Hey Ryan, G'day from Karratha West Australia. Love your videos, keep up the great work mate.
Love Canada goose hunting. To make a great appetizer that I can’t keep on a plate long enough to reach the table, breast them out, rinse in cold water. Try marinating in some Korean bbq sauce for a few hours first. Enhances the beefy flavor and helps remove the irony taste that some people dont like.
Open spaces like the field behind my work... I could literally club them they are so confident and sassy
Great episode. Realistic and they eat it! Need a tour of all those signs hanging up!
UK 🇬🇧 VIEWER! Love Steve, seems a nice humble guy. (Even his friends/guests seem cool people) Would love to go hunting with him just to see it in person
Great video, from hunting ,and nature are amazing too.. Best regards from Canada .✌🍁💕🐻🐺🦌🍁👌
Love the waterfowl content. As well as turkey. Need more of both
Great Show Guys!
Every year waterfowl hunting gets tougher and tougher. They are slowly learning to adapt to cities & other populated places where they know they are safe.
Need to open a urban waterfowl hunting season
love hunting honkers ... this is a great video
Love all of you guys!
That's much more the way goose hunting generally goes -- limits are the exception. But two fat geese is a nice bag, for sure! I also eat the giblets, but include the liver too -- which is the best part. Try it next time! Great video!
I love the videos. I thought the book meat eater was amazing. It has inspired me to try hunting
I’ve been hunting geese since I was 7 years old. I’ve never had the hearts or gizzards. Always wanted to try it, but my father vetoed. I’ll have to show him this!
The new MeatCrafter knife you designed with Benchmade is awesome.
Enjoyed it...Mahalo and Aloha from the Big Isle "🤙"
I love you shows
Hopefully there's more of these in the future
Now that's how we should eat. That's some delicious food
That ending hurts to watch. That looks so delicious.
gonna have to put in a little work on those calls homey;) Love the vids.
Public land skybusters that show up at sunrise just sit 100yrds away and blast at birds working your decoys is every darn day here in Ohio.
Yep
ALOHA EVRY1 from Miles Nolte's home island of Oʻahu, Hawaiʻi. Great work, MeatEater team! No hunting any nēnē (Hawaiian goose), please. Take care & be well, my friend.
I know it's hard, but you guys need to do more east coast dense woods (which is what I hunt). All this open space hunting makes me jealous.
Great example of tagging a bonded pair!
In Canada we have to walk around these damn geese, meanwhile my man is setting up elaborate decoy birds, blinds, and using goose calls
I live on the Bighorn river 50 miles away from billings and we smack em every morning
Its really awesome👍
Some of that calling made my skin crawl. Lol
Blowing a Foiles Strait Meat Honker, niiiiiice!
It’s amazing how, even plants we eat, Thrive on the dead tissues of animals administered through the soil. And Carnivorous Plants are in a world all their own. I love my Meat (and my health). 😋.
Cal would make such a great housewife! He can do everything! Look at those perfect eggs!
Makes me miss hunting season!!!,!,
Good job guys.
I've never wanted two dudes to close the deal so bad. Ol' Cal' stop humming into the call so much. Get rid of that buzz and your calling is killer. Have you ever heard a goose that buzzes when they honk? Love the vid.

Bout damn time for some waterfowl!
I listen to your podcasts
I'm not much on the innards but goose leg chili is fantastic. September 1st cant come soon enough.
Nice camera work on that pair!!!
It makes me so happy to see Cal using some duct tape to hold in some down feathers on his jacket.
Another great fix for down jackets is "new skin", that liquid bandage stuff you can find in any first aid section of a pharmacy. Great for small holes and tears, and washable too. A trick I learned out in the Sierra Nevada.
Great video.
Gizzards heart LIVER dirty rice!
I wish Bryan Callen could be on every trip. I miss his stories.
Great video!!! Ill definitely try this recipe. Cookin with Cal
at first i wouldnt watch any episodes without Rinella in them. if you are one of those people id definitely suggest otherwise. they have a great cast of characters and a lot of great guests. though to be fairthough Rinella is sort of a special breed of guy
Finally waterfowl hunting!!!
I've never done it with a duck or goose, but we used to peel the inside of the gizzards when we butchered chickens. I imagine it would be a little easier than cutting it out, as far as saving meat goes
Looks like a blast, I want to go
Blowing a Foiles Strait Meat Honker. Good boy.
Half of us are just waiting for you to post a wolf hunting video!😂
Crew Clark no kidding😂
Exactly! They will soon, or at least they need to soon
Is that a Wirehaired Pointing Griffon at 2:56? Club dog?
My goodness cal, u must of had 12 decoys out there. Crazy that every goose in the county didnt bomb in
I need a description on "Mile's Famous Slightly Poached Fried Eggs" technique man!!!
Fry them in butter until they just start to set up around the edges and then add a couple tablespoons of water to the pan and put a lid on it for a minute or two. The top steams so it's almost like a poached eggs but with the brown bits on the bottom like a fried egg.
The Tash is back!
Your meal looked awesome
This video is strikingly similar to how most of my hunts go.
Years of university, corporate offices... where did I go wrong!?!
Advice: try those goose parts sous vide. A nice alternative to the pressure cooker because it doesn’t overcook.
here in ontario Canada geese are like pigeons, you can't go anywhere without seeing them,
Would Love To Get Into Hunting Always Wanted To But I Dont Know Anybody That Hunts Or How To Even Start But I Love The Show Steve
Where you from
Love all the old advertisement signs , shows my age
What would it take to go on a hunting trip with your company? Love your show and this channel!
Owen Franke they could take me as a camp sitter and mule and I’d still be smiling ear to ear all trip lol
Ok what's in the Mason jar you added on top? looks like my grandmother's cabbage relish.
I can relate to your predicament. My son and I were on a friend's farm, calling in ducks and the neighbour next farm over kept shooting the ducks before they got to us. We were doing all the calling and they were doing the shooting. We left without ducks that day. :(
Que bueno casado y cocinado!!
