  • Alice Cooper School's Out with Guest Orianthi 8/12/18 LA Greek Theater
    ===========================================================
What I have written below is part of my experience during that nights’ Meet and Greet with Alice Cooper. To me, it showed a normal family-man side of him. I waffled a long time whether or not I should post this as it may cause a bunch (more) of Ori vs. Nita comments. As always, rude comments will be removed. Not-so flattering comments are welcome….just be an adult about it.
When it was my turn to meet Alice (I was second), I sat next to him and told him “awesome show as always and what an incredible surprise ending”. He said “yeah, it’s a family affair. Calico (his daughter) was the vampire person. My wife plays the ballerina and nurse. We had Ori,” (now he rises from his chair and addresses everyone in the room, and in a louder voice, he asks) “Everybody see Ori?” (the room erupts with applause and comments along the lines of “that was so cool”). Alice, looking downward and appears to be in profound thought, raises his head and says “I just had the two best female guitarists onstage together” and the tone of his voice was like a proud papa talking about his kids. He sat back down and focused on me and said (paraphrasing now) “…I contacted her about 5 hours ago (it was now about 11pm), I said we gotta make this happen”. We chatted more, but I thought it was so cool that he spoke of Ori and Nita that way as in no favoritism. My wife and I left the Meet and Greet happy campers only for me to stumble into a huge bonus.
As we were leaving, the Greek was desolate except for a couple people standing at the curb talking. To my amazement, one of them was Ori. I waited for a lull in their conversation and cut in. I thanked her for the amazing treat of playing on stage with them again. We had some small talk ending with a selfie of me and her (my camera). I knew nothing of Ori other than Nita replaced her a few years earlier. My impression of her was very friendly, easy to talk to, cute and brave. I say brave because she put her arm around me for the selfie. I wouldn’t even put my arm me! A regular SUV stops at the curb with an average lady driving, window rolls down and Ori says my ride’s here (to the other guy that was with her). She places her guitar in the car, hops in and they drive off. No limo, no party van, no loud music from the pick up vehicle….it was such a non-rock and roll departure. I thought it was kind of sad she left by herself (not with the rest of the band). After I got home, I regretted that I didn’t tell her of Alice and his “proud papa” moment. She must know he’s proud of her, but it would have been nice to hear from a complete stranger that he speaks of her so highly. If Ori ever read this and had a thing for insignificant facts, she would know that the last person she took a picture with at the Greek Theater that night is the same guy that shot this video.

I love the way Nita invited Orianthi to sing the chorus, sharing the same microphone. There´s no envy or bad vibes. And the way Alice presented them.. like a proud daddy with his daughters!

Dio, Ozzy & Alice tienen esa rara virtud de descubrir músicos alucinantes. Cuando ves estos shows, se parecen mucho más a una familia que una superbanda. Y el respeto infinito de Alice, conmueve. El último mohicano.

I was at this concert at The Greek a few years ago. Nita and Orianthi were spectacular for this finale. I see Alice every time he hits L.A…. I must have seen him 30 times since I first saw him in 1971 when idiots in the audience were calling him awful names… but even back then he was the real deal performer. By the time he played “Under My Wheels” he had them won over. Will be seeing him and Nita again in April.

I think that has to with the fact that the tunes are fairly easy and Alice never really pushed his range, so his voice is still great even at his age. So of his covers with the vampires are really good.

I saw Alice years about 10 years ago at Wembley Arena. The music was spectacularly presented with a glorious lightshow as well as the great man himself, so professional. I had been a fan for many years, having been blown away on seeing 'School's Out' on Top of the Pops at the age of 13 in 1972. I always fancied him over the more popular squeaky clean Donny Osmond. My parents were not quite so sure I had my priorities right, but I was conscious of the street cred of heavy rock. Only years later did I wonder how much Alice had deliberately borrowed his image from Arthur Brown. I did what I suppose I can only call a bump and grind routine dressed as a St Trinian's sixth former for my 40th birthday party in 1999, which I still have on video. I was aware of Alice's golf prowess for some time now. I always enjoy his perceptive comments on other bands whenever I see him on TV shows. May he live longer in real life than he does on 'Welcome to My Nightmare'!

I'm a lifelong rock musician who's 71 now too. I first saw Cooper and his band at The Crazy Horse (barn turned into a fabulous rock club) in my hometown, Kalamazoo, when they were on their first tour. A very unique show at the time, to be sure. I was not only 18 at the time, but I was also playing that song in my road band in Michigan. I saw him in concert again at the vintage State Theatre in Kalamazoo in the 1990s. Loved everything about the show except the snake. As an animal activist, I have to say: "Leave the snake out of the act, Alice. A high-decibel rock stage is nowhere for a snake to be."

I was there. Going again tomorrow for the same lineup Alice and Ace Frehley. Shame poor Nita hurt her knee.

nita says there are alice fans who misunderstand what happened on why orianthi left the group and nita replaced her!! people accuse nita of stealing orianthi's job which is 100% untrue !! orianthi has never actually quit the band she just wanted to move on and do her own solo projects that she had no time to do while working in the band. As you can clearly see here orianthi is welcome to leave and come back whenever she wants to!! nita says she and orianthi are good friends who like hanging out together whenever they get the chance!!

Thanks for writing this! I’ve never understood why people want to put these two against each other. They are both truly amazing guitar players with different styles - both beyond dedicated and talented. Back in the day it wasn’t always easy being a female guitar player because it used to be more of a man’s world, but it warms my heart seeing these two playing their hearts out and supporting each other. What they are doing is hard work, but make it look easy. They don’t need the drama fans like to start. They aren’t and have never been competing with one another. They are supportive of each other, and friends. Love them both!

Incredible. Orianthi is brilliant, but Nita brings that next-level energy. Both on the same stage? Only Alice has the confident charisma to rein in those twin lionesses of tone.
Has anyone ever attended an Alice Cooper show and left saying “I didn’t get my money’s worth” or “I wasn’t entertained”?

I think he should do it just once. Just think of the stage show he could bring when it doesn't have to be mobile and built up and torn down after each show...

Ori is a revolution in Coop history. His "little Babushka" quickly became - not only lead guitarist after maestro S. Hunter - but a true fandarling too.
Yes, it's a shame, really. But it was her choice. Regretful? Probably yes. Back to Coop? Who knows...
In any case, she's an exceptionally versatile and fine guitar player.

I am pretty certain Ori paved the way for Nita Strauss. Not that Nita isnt a good guitarist in her own right, but Coop had never had a female band member before in its proper sense before Ori.
When the time came for replacement I can only assume he took any female applicant as serious as any male, and I dont think there is anything you can say about that other than that is a good thing.
