The idea of pushing the h pawn and sacrificing the Rook for the Knight to open up the position is not completely new, if I'm not mistaken Carlsen himself already adopted this idea. Anyway, a superbly played game with a truly powerful attack! Fantastic Robert!! 👍 Marco EarlyJaques P.S. Robert, would you have played this line also against a strong GM?
Very nice. The early rook sac reminds me of a Pragg-Magnus game. Pragg did this, and could have destroyed Magnus in 16 moves, but the goat survived to draw, if I remember correctly… ☺️🙏
Verified by Lichess database, this system favours white. After rook sac on h-file, 57% winrate for white vs 40% for black in almost 500 games played. Thanks Robert, this is just great :-). Finally knows how to handle so called modern defence.
First, instead of h6 & Nd7, Black should have played Qf6 then Qg6 then get the Queen side Knight & Bishop out & castle queenside. Second, Black could have blocked the h pawn earlier (instead of Nf6) with h5. However, clearly this is a brutal attack no matter what Black does. Black’s forth move a6 clearly wasted a precious tempo.
@@tobias4411 True, but Stockfish 16 on move 5, recommends the blockading h5 in reply h4. That said, many players would play 5… Nf6 daring White to push h5 & sac the exchange. This was a brilliant & well-played game. Still instead of h6, Black should have gone for the Qf6-g6 maneuver. He didn’t & got stuck in the center. White resolute attack in not letting Black slip away or mix it up is most instructive! Bravo!
@@ThortheMerciless True. The kingside attack is brutal, unless one plays like Stockfish. I play the Modern & always blockade a h4 thrust with h5. Stockfish prefers h5 in reply to h4 & it’s the most practical reply to the so-called “150” attack, even though it weakens g5. Stockfish then follows up with O-O & lashes out on the queenside. Most human players of the Modern prefer to lash out on the Queenside first & castle kingside only if necessary. Magnus has played it that way too. Undoubtably, the h pawn attack is one of the most testing & difficult set ups for Black to handle as the crushing & well-executed attack of the instructive game highlighted in this video amply demonstrates.

A beautiful attacking game Robert. We have one modern player at the club. He will soon be meeting an early exchange sac. Thank you.
Nice game. I'd like to see more of your tournament game analysis, keep up the good work!
Very impressive game Robert, well done.
Excellent victory, congratulations
Your excitement about this game is justified.
Beautiful game. Congrats
Awesome game with nonstop pressure after the early exchange sac.
Beautiful game!
Thank you, the pawn is the key
Fantastic ideas against the Modern and I LOVE the zero development off the rook with h4. Very nice instructive game Robert!
Thx 🙏🏼

You played really well. So interesting to see what is possible for a lower rated player.

Mooie partij, Robert!
well, not going to play the Modern anymore. Thanks for helping me understand that opening.
You‘re welcome
Maybe Queen f6 instead of h6 is Best idea Qg6

Yes, but blacks forth move a6 is actually the best move says Stockfish...

After 9...Qf6 10.Bd3 Qg6 11.Qh2 (threat e5) White stands better than in the game.

Interesting game a6 is tempo loss and g6 is weakening the g7. You should play more with your tactical abilities.
Well it’s a theory anyway…
