I think back in the day, if someone lacked serotonin and there were no SSRI‘s, they became a fairytale writer. I used to love this story when I was a kid, but I had forgotten how grim it is. And yet it somehow seems to describe my life and my relationship with my late husband, with me as the soldier. I’ve been feeling his loss something terrible for the past couple of weeks, not that I ever forget about him, and I keep hoping that I can find a way ahead. Or maybe I’ll just melt into a lump in the shape of a heart. My husband used to wake up way too early and he’d get up and go for a walk and then come back in and go back to bed and sleep for a few more hours. If it was winter, he’d get up and exercise inside, and do the same, and it worked. By the way, Donovan put out an album where he set nursery rhymes and a few poems to music (including the little tin soldier and one of my favorite Yeats’ poems) and it’s a gorgeous album. It’s called HMS Donovan. The artwork on the cover is fabulous and so is the music. I think it’s a double album if I remember correctly. He even set Jabberwocky and the Walrus and the Carpenter to music (well, the latter is more of a strange reading.) I hope your tennis match went well. Have a medieval nap afterwards! Thank you, Gemma! 💕💕
Well met as always. I am also haunted by memories of my late husband who genuinely loved me, and my dog, who died the same day as his mum, a lovely person named Helen. On her birthday I still make the apple crisp that Teddy loved so much that she made. Simple things. His brother was killed by persons unknown on their way to school; he declined a ride in a pickup truck which decided his family's fate as he saw it. It wasn't his fault; he was a child. His brother was never found. He couldn't sleep unless he held on to me and I who can't sleep unless I'm unencumbered, would wait until his breathing was even and gently disengage. Everyone of us is irreplaceable. I, predictablly ... we have a lot in common, did have the Donovan album btw and what else is new, continue to read Yeats. The frightening premonitions he had e.g. "the centre cannot hold/the best are silent while the worst are full of passionate intensity ... my paraphrase ... I set beside his vision of a quiet life; 9 bean rows have I planted. I lost my library in a fire and have been gradually replacing cherished books. The LPs sadly are no more so tx for a wonderful reminder.❤❤I did find echoes of him in the late Tom Petty I know a kindred spirit so I think of Wildflowers of course because Teddy is gone, but the whole catastrophe to quote whoever wrote the book Zorba, which includes, let's get real, some of the loudest music ever made to quote TP. xxx
My sleep is all over the place as I do shift work. Enjoy your tennis 🎾 and thank you for reading to us 💖 from Australia 🇦🇺 xx
Yes!!! to the fireside chats. Someone very dear to me from New Zealand; reason my dog is named Kiwi 💕💕🐶🐶🛴🛴🎶🎶😊😊
The little kid in this big kids body, loved that you read to us! Truly touched my heart thank you
Our own love for someone something …”passion” brings us through / creates light in the darkness …. I believe
My favorite quote from Leonard Cohen: we are all broken: that's how the light gets in.
I generally get pulled out of bed around 4am with something I have to write- like it won’t let me sleep until I write it. My daughter is 9 - she often goes to sleep early and wakes at midnight- stays up until 3-4am then naps another 3 hours- she might have a medieval pastlife ❤ thank you for the story!
It's Lunch Time Here, I'm Having Some Chips And Then Notice " Oh That's A Freddy Mercury Charlie Brown Crossover T Shirt! "
I know - whoever thought of that is pure genius ! 🤭
@@Gemstonetarot OMG Freddy Mercury the sound track of Good Omens tx to Brian May; 1985 huge concert: Freddy M. was literally "the note heard round the world." Shivers.
Yes wake at 3am and its 447am right now in Australia. 🙂 Drinking Coffee 🙃
I used to sleep lightly. As a single mom, I was always on alert protecting my cub cats kids or 3 little girls.
Now I have discovered I suffer from sleep apnea. So I wear a hose attached to my nose like a little elephant. I live alone so I dont really mind because ...you know... BREATHING!😅Occasionally, I do find the hose stuck to my forehead blasting air or hung on the bedpost😮 so sexy❤😂🤪🤣🤣🤣
What a great story for the 10 Swords, I think I'll always associate it a bit with the Tin Soldier now, which really makes it that much nicer. For sure linked to the context. With the 10 of Swords you only see the yellow background, not even a sun, and you know that the cycle is over because you are lying pretty dead on the ground, but this story connects the end of the cycle very positive with the heart..❣
I'm Up and begin my morning @ 3ish quiet alone time, I think better .
But, now, it's Pint time, in Roswell NM.🛸🛸🛸🛸
Those stories were regiuar reading fare before my daughter went to sleep. How many of them brought tears to my eyes, and The Steadfast Tin Soldier one of them, allows that 10 of Swords 💙💙
That’s lovely 🙏🩷🩷
@@Gemstonetarot Yes indeed! My Dad used to read us to sleep and on occasion, play the guitar. I mentioned the Velveteen Rabbit because it was part of his repertoire. xxx
Thank you Gemma 🙏❤️✨
Hello Gemma I’ve just had my birthday yesterday….on the 10th July. ❤xx
happy birthday!
Happy birthday to you 🎂 🍾🎈🎁🥳💖xx
I went to Dublin yesterday to meet pen pal. Had to get up at 4.30 am and didn't get to sleep until gone 2.00 am today. Back up at 6 ( usual time for getting up ). Tired today 😂😂. Both penpal and I have sleep issues and often have broken sleep and wake around 3.00 am. Not always able to go back to sleep.
Love this Gemma. I found it to hit how life can be on so many levels.
Thank you! Blessings 🫶🫶🫶🐱🌠🌠🌠🧚♀️
I work nights so have had 4 hours sleep today and now off to work again. 😅😴😴
Whew! That’s quite a story! I grew up listening to Hans Christian Anderson stories told on records and loved them. I don’t remember this one, though … perhaps it was too grim to record for children. I feel this selection perfectly depicts the 10 of Swords and really like the transformative aspect of melting into a tin heart … the alchemy of a grueling situation. Thanks, Gemma, and hope you have a great time at tennis!❤🙏😊🌟🌼
For those that like to read there is a book by Robert Ekrich, At Days Close: Night in Times Past
* Roger,not Robert
Will look out for it.

100% resonated. Especially as a Scorps going through a change in life
Yes waking up in the wee small hours to do just that 😂😂😂
Well, keeping with the solider theme, I'm going to finish watching 'Othello' before I go out this afternoon.
I absolutely can't resist; bedbound today so replying. Lawrence Fishbourne was disappointing, I'm an old lady so in 1981 James Earl Jones as Othello in New York with Christopher Plummer Iago totally blew me away. Totally majestic. Ditto Patrick Stewart as Macbeth. I saw David Tennant and thought yes this is seriously good really like this thoughtful actor but benchmarks ,... ❤❤
@@EvelynBaron Ooh. Christopher Plummer as Iago would have been worth seeing! I've been watching on the British National Theatre website. I may need chocolate ice cream to properly recover.
I watched the actor Christopher Eccleston on boring morning telly today. He actually made it interesting, and talked about local libraries and how much books had to offer. …. I keep waking at about 2 am, I actually woke thinking of “The magic Far Away tree”….. remember that book? I loved it as a kid. I think it had a Mrs kettle pot or someone? X
The day before fourth of July here i was so pooped from getting three-four hours of sleep throughout the week . Then I awoke like 1:30am with nothing to do . super refreshed but a lil restless .There's times of the year where i can wake up around 4 am and have thee best sleep at 6am when the world is waking
!!!! That’s only one possible analysis of the “ tin soldier Going to play tennis sounds like a good idea !
My birthday. 😂❤ ♋️ 🦀
Happy birthday 🎉❤🎂
I imagine they woke up because it got cold when the fire went out, or when the candle burnt out. A new nice fire and you can go back to sleep. Or some woke up to cook, didnt they have a pot over the fire at all times, just adding more to it, so the fire needs to burn because food is always cooking on it, prepare the pot of everything, meat and veg, and go back to sleep, then wake up again to the aroma of the food being done!
It actually goes back as far as hunter/gathers so ... yes.
Hi Gemma, Thank you! Making Curtains💕🌸🌿✨
Thank you, Gemma!!
Love the artwork of the cards. I also enjoyed the story of the tin man. Although it was sad and interesting, and even though the end was so tragic, loved how he melted into a heart. I’m working and waiting for my coffee to be ready (French press) so I can enjoy a couple Biscoff cookies 🍪 with it.😁😋
Sometimes I try to take a “nap” that ends up throwing my whole sleep schedule off because what was supposed to be a 20-30 min nap turns into 5-8 hours. Then I’m up from midnight until the end of my next work shift and since I’ve been up so long I knock out again and continue the vicious cycle 😅 at least I catch up on reading.
I had a lovely affair with a guy who was always rescuing my sister long story, he would put her in a cab which he paid for and say ... go home. Ancient history however at one moment in time we crossed paths and have remained friends off and on, he made coffee the old fashioned italian way on the stove (serious espresso too strong for me but the smell was very heaven Lovely comment! And too much info from me; he was really great in bed. Years later my sis ran into him and he asked about me and she spoke against herself in this anecdote: oh, Evelyn is going through hard times etc. and he replied, "your sister is a saint what did you do to her??' Good for my sis whom I still miss although we no longer speak and that was one of the great memories of all time (part of it definitely speaking blue).
I ❤❤❤ your shirt!!!
Wow, I commented before I listened to the video. 😢😢 That was my day yesterday, crying because of my toxic job. 😢😢
Thank you. Love that t-shirt, you have many new ones! Yes, it is Friday the 12th, we seem to be missing the 13th. I was totally confused about the date, did get in a short pre-rain hike in the woods, the native plants are in bloom, so glorious there. It is now 1:15 pm and I shall soon make my coffee with frothed cashew milk. My sleep has been disrupted recently, but I couldn't get up or I would not be able to go back to sleep.
I am also very confused about the dates - I’m just having to surrender to the confusion ! 🙏🩷⭐️
The tin soldier was adapted for one of the shorts in Fantasia 2 (I love Disney's Fantasia series)
I've also been waking up for a long time at random times at night, and I force myself back to sleep because I feel like I need to get the sleep, but maybe I'll try staying up or an hour or so to see what creative genius happens 😂
Listening to the rain 💜
Thanks Gemma 😁
“That’s soothing….” Hahahaha!
Cave times, more like the industrial revolution! Clocks were only synchronized during the industrial revolution. That's when the need arose for masses to be at work (aka the train station and factory) at a certain time. That's when we stopped waking mid-night. Very fun fact.
My cats are acting soooo strange today and I woke up at 4 a.m. , got up, ate breakfast because I was sooo hungry... napped , then ate something again around 9 a.m. This is weird for me!!!! Now, it's 12:00, noon, Canada, and I'm eating lunch. Will have a coffee, which I rarely do as it can sometimes affect my digestion...but I really want one! Lol!
I've toyed around with segmented sleeping a few times in my life, just because my circadian rhythms are always a hot mess (I have Delayed Sleep Phase Syndrome -- so I tend to sleep from around 5:00 or 6:00 AM until early afternoon or so -- so I'm up at 3:00 every night, because I've not even gone to bed yet LOL!).
I do have two friends that do segmented sleeping every day, though, and have for years and love it! It's definitely interesting!
And yeah, I've definitely heard conjecture about people waking up in the middle of the night being because of needing to keep watch at night in the olden days. But also people who needed to stay up ALL NIGHT on watch way back then, might be the ancestors of night owls like me. Who knows!
🦉 🩷 🌙
This past week has had a strange energy, almost oppressive. And yet, nothing so terrible has happened. It feels like something slipped through my fingers, yet I have no idea what or who. So yes, 10 of swords seems fitting. Hoping for a change soon ❤️🩹
And the ten resets to an Ace. 💕
Love the stalwart core of Gemma's finest my friend. Tx for comment you always cheer me up.❤❤
Gemma Italo Calvino, I loved that guy brought out Italian Folktales the yr of my birth, 1956. It was 600 pages long (I actually have a copy it's brilliant and not for the faint of heart or Disney lovers). The origins of modern folktales .... one example without looking stuff up; Sleeping Beauty was not kissed but impregnated by whomever became Prince Charming and it gets worse from there ... UA-cam would have a nervous breakdown. Oscar Wilde one of my heroes ('to love myself is the beginning of a lifetime romance') was heavily influenced by H.C. Anderson who actually made his stories up. xxx
UA-cam would have a breakdown! Weirdly, I listened to an Italo Calvino short story really early this morning from the New Yorker podcast. God it was good 🙏🩷📚
Woke up after three hours sleep and struggling to get back to sleep so thought I'd watch this video to see if there was a birthday message. After watching the intro I had goose bumps.
Is it your birthday - hope I’ve not missed it - either way - happy birthday! 🎁🎊🎂🎈🥰🥳
Yes it was my birthday on the 12th. Thank you xx
Last Sunday I woke up at 3:30 in the morning, heart racing and felt like something was wrong... went back to sleep around 5. At 7AM a little bird was pecking at my window and woke me up. At 9 AM a friend called to tell me that one of our other good friends had passed away during the night.
An augury. You must have had a deep connection 🙏⭐️🩷⭐️🙏
Your hair looks beautiful! 🥰
I noticed her hair looks especially good today..
@@gloriastroedecke2717 I know these comments are written from love. But I have a friend who was incredibly beautiful ... think Joanna Lumley my generation. my friend hated it. She loved my Dad because he respected her and I appreciated a remark I found true possibly of all women: Rebecca West, Black Lamb, Grey Falcon. She was a reporter, in the 30s and 40s and eventually recorded the Nuremburg trials. She was sitting in the plaka in Dubrovnik and her colleague approached, "And the men looked past her at her beauty". You of course said nothing wrong but that sentence as a woman stuck with me.
I like that fairytale❤. Its so nice when you read to us!🙏🏽🩷
Yeah what did they call medieval people pre-industrial or broke. It couldn't have been Renaissance or Tudors nah. How's my day so far should you dare ask. I went to bed last night at 1:30 the temperature was 108 or 110 f. Of what very little sleep I had, awakening to a spider crawling on me - don't worry he's dead. I smashed him into the bug heaven. Then my phone started overheating so I threw it in the freezer - works now. I finally went back to bed sometime after 6:00 and got back up around 8:00 it's going to be another hot day 44 centigrade with humidity. 😅
Thoughly. Bummed Now...😅
Maybe, at 3am, they naturally awakened, then stoked the dying fire, brrr. Perfect timing.
🔥 💤🌙
Your hair looks lovely today.

Have you seen apples don't fall with Annette Benning? It centers around a tennis playing family, lies and deception and is a comedy. I watch on prime.😂😂😂
Hey Gemma, it’s been a while since we have seen the tiara…
💜
The card made me laugh so hard. I’m thinking oh this is going to lift my spirits and it did cause I was just thinking how tragic of a day that little tin soldier made from the same spoon Had 🫣🫨 so very tragic sometimes you just gotta laugh thinking oh it couldn’t get any worse and I’ve learned never to say that!
