    I noticed that your Manley frames have narrow bottom bars like for hoffman frame. Why not the wider bottom bars that's usually with Manley and would the wider bottom bar not give a more level cut in line with the width of the top bar?

    • @gwenyngruffydd
      @gwenyngruffydd  2 роки тому

      They are wider than normal ones. Their the ones that come with the thorne frames.

    Hi Gryff... what is the tank that your wax is falling into?? Does this melt the wax and separate the honey? Please and thanks for all your very informative videos....they are great help to me here at Muff honey

      Hi Alain,
      It’s a Carl Fritz apimelter. Melts the wax and separates the honey. It’s an amazing machine.
      I did a review video on it a few years ago.

    I see you have commercial and national frames, like myself. In the future if you were to expand and needed a bigger uncapper what type would you get that would fit both sizes

    • @gwenyngruffydd

      Good question, I’m going to stay away from a fully automatic uncapper machine for as long as I can. I think il get another apimelter and hot knife and employ someone to extract with me once I get to a certain size. I like simple and primitive 😊

    Got one of these...its about 50 years old and I see the design is unchanged since then...it has lain in our attic since the late 80s.I see the same issue we had initially..of the cappings remaining adhering to the comb...still happens. Be really careful. If honey gets into the guts of the machine it all overheats and gums up and needs repairing. Looking at it again as the Dakota puts too much fine brash into the system, but only short term until we get a better high volume system working.

    • @gwenyngruffydd
      @gwenyngruffydd  2 роки тому

      Yes that’s correct, it is a slow job but cheap compared to other machines.
      Thanks for the heads up with honey going in.
      Saw this unit with Ricky Wilson few years ago and purchased it off his recommendation.
      What’s a Dakota?

      @@gwenyngruffydd A Dakota Gunness. Its a big flail uncapper from the USA. Does the combs very fast. Not fond of Manley frames though especially if getting a bit old and shonky......or the ones they sometimes make with cedar offcuts which are weaker. (splits them up the groove like chopsticks unless you keep the flails as slow as possible but still effective. The machine itself has been with us for quite some years now and works a treat, have not even had to replace a single flail in its lifetime. The reason we are looking at other options now is that we get too much very fine brash coming all the way through the system that...in the calluna only...is hard to separate out as it stays in suspension rather than rise to the top as it does with non thixotropic honey. Yes we could heat and filter, but our customer base wants the bulk honey unheated some hmf is as near zero as possible, so we sell semi filtered rather than bottling ready. Last couple of years a couple of the main buyers have changed their systems and the fine brash is now an issue it was not up until now...so now WE have to amend our system. Only looking for a short term fix as in the next couple of years we will be moving and putting in place a line that stops this issue, rendering the Dakota redundant (and thus the brash issue) anyway.. More likely to be more labour and multiple hot knives is a simple blade uncapper at reasonable cost cannot be found. Doing over 100t wit hand knives is a daunting prospect....

      That’s really interesting….didn’t even now a machine like that existed! Must be similar to the rotary brush uncappers?
      What brand of line are you thinking of putting in? No doubt will be a very impressive setup!
      In your opinion what’s the best method of uncapping? I have seen a few setups over the years. (Appreciate our scales are worlds apart!) I have seen the automatic uncappers but they still require a good scrape with the fork anyway. I don’t think I would gain time by having one. And my frames are a mix between SN4 & Manley.
      I know David’s crew do it by hand unless they have purchased a machine recently.
      But this machine is slow and so is a fork or knife. But ok for my scale.
      Really interesting in your take on it.
      100t+ not many people can say that in the U.K. credit to you and your team.
      I suppose you could rotate the staff through the day to keep them fresh!

    Love your videos mate, Greetings from Australia. I need to get my label sorted, watched other vids of yours but still have some questions. Are the tamper stickers seperate, what's the cost of each sticker, and do you know of a 100mm width colour thermal printer that is affordable. Templates and graphic design. I keep hitting a wall when searching for answers. Nice uncapper I want one.

    • @gwenyngruffydd
      @gwenyngruffydd  3 роки тому

      Hi!
      Our tampers are a separate sticker. Not sure of the cost per sticker we buy them in a few thousand at a time.
      We don’t print any labels we get them all made. We use a local printing company. Always easy to work with someone just down the road.
      Hope this helps
