@@10thgenerationdairyman61 Yeah its a hefty chunk of change. We own it with our uncle and cousins so its chopping for both dairy farms. Cost of getting it custom done and cost of machine are not much different. Timing of getting the crop harvested makes it pay.
@@rmddairyfarm1426 yeah that is the key, you need to be able to chop when that crop is ready. Thankfully we have a very reliable custom guy that almost always comes when we need it. If that wasn't the case I'd consider owning one.

We will chop around 1000 ac this spring between tritical, clover and alfalfa. Usually make 5 crops of alfalfa. Corn silage 15,000 - 17,000 ton.
