Hello, I'm new to your channel. And I'm just getting to know working with fondant. First, I would try simple figurines (from molds). I would put those figurines on the bottom of the edge of the cake and around the cake (seaweed, seashells...) The cake will be coated with butter cream. I would like to know if I put these figurines on the (cooled) cake immediately after making them, or if these figurines should be dried before putting them on the cake, do they need any special treatment? And one more question 🌞.. After I place those fondant figurines on the cake, can everything be in the refrigerator (overnight).. until the next day or would it be better to place the figurines on the cake, a few hours before serving..? Thank you very much.😍
@@nenakolobaric8088 Hi there! Good questions. Answer to first question: This really depends on if you want your fondant details to rest against the cake and form to the sides of the cake OR if you want the details to appear more dimensional. If the latter, you’ll want the details to dry for about 15 minutes before you apply them to the cake. If you want them to follow the curve of your cake, you’ll want to apply the fondant details right after they’re formed. The moisture in the buttercream on the cake is enough to get the fondant details to stick to the cake without any issues. For more dimensional details, you may opt to apply a dot of buttercream to the back of the fondant detail to get it to stand away from the cake a bit. Answer to question 2: Yes, fondant decorations on a cake that’s been refrigerated overnight is totally fine! If you want to wait and add them after the cake has been refrigerated you can do that too. Thanks for watching!
Hi! I’m adding fondant decorations to a cream cheese Swiss meringue buttercream covered cake. If I put the fondant decorations on the cake, then put cake back in fridge, should I be concerned about condensation? I’m planning to pack up the cake into box and wrap in plastic wrap, will the decorations be ok then ? I’m afraid they’ll fall off 😱 And When should I instruct customer to take cake out of fridge? I appreciate any tips you may have! TIA!!! Love your videos! It’s my second time using fondant decorations but first time with cream cheese buttercream and I’m nervous!
Your fondant decorations should be fine as you’ve described how you’re planning to store your cake. Additionally make sure that your refrigerator isn’t too cold! Removing it from the refrigerator about an hour before the party should be fine. There may be some minimal condensation, but don’t wipe it from the cake. It will evaporate on it’s own. Best of luck!
I am making my first birthday cake for a child’s Lego Birthday next month. I was very nervous before looking at this. Quick question…for the Lego pieces should I make them earlier or can I make them and place them on the cake when it’s done? I think it’s the 2nd one as I don’t want the fondant pieces to dry in place. Just thought I would ask.
Hi. First off, thanks for watching! If you’re planning to make Lego blocks, I would NOT use fondant to do this. I used coat coating (wafers like Candy Melts) to make the Legos you see on the cake in video! You can make these several days ahead of time and just place them on your cake when it’s complete. Here’s a video where I show how to effectively do so using a silicone mold: ua-cam.com/video/qs4C5DqNGsg/v-deo.htmlsi=SZDKMf6k5Ok89h5m. Excuse the format… this video was from when I first started out on UA-cam! 🫣😂
I really like the way you explain. I haven't worked with fondant before but I would like to give it a try. My question is do you use CMC powder in your fondant?
Thanks so much! I do not typically use Tylose or CMC in my fondant. I live where the climate is mild, so I don’t have to contend with a lot of humidity. These can be very helpful if you’re working with fondant where the humidity is high. Best of luck!
Thank you so much for your videos! & love how well you explain everything 🫶 would you have any tips on how to keep fondant cutouts from getting to moist should i place on cake right before pickup ive tried leaving it out in box or putting in my cake fridge and always a soggy mess is their a way to avoid this from happening 😫
It sounds like you’re having issues with high humidity (a lot of moisture in the air). Satin Ice has a “tropical” fondant that is supposed to perform better in hot and humid climates. Otherwise, you may trying adding a small amount of tylose powder or CMC to your fondant to cutouts to help with this issue. Thanks for watching!
Great video - I attempting to make a toy story cake in the next couple of weeks so will do some of the fondant inlays and also some cow print with fondant - I'm not sure if you have a cow print tutorial? 😍
Thanks for the kind words! I’m so glad that you’re finding value in the videos on my channel. Cow print in fondant can be achieved with inlays, BUT you must brush just the edges of the inlaid fondant with a small amount of water to secure the black/brown inlaid fondant accents to the adjacent white fondant BEFORE rolling the entire piece of fondant together (as one piece) a few times. Best of luck on your cake!
Thank you for this useful video. This is great. I was wondering how to avoid cracks in my fondant toppers? I cannot make them smooth. Any comment would be appreciated. Thanks.
Hi there! Thanks for watching! I have a couple of tips for you…. 1) You’ll want to make sure the fondant is nice and pliable before you start and while you’re modeling. If your fondant is cracking or feels dry, spritz it with a little bit of water and knead the moisture into the fondant. 2) Try not to make your topper too far in advance because it will dry out! I would only do it 2 days in advance at most. I hope this helps!
Hi you are so awesome!!! Do you treat your fondant? In other words do you mix it with Tylose powder or add in already made gumpaste to stiffen your fondant? I noticed your pearls came out beautiful and stiff.
That is a very good question! I do NOT add Tylose powder to my fondant to stiffen it. I've used it in the past and just don't care for it. If my fondant feels a little soft (usually due to the heat from my hands), I allow it to sit out for up to 10 minutes uncovered. This typically works for me. If I need any decorations to dry completely stiff (i.e. for toppers, etc.), I use gum paste instead.😉
Hi! I am working on my second fondant cake :) this time I will use more of the cookie cutters to give my cake more texture. I’m going for a casino cake. So I’m buying the cutters for the cards and making some chips. Super excited. However I was wondering how long do they take to dry??
If you want the chips to dry solid and be for decorations only, I would recommend using gum paste instead of fondant. They will be completely dry in 24 hours or less with gum paste. If you’re using fondant, it will take a couple of days for them to dry. Use fondant if you want to eat the chips!
I still have no idea... there al so nice and well explained ;) But I guess I'm going for the marble look! It's going to be my first cake ever... Wish me luck!!! :)
I usually use a little bit of water. I have this playlist showing how I do this in more detail: ua-cam.com/play/PLn2FGuV5N8Gy2d1AoxYWfV5fnWMaVpR_8.html&si=catASgH6iemhR7L_. Thanks for watching 💕
I plan on using found any for a cake topper a cow and was wondering if I could make it in advance. Like going to be 2weeks but wanted it perfect and not have to rush it. Will my cow topper stay soft for cake or do I want it to harden?
Two weeks is a bit long to start making a topper from fondant. It will dry out so much within a couple of days that you won't be able to keep working without it crumbling to pieces. If you want to work in advance and maintain workability, I would highly recommend making your topper from modeling chocolate instead. I've used it for the faces on my bust cakes because it allows me to work little by little over several days. Thanks for watching!
I need guidance, will fondant cutouts melt on buttercream? I am new into cake decorating and I've only worked with whip cream, once i made cutouts to place on whipped cream and it melted gliding down.☹
No, fondant cutouts won’t melt when placed on buttercream icing. The issue you had was due to using whipped cream. It’s just too soft and nothing attaches to it, so I’m not surprised that it failed when you placed fondant on it. Thanks for watching!
@@AsiaCoffee Hi,do fondant cutouts need to be left to air dry before applying to a buttercream cake? Do i just leave them uncovered? Will they crack if its too hard?...i need help.☹
@@StillVoice_ No, fondant accents don’t need to be left to air dry for a long time before applying to a cake. I wouldn’t leave it them out any longer than 30 minutes before applying. If they dry too hard, they will crack. Best of luck!
@@AsiaCoffee Can i apply them right after i coat my cake with buttercream? Do i need to put the cake in the fridge to harden before applying the fondant cutouts?..i am afraid they will run down my buttercream.
Hi! I'm hoping to attempt animal themed cupcakes using marshmallow fondant (overlay). I was wondering if it's necessary to let my fondant harden before adding them to my cupcakes or can I add them to my cupcakes immediately after? Thanks!
@@AsiaCoffee ok thanks I like the way you explain your baking tips so simple but also understanding I'm looking to take my baking creativity and business serious and I'm glad I found your channel..blessings!!
You don’t want the fondant to dry out completely BEFORE it’s applied to the cake. That will make your accents crack. You’ll want to apply them to the cake soon after you make them. I hope this helps! 💕
It’s called Tylose or CMC powder. I talk more about it in this more recent video: ua-cam.com/video/xK2lSzow6h8/v-deo.htmlsi=0RP_ud_2f3WbwQ7D. Thanks for watching!
@@AsiaCoffee great. Thank you so much for your reply, I’ve been watching your videos and they’ve been so helpful. I’m going to make my sons 2nd birthday cake and your videos are helping me on what to do. ♥️
A couple of things to prevent your fondant decorations from drying: 1) Don’t make them too far in advance. I would recommend no more than 2 days in advance for toppers, no more than 1 day in advance for plaques and no more than 2 hours for smaller accents being placed directly on a cake. 2) To keep smaller accents from drying out and cracking, keep them lightly covered with plastic wrap. If you have a smaller Wilton practice board, keeping them under a plastic sheet helps. Thanks for watching!
@@AsiaCoffee I just made it last night. I let it set out to dry so I can put it on the cake this morning but it cracked. Could it be that it wasn't fully dry? It seemed like it was...
@@marijohnson907 Sounds like it was only partly dry, then it cracked from being flexed when you moved it. Did you allow the decoration to dry flat then try to put it on a rounded surface?
@@AsiaCoffee I knew that I wouldn't be able to curve it once it dried so as soon as I was done, I set it on the rounded surface so it would dry in that shape. But when I checked on it this morning, it broke in half.
@@marijohnson907 That’s frustrating; so sorry to hear that... It sounds like your fondant needed a little more time to dry. Humidity plays a huge part in this. If it’s been raining, snowing or just plain muggy where you are, it’ll take longer for the fondant to dry. For fondant pieces that are purely for decoration (meaning you want them to dry hard and be removed from the cake before consumption), I would recommend adding gum paste or tylose powder to the fondant. This will help the decoration dry harder and faster. I would also recommend: After creating your fondant decoration and laying it over a curve, gently pin around it to prevent it from shifting in any way. If you’re really bothered by the cracking AND you have the time, remake it with the adding gum paste or tylose powder. I hope this helps!
hello..I am new subscriber here...i watched your video and it is amazing...please help to solve how to keep my my fondant from moist..it looks like melting :(
It sounds like you're in a place where the humidity is very high. I would recommend that you store your fondant in an airtight container in a refrigerator. You'll also want to work with the fondant in a temperature controlled room (i.e. with air conditioning). This should help!
For fondant toppers, I always air dry at room temp. If I’m placing fondant accents on a cake, I let them sit out but loosely cover them with plastic wrap so they don’t completely dry out. Some people like to use a bit of Tylose powder in their fondant to get it to harden faster. I haven’t used it in years.
The best way to make a fondant wine bottle is to use a silicone mold. It may work better to use chocolate/candy coating and pour it into a mold. Thanks for watching!
I’ve been getting this question a lot, so chances are that there’s already an answer in the comments for this one! I will also address this is an upcoming video. Thanks for watching! 💕
Because ganache dries hard, you'll need to mist some water over your cake before covering it with fondant. If you're just applying fondant accents onto the ganache, brush a little bit of water onto the back of them before placing onto your cake!
This video is one of my older videos, so it’s most likely powdered sugar that I was using to dust the surface. I would recommend using corn starch to dust the surface instead BUT powdered sugar can be used in a pinch. Thanks for watching! 💕
@ivannaivanova8542 Correct, it does leave some residue. Start by removing the residue by gently brushing it away with a soft, dry pastry brush. If there’s still white residue, you can remove it with a little bit of steam. Be careful with this technique! Leaving the steam on the fondant too long will cause it to become wet and sticky. It’s important to use a little bit of steam. Best of luck!

Hello , thanks for this helpful video. What is that powder? Corn starch, powdered sugar?? Or what is it?
When working with fondant, you can use powdered sugar cornstarch or a combination of both! I prefer cornstarch.
@@AsiaCoffee Thank you!! You made my night.❤

Thanks!
Let them harden for about 20 minutes before applying them to your cupcakes. Best of luck and thanks for watching!
@@AsiaCoffee thank you so much!
Awesome!
Hi,do you use tylose powder for your letter cut outs thanks 😊
I don’t usually, but it helps; especially if you live in a humid climate. Thanks for watching!

How does the fondant dry? Do I need to leave it out? I’m new to this.
You don’t want the fondant to dry out completely BEFORE it’s applied to the cake. That will make your accents crack. You’ll want to apply them to the cake soon after you make them. I hope this helps! 💕
How to make and use fondant for beginners please!!
Can I ask.. how do I keep the decorated fondant?
Can I use Tylose powder for dusting?
No; too much Tylose will cause the fondant to dry out super fast. Cornstarch, powdered sugar or a combination of the two are fine for dusting.
What is the powder I use for the fondant??
It’s called Tylose or CMC powder. I talk more about it in this more recent video: ua-cam.com/video/xK2lSzow6h8/v-deo.htmlsi=0RP_ud_2f3WbwQ7D. Thanks for watching!

What u use for dusting the surface? Sugar?
Cornstarch, powdered sugar or a combination of both can be used to dust the surface before working with fondant. Thanks for watching!

Do you have any tips on how to keep fondant decorations from cracking after drying?
@@AsiaCoffee Thank You so much for your reply! God Bless
hello..please tell me how to avoid fondant to get moist..please...
How many hrs do u dry? Is it just room tep air drying?
For fondant toppers, I always air dry at room temp. If I’m placing fondant accents on a cake, I let them sit out but loosely cover them with plastic wrap so they don’t completely dry out. Some people like to use a bit of Tylose powder in their fondant to get it to harden faster. I haven’t used it in years.
Plz show me how to make wine bottle with fondant
The best way to make a fondant wine bottle is to use a silicone mold. It may work better to use chocolate/candy coating and pour it into a mold. Thanks for watching!

How to stick fondant to chocolate ganache
Because ganache dries hard, you'll need to mist some water over your cake before covering it with fondant. If you're just applying fondant accents onto the ganache, brush a little bit of water onto the back of them before placing onto your cake!

1:59 what do you dust the surface with?
This video is one of my older videos, so it’s most likely powdered sugar that I was using to dust the surface. I would recommend using corn starch to dust the surface instead BUT powdered sugar can be used in a pinch. Thanks for watching! 💕
@@AsiaCoffee Thanks! Doesnt corn starch leave like white spots? How do you remove the white from colored fondant?
@ivannaivanova8542 Correct, it does leave some residue. Start by removing the residue by gently brushing it away with a soft, dry pastry brush. If there’s still white residue, you can remove it with a little bit of steam. Be careful with this technique! Leaving the steam on the fondant too long will cause it to become wet and sticky. It’s important to use a little bit of steam. Best of luck!
Thank you 🤗
