Chun wah Kam is my favorite manapua and I love the way he refers to it as “Hawaii” food and not “Hawaiian” as we locals know the difference. It’s so refreshing to see!
RIP to Char Hung Sut. Nobody's steamed manapua comes close. Best flavor, best ratio of filling to bun, never any gristle or fatty pieces. Closest is royal kitchen but still not as good.
Royal Kitchen is 💩. Your mouth must be pilau. Their pork hash and half moon are always spoiled and sour. Their Manapua has so little pork inside. You better go to Chun Wah Kam. I’m not even kidding.
Sorry CWK, but my favorite was Libby's on Kalihi Street. Too bad they closed. Libby's ground their char siu fine and didn't use a lot of red food coloring. I don't like it when the filling has chunks of fat and gristle. Pretty sure Libby's had fat and gristle, too, but it was ground up so fine you wouldn't notice.
Royal Kitchen’s half moon and pork hash have always been sour and spoiled the last 4-5 times I went. Their Manapua is skimpy inside. Sour pork hash is unacceptable. Pilau taste.
I didn’t realize that only Hawaii called it Manapua, so when I went to the mainland I asked for Manapua and they looked confused and didn’t know what I was asking for. Then they said char siu bao.. and I said no… Manapua 🤣🤣🤣🤣 this was in the late 70s early 80s!!! I apparently lived in my own little bubble of Hawaii for 26 yrs!!!!
When I go to CWK, I get disappointed when they don’t have half moon. I still don’t know why they call it half moon since it’s a huge oval ball filled with crunchy water chestnuts and flavorful pork….so good. They don’t make it all the time but even though I LOVE their soft, chewy Manapua, stuffed with planny pork, I love the half moon more. Pork hash is ono too. Their bubbly sweet rice cake is very flavorful too. Not just sweet, it has a nice, richly developed fermented flavor. And the kids that work there are fast and polite. Always accommodating with the planny mustard/shoyu and chopsticks. But the prices……YEOWWWWW!
Tough choice. I find myself gravitating more towards baked these days…and the absolute best baked is Sing Cheong Yuan in Chinatown. Royal Kitchen is awesome too. Definitely miss Char Hung Sut’s steamed ones, and they had the best pork hash

Yup pick up order tomorrow 8:30 don’t forget the pork hash 2:1 ratio. Greg Hammer was right 2 pork hash to 1 Manapua 🤙
I am team baked😋😘 their Manapua is full of filling!!

Yeah so talking about a place that doesn’t exist is kinda moot and pointless.
@@Charly-in-the-808 Yeah, so who died and made YOU the comment section judge? As_h_ _ _!
Yeah, I do miss Libby's. Was pretty bummed that they closed because it happened so suddenly and I never heard what the reasons were.
Been eating steam manapua since little kid time.....
A manapua without pork hash/half moon is like Batman without robin!
Manapua was a staple since we were buying it from the manapua man in the blue or white vans
Royal Kitchen baked char siu bao is melt in da mouth. Chun Wah Kam not even close

I always get a box before going back mainland. Loveeee baked and steamed manapua
My Portuguese roots have me liking the baked as my favorite!

Baked manapua at chn wah kam is like candy. I always liked steam but converted to baked as an adult

Steamed only
Steamed! And with actual char siu meat inside, not fat!
Ono! Great video!

Gotta be fresh steamed! Most ono.
Steamed! Don't care for Chun Wah Kam food. Miss Char Hung Sut 😥
Baked Manaupua but if steamed manapua is filled with pork, it's all ono!!!
Team Steamed!
Sing Cheong on Maunakea st is better. Libby’s was also good.
Man A Pua 🤫
