I remember the Yorktown repaired so fast the Japanese literally thought they destroyed it and that was another carrier in the area, yeah that just about sums out what happened to the Southern Keep here
Ships doing a braking burn at the start, PDC fire to stop missiles, EW to screw with enemy targeting and missile tracking? I'm digging it and really getting an Expanse feel, just swap the laser weaponry for railguns and you got a full blown Expanse game. I'm gonna add this to the pile of games to play
You know, when I submitted the Value Judgement and Moral Failing to be one of the starter fleets, I really didn't expect them to absolutely fuck people up. Whenever I used them I was taken apart by my fellow pre-alpha testers. But now, they're the menaces of the community, the ravagers of newbies, the destroyers of anyone stupid enough to leave home without jamming. I'm so proud :D
This is exactly how I always imagined how space combat would actually work. Being much more like submarines rather than surface ships or fighters. Slow, methodical, and a lot of positional fuckery.
Real space combat will likely be fought by unmanned laser-ships at ridiculous range. It will combine the slow movement of submarines (relative to combat range) with the exposed positions of surface ships, the lethality of tanks, and the impersonality of drone strikes in an environment where infrared cameras see everything everywhere. Needless to say, this doesn't make for a good story or game, so writers and game designers must make unlikely assumptions and/or ignore inconsistencies in order to make things fun.
People mention that it's kind of like the Expanse, and while I kind of agree... in my opinion this game sounds, looks and feels alot like Homeworld, reminds me of Nexus: The Jupiter Incident with how it plays out in limited numbers, while also featuring some voice acting that honestly sounds very Freespace-y. Definitely gonna get it because of these things alone, and I can't wait for the campaign!
Just from the intro, this reminds me of Sins of the Prophets but on a smaller scale. I feel like this is gonna be something I watch the notification feed for.

Now, since this game is more on the realistic side akin to The Expanse (from what I gather from reviews and this video) it might not happen, but I would love to see carriers and fighters in this. It could open up more strategic options and dynamics but more importantly, more epic space battles.
@@stratecal796 Realistically yes. The Dev's plan to avoid this is to say that, since fightercraft have relatively precise wepaons with a pilot onboard to make observations and decisions, they'll be the only thing in the game capable of attempting to disable specific systems on a target ship.
This game looks really cool, reminds me a little of the old capital-ship deathmatch game Fractured Space, but you get to control entire fleets you build yourself -- and it seems much more in-depth. Can't wait to see how the devs improve it through early access!

I actually meant Fractured Space, which was a capital ship deathmatch game that came out in 2016 but has been abandoned by the devs (I'll edit my original comment). Last I heard the community had bootlegged custom hosted servers to keep it alive but idk if those are still up. It was an awesome game, except for the predatory ftp model 😅
Fun fact: as far as i can tell, reactor booms dont actually do any damage at ALL, but they do make your hull look all scorched and create a massive 360 degree jamming field
They don't do much in the way of damage to Heavy Cruisers and Battleships internally or to the hull, but anything less than that can get absolutely blasted, even with no initial damage.
Won't lie, this game look very interesting and I'm fairly certain there are some who'd be very interested in this. Especially considering this is more or less The Expanse in RTS format.
I’d shit bricks if there was a 4X mode, but I’d make the star count comparatively low to other space games but star systems be really in depth. Like Expanse/Gundam/BSG 12 colonies scale
This is so cool. I like soft soft sci-fi but that mech warrior levels of game design is so cool. Holy shit this would be wicked with something like gundam or starwars.

Light cruisers really seem to be a coin flip, today I played a battle where all 3 of my CPU light ships were killed in the 9th minute and when I played them one died instantly and the other 2 just tanked. Every single enemy ship either ran out of ammo or had it's offensive capability removed and bot my cruisers ran out of ammo, enemies just kinda orbited me and I just floated there.
The second I saw this game I KNEW that you were going to make a video on it. This looks so cool, its my birthday too so Im picking it up for me and a friend!
I haven't finished the vid yet, but assuming there isn't one in the vid, I hope you do this again but make only 1 or 2 big battle ships, maybe focus them on missile carrying.

Ooooooooh, this is definitely going on my wishlist. Like a lot of others, I definitely get a "The Expanse" feeling (particularly from the ship designs). But I'm REALLY hoping that this is similar to "Children of a Dead Earth" in terms of being able to build your own ships and being able to use drones. I'd also really like it if there were two kinds of combat modes. One being the CQC like we see here, with the other mode being a long distance fight where you have to set up your orbit around a body to make sure that you can get a good angle and speed for the brief seconds where you are in range of each other.
You won't be getting any COADE vibes out of the battles unfortunately. You can kind of think of this game as 'Homeworld/Star Wars, but it's based on 21st century naval warfare instead of WW2'. Your ships are painfully slow to accelerate and maneuvre, and arbitrarily slow maximum speeds are in full effect. Instead we get radar and radio simulation with a full suite of jammers and ELINT gear, and extreme range (ie: about 10 kilometres) missile and railgun combat is a viable playstyle. Most battles take in the orders of 10-20 minutes real time, and rarely does a single shot fire before about 5 minutes. In terms of customisation, it's not COADE/FTD but there's still loads to work with. In its current form (been on steam for 5 days now? Still quite EA) you got access to empty hulls in different weight classes, which you spend points on different guns/radars/supporting infrastructure to create a 'list' that you take into a battle.

I like to think that they're both the 'canon' Loudout for a standard Axford.

I really like that ECM jamming actually jams your UI with ghost signatures

Carriers are in the lore and on the roadmap.
If you look on the road map, carriers and fighters are planned, along with boarding
from what i've seen regarding realistic space fighter craft, they will end up being basically missiles with guns on them if they stick to realism.

Sam had a giant ship that was just railguns and a small ship that was pure ecm and scouting, it worked well enough as a support team
