Thank you for your documentary on Andrée de Jongh code name Dédée!! My father, Sgt Reginald Collins, RAAF (Royal Australian Air Force) flying with the RAF, was shot down in the 1000 Bomber Raid over Cologne on the night of 30/31 May 1942. He bailed out and landed in Aachen, Germany. He was on his own for 3 days, hiding by day, moving at night. He evaded capture by the Germans, having no food, drinking water from puddles on the roads, and walked to Liege Nazi-occupied, Belgium. He was given clothes and a sandwich and helped by local Belgian people to take the right roads. He was found by children sleeping in a hedge on a farm. The family took him in and through contacts he joined the Comete Line. He was hidden throughout Belgium and France. From St Jean de Luz, Dédée and Florentino took him and 3 others over the Pyrenees into Basque San Sebastian and Madrid. Dédée then returned, and they were taken to Gibraltar then England. My Father was the No 26th person in the Comete Line to be helped to escape by Dédée and her resistance helpers from Brussels, through France. There are so many stories behind each journey he took. Dédée and my Father corresponded after the war.
    Lest. We. Forget.

Airey Neaves book about Andrée called Little Cyclone is well worth reading. I first became aware of her through the BBC series Secret Army which was loosely based on the evasion line Andrée ran. Her bravery & that of others like her must never be forgotten.

@TheWorldofGood79 I watched that series with my Father in Australia. Knowing he was one of the many saved by Andrée de Jongh was remarkable. I also have the book Little Cyclone. I will be in Brussels in October 2024 to attend the Ligne Comète Line Remembrance commemoration ceremony in honour of 11 Comète resistance workers who were executed by the Nazis firing squad. William Neaves, son of Airey Neaves will be attending. 🇦🇺🇧🇪

@@maryhockaday1452 Many thanks for sharing that Mary about your Dad being saved by Andrée, she really was an extraordinary woman, her courage & dedication along with all her colleagues in the Comet Line must never be forgotten. I've just got a copy of the new book about the Comet Line by Alexander Stilwell that's just come out & I'm looking forward to reading it. One of the first English airmen Andree helped get home was Jack Newton who lived not far from me & he & Andrée remained in contact for many years both passing away around the same time. He spoke so highly of her. All the very best for your visit to Brussels, I'm sure the ceremony will be a very moving experience.
