  • It's been a long time! Life happens! Anyway, here I am installing a towbar and testing it with my Tahoe. Enjoy!

Hands down the best dune buggy video I've ever seen.

In the UK we would fit a ‘trailer board’ to the rear of the towed vehicle (with bungee cords etc) and plug it’s electrical connection into the electrics on your SUV’s towing assembly. That way the board displays your SUV’s brake/running lights and your indicators. That will save you having to mount, wire and remove etc every time you tow the buggy. I’d recommend googling UK trailer boards and checking out what it comes up with.

Nice buggy! Good Vid. I've been flat towing my fiberglass buggy as well as my Baja for a couple years now with no problems if I keep the speed below 60 mph.
I use the magnetic LED trailer light kit from Harbor Freight. About $30 when on sale. Since I have a aluminum package tray on the back I did not have anything the magnet would stick to. I got two 4inch metal electrical box covers and mounted those to the aluminum plate with a 1/4 - 20 eye bolt which gives me an extra tie down hook.
The lights could be mounted high on your surf board rack. Just need to be visible. The light kit came with a flat 4 plug which will plug into your Tahoe trailer connector. They have all kinds of plug adapters if you need that.
Be sure and use safety chains in a X pattern in case something goes wrong. The highway patrol will nail you if you don't have the chains while towing. I just loop it over the top axle beam and put a bolt and nut on it. then use the hitch safety chain bracket on the car.
I also tow my Baja and just stick the tail lights to my roof.
It seems to do fine on corners and hitting pot holes.
I've been thinking of getting a back up camera to mount on the rear of my travel trailer because I tow it behind that. It's legal to double ball where I live. I can't even see the car behind the trailer. Been doing this for several thousand miles and plan on continuing that this year.
Hope you get lots of smiles to the miles.

Hey thanks for all the info! I do run a safety chain but I’m not sure I’m using it correctly? I’ll have to look into that!

Do you have caster shims on the front beam? They help stability at hiway speeds and will fix your towing issue with the wheels wanting to stay pointed straight. Adds more positive caster.
