What does keeping the Sabbath look like? I was in the military and we worked Saturdays and Sundays. What about rescue workers? I'm reminded of when Jesus healed on the Sabbath and was accused of blasphemy. When is Saturday? Is Saturday the same "Saturday" God was referring to? I'm confused. However, keeping the Sabbath Holy I can see.

1- what does keeping the Sabbath look like? The main thing we are told to do is rest, take a break, unplug ourselves from all our responsibilities and connect with the creator.
2- not sure about working in the military, it’s my understanding when you join the military they own your----fill in the blank.
3-what about rescue workers? I think in many cases such as doctors and rescue workers this would be permitted, however their lives are extremely stressful.
4-when is Saturday? The 7th day of the week according to dictionary.
5-Jesus being accused of working on the Sabbath because He healed a man was by the Pharisees who wanted Him dead, they were looking for a way they could accuse Him of breaking the law. He concludes by saying that it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath day.
5-is Saturday the same Saturday God was referring to? Yes, keep in mind the Jews have been keeping the Sabbath “Saturday” for over 4000 years, if they were wrong Jesus would have corrected them.
      I hope this helps,
      David Freeman

@@isthatinthebible Good point. It's safe to assume that Saturday is the same. I do understand that the Sabbath is Saturday. You're right, logically it's the same Saturday. I brought up Jesus healing on the Sabbath with rescue workers to correlate with assimilation healing as a basic requirement. However, the same applies to any required resource IE, electricity and the faculties required to run the plant, etc. The Jews did not consume any resources directly or indirectly lest they be guilty. Right? More directly, they didn't have public municipalities to compare what I am trying to convey. But, flushing a toilet or flipping a light switch would cause someone to work on the Sabbath. So, are we then guilty too? I appreciate your time and thank you for answering my questions. I am genuinely asking because I don't know. I'm also praying over this.

Keep in mind the Jews went totally overboard with the law of God. They had the oral law referred to by the Pharisees as the tradition of the elders. Mar 7:5 Then the Pharisees and scribes asked him, Why walk not thy disciples according to the tradition of the elders, but eat bread with unwashen hands? The oral laws of the Jews or the traditions of the elders was fence building around the laws of God which made keeping the commandments a miserable experience. For example on the Sabbath day you could pick a few grapes off the vine but if you picked a whole cluster that was harvesting. They accused Jesus and His disciples of doing this, Luk 6:1 And it came to pass on the second sabbath after the first, that he went through the corn fields; and his disciples plucked the ears of corn, and did eat, rubbing them in their hands. Luk 6:2 And certain of the Pharisees said unto them, Why do ye that which is not lawful to do on the sabbath days? This was abject stupidity but it was their tradition or the oral law. Jesus will blast them by saying, Mar 7:9 And he said unto them, Full well ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your own tradition. The Pharisees placed more emphases on their interpretation of the law than the law itself. It was their way of getting right with God, if you kept the oral law [the tradition of the elders] perfectly, you could earn your salvation, in their eyes. Christ completely dismisses the oral law and it got Him killed. Most Christians know nothing about the difference between the oral law of the Jews and the law of God, that’s not a boast, it’s just a fact.
Now let’s get to our modern society. I am part owner of a business, we file a W-2 form on our workers. So we don’t allow them to work for us on the Sabbath. People who run water plants and electrical plants are not working for you. So it does not bother my conscience a bit to use what they offer, in fact they probably have no conviction of the Sabbath and probably will not until Christ sets up His kingdom on this earth. Now you may ask, what if everyone today kept the Sabbath? What about grocery stores, what about refrigerated trucks, what about hospitals, what about crime and police officers? My answer is the miracle of the manna. You can read about it in Exodus 16:1. Each day they were to gather manna but if they kept it to the next day it would rot. However, on the 6th day God told them to gather twice as much so they would not have to work on the Sabbath. The miracle was it would not rot even though they kept it for two days. Maybe if our nation kept the Sabbath there would be no crime on the Sabbath day, no sick people on that day, food in grocery stores would stay fresh. Never underestimate the power of obedience and the miracle connected to that obedience.
