    Wow, usually its hard to see how steep it is with camera vs real life... but somewhat showed here! having more amateur's practicing on steeper slope also helps... morale wise.

      Thanks for your comment, Paulo MK. Yes, the footage from the steep slope (Experten) is actually created by Ola Matsson from SkiStar Trysil, when we collaborated with them from the opening day of Experten. He is a brilliant photographer and videographer. You can check out his tuff on Instagram: instagram.com/olamatsson/?hl=en Have a nice day! /Janus

    This something I seemingly taught myself on my most ski trip. I find that if I narrate to myself where I’m to be looking or what I’m supposed to be doing, it is so helpful. It was actually came changer for me mentally, which was my biggest obstacle. Thank you for this video because it validated that what I did was actually “a thing” 😅

    Great tip, thanks! What helps me tackle a steep slope is starting off on an angle. Then when I reach the bottom, I tell myself holy $@it! I just did that 😊

    I'm stoked to be be a "mom-skier" this season (cruising blue/intermediate slopes) but I may give these tips a try when I'm feeling like dipping into a black diamond or two.. thanks from BC !!

      Thats awesome, Riverbend Taxprep! To begin with you can always try the tip out on a slope which is a little steeper than your normal go to slopes and see if you can make it work. I hope you will have a great season in BC. We just had our first snowfall today. /Janus

      Thanks for commenting, Ilona Brandt-Tom and PS. This mind trick wont work in every situation for all people, so don't worry. But when the skiers technical preconditions and the terrain are right, this might be a huge aha moment. To practice the steeps and this mind trick, you can start out in terrain which is comfortable to you and the do one turn at the time to a full stop, where you imagine the slope being flat. Then move on and do the same in steeper and steeper terrain. This will practice the mind skill ans well as your confidence in your ability to control your speed. The technical movements for doing this is something I want to do more videos on in the future. I hope this helps. /Janus

    Steeps are not a problem when they’re smooth. It’s moguls that scare me.

      @InspirationalSkiing  3 місяці тому

      I take that as a video request, @paulwhetstone0473. Thanks. Moguls can be really scary - until you start to get a hold of the right movements. Then, they become so much fun. I have turned the experience around for many skiers and we do have some video ideas in the pipeline to help out with this. /Janus

    Usually a very steep slope does not seem terrifying also because the camera makes it looks like horizontal.

    • @InspirationalSkiing
      @InspirationalSkiing  4 місяці тому +1

      You are right, @ruoguhou403. The steepness of a slope is very difficult to capture on camera. The steepness shots in this video is made by the amazing photographer Ola Matsson from Skistar, and I think he does an extraordinary job of showing how steep that slope is. It is called Experten, and it is the steepest slope in Trysil. Very fun to ski when the snow is as good as it was that day. /Janus

    lie to myself and believe it🎉

    • @InspirationalSkiing
      @InspirationalSkiing  9 місяців тому

      In a way, yes. What I find is that I am actually able to change my perception somewhat. As a consequence my whole posture and position on the skis gets almost automatically better aligned with the slope. The natural tendency too lean back and away from the depth of the valley disappears. And with a better position skiing and moving becomes easier. The prerequisites are of course that you have some good skiing movements dialed in and it might take some practice to change the perception. Have a nice day! /Janus

    how do you overcome the initial drop, as I find im fine once on the slope but I struggle to push myself over the edge when at the top

    • @InspirationalSkiing
      @InspirationalSkiing  Рік тому +2

      Thanks for your question, Electro. If you are standing on the top of a slope, like the one in the video with a really sharp kink from flat to steep, I suggest you try side slipping on to the slope or maybe just do one turn to full stop to begin with. Once you are one the steep part it may feel easier to start skiing. I hope this helps. /Janus

      What zolcsorba said! You first need confidence that you know how to position your body so the tips can turn. Then you need to dive headfirst, so you are over the tips. The tips drop down over that edge so your upper body has to also or your will end up on your tails.

    Imagining the slope isn't steep does not replace knowledge and confidence.
    The only, and I mean ONLY thing that will help you on steep slopes is to know how to position your body to allow your skis to make the turns.
    Know how to apply weight to the tips of your skis rather than in the middle.
    Know how to anticipate the new turn through the positioning of your upper body to create the quick leg angle change needed for a quick turn.
    This knowledge and a high level of confidence through doing those things on less steep slopes, will allow you to be as aggressive as you need to get your upper body down the hill and over your tips. The steering part of the skis.
