We love explode the code! This is all I use for phonics and spelling at the moment.
Was always curious about ETC, thank you for sharing!
I never gravitated towards these for my son who is now going into fourth grade, but I did purchase 1 and 2 for my upcoming kindergartener. They seem like such great review for phonics after our LOE lessons and for introducing spelling. Great flip through!
These look great! I’ve not seen a video review of these until now.
We currently use Explode the Code, and used it for almost 20 years with each of our children.
This comes too late for us, but I hadn’t seen any of your videos for awhile and enjoyed watching. :) I have heard lots about this but I have never seen how the books progress, you did a wonderful walk through, and if this had come a few years earlier we may have tried it. :) Incredible news, my newly 4 year old is reading! So I have successfully taught both my girls to read, am I done? Can we stop now? 😄 LOL!!
Have a wonderful day and thanks for the great video!!
Great review! This seems very much needed for my 11 year old who has ADHD.
Excellent video. I love your channel! ❤
Thank you so much!
Max had such good luck with Explode the Code!
Tanya, thank you for another wonderful curriculum review! I wish I had used these for my son. He taught himself to read so I assumed he didn’t need phonics practice but now I see that a good phonics program can greatly assist a child with spelling later on. My question is this- what grade would correspond roughly to which level? Thank you! 🙂
I’m not sure about the grade level correlation, but if you check them out on Christian Books (the store name, but these books are secular), they show examples of the inside of each. And there is a placement book, but it’s a bit pricey. The Explode the Code website may have placement guides as well.
I've heard of Explode the Code for years, but have never checked them out. They seem very organized and seem to have a good progression. I've never been able to get past the cover illustrations, though. I get a jarring, harsh feeling, when I see the covers, but it appears the pictures on the inside pages are more mild on the eyes.
Yes, I am not a fan of the covers either! But the black and white interior is much gentler on the eyes.
This is a little late but, I just bought explode the code for my child for this coming year and she saw the cover and said "mommy, that looks a little creepy" 😂
@@brittanybell7577 Yes. They are a huge turn off for me.
I’m having such a hard time choosing between Explode the Code and Evan Moor.
Do you have any piece of advice or opinion to share please?
TIA 😊
I think they are both solid choices for different things - personally, I prefer Evan Moor for grammar skills and Explode the Code for spelling/phonics. Hope that helps!
@@ProjectHappyHome thank you so much for your help 😀
What level would you start an average 4th grader in?
That’s a pretty tough question, because I suppose it depends on where you think your kiddo lies, phonics and phonemes-wise. If you look into the online version, it continuously assesses what level your kid is at and adjusts in real time.
