Bright ideas for big trucks - Anglo American

Sishen mine at Kumba Iron Ore is one of the biggest open-pit mines in the world, operating around the clock, 12 months a year. After recording a number of vehicle collision incidents in the past, there was an urgent need to address the problem.
The new collision avoidance system (CAS), developed by Sishen's engineering team, includes a range of smart features that help drivers avoid collisions and encourage them to drive safely. The CAS improves the notoriously poor visibility on large haul trucks, eliminating blind spots and giving drivers a bird's eye view of their surroundings. This stuff was spawned from Flarm, a Swiss company that makes collision avoidance instrumentation for aircraft.
They spun off another company 'SafeMine' that addresses the mining market exclusively with ultra tough hardware optimised for trucks etc. Clever stuff!
