Thank you! OMG FIRST (apparently you have to say this)
Thanks for dropping by for a productive day. OMG you are so down with the kids
Oh I get by with a little help from my friends....
yes its youtube law that you must say first in a video
You know, come to think of it, I've been the first to comment on a number of vids and I've never said 'first' !
Cos I'm not a sick bastard !
Ian - I suggest you check the diff oil level again now - with Betty on level ground - now that a correct level has been allowed to 'circulate' as it might have filled other depleted areas.
Words fail to express how much I enjoyed this.
Even better that Betty's gearbox wasn't terminally shagged!
I'm glad you enjoyed it. We had fun getting Betty up to scratch. The gearbox seemed fine apart from in need of a good service. Cheers
HubNut fan here showing gratitude by liking and subscribing Badgertronix
Thank you!
@@Badgertronix Watched ALL of your Morris Minor video's already, Good job! :)
There is a fucking disgusting lack of Au falcon tutorials honestly, please do more of anything you can possibly think of with these things ♥️
Thank you, cannot possibly thank you enough.
Love the content
essentially the same as the E series mate, just a body change.
Thank you very much for looking after Ian. He is a lovely chap who is always kind to children and animals.
Are you saying he's not kind to cars ?
Is this a reference to TWC's doughnuts ?
We had a great day working on and talking about cars
Fantastic simplistic video guys….i enjoyed watching the lot!
Now to head of and have a crack at my son’s ol ute….thanks heaps!
Hi Badger, that looked messy and I'm surprised there was no drain plug. Thank you for helping Ian out, very kind of you. Looking forward to the next update on the Minor 👍🙂
drain plugs aren't that common and the transmission is supposedly 'sealed for life'. Morris Minor videos will be coming soon. Cheers
@@Badgertronix Ford don't like drain plugs full stop!
What a treat to watch you helping our Ian.
we had a great day and achieved a lot
Badgertronix excellent
After a tiresome working day it is a treat to see someone working so professionally. Looks like "filled-for-life" of auto boxes is really until they die of oil starvation! I'm sure both Betty and Ian have benefited a lot from your company.
Thank you. I try to do a proper job and I'm sure the Fairmont will be better for the love. Cheers
Well, since I think manufacturers would like people to buy a new car every three years or so that seems hardly surprising!
@@Badgertronix yes I know you wouldn't do anything less than your best.
What they really mean is "filled for the life of the warranty"!
Well, filled for life engines are not impossible, or even hard to build for a car. But noone would pay for it.
Best au transmission service video in my opinion. He also explains everything in a very easy to understand manner.
thanks
Really? I must make a video of how to do it then
All they did was change a new filter and a third of the fluids! They put new into old! Pfff butchers
Very interesting video, thanks for looking after our hubnut, you've got a new subscriber👍
Awesome, thank you
Thank you for your hospitality to our wandering HubNut.
Anytime. We had fun
Hey badgertronix, thanks for helping hubnut. OMG I love your B3 80? 90? Favourite 5 cylinder. I'm off to watch your head gasket change
It was a pleasure and plenty of tea was consumed. It's a JDM spec B4 80. I should have the engine back together in the next week or so. Cheers
Cheers for helping ian. 👍🍻
It was a pleasure
Thanx Badgertronix for looking after my friends Ian and Betty! Really enjoyed your video and have subscribed.
It was great to help out. Thanks for watching
What a nice man you are, and very skilful too! Thank you so much for helping our HubNut. Love from the UK 🇬🇧 x
Thank you
Yay! Good on ya Badgertronix for helping out HubNut! Good to see Betty getting some love. The fluid condition and pan magnet fines seem par for course for all the BTR transmissions I crack open nowadays, unfortunately they tend to get run into the ground.
Good stuff! Like your channel, Suscribed! 👍
Andrew from the other side of the ditch 🇦🇺
We had a great day 😊 agreed, nothing scary found in the trans but definitely in need of a service. Cheers and welcome
How often should it be changed
More Au falcon stuff please!!!!!! i really need to learn as mush as humanly possible
Thanks, but I don't have an AU Falcon 🤷♂️ if I have to work on one I'll make a video. Cheers
Touch of deja vu! I have arrived here via a Hub Nut link. I think I came across you before, pulling a Morris Minor out of a shed (Moggy was my first car). Need to catch up on how that project is going.
Ah yes I need to do more on that project
It's awful having to work on the floor on your back, especially at my age ( 65 ) I get all sorts of muscular problems doing so working on my 1972 MG Midget. Many thanks for helping out our Mr Hub Nut, I 'm sure he was very grateful.
I don't sirens much time working on the floor but when I do I often feel like I've done 10 rounds with Mike Tyson. The car is still running so we must have done well. Cheers
Top job mate done with care and thought not like most garages and main dealers.
Ps. Ian you did well as the apprentice.
Thanks great video.
Thank you. He was great at making tea!
Thanks for helping hubnut
It was a pleasure
You are a true gent helping out ian. Your channel looks cool aswell so I've subscribed, and thanks to Jamie .
Thanks. Jamie did a good thing
great job on Hubnuts car M80 added you saved in my faves got a day of from work so looking through your video collection on this crappy rainy Burscough UK day
Thanks for stopping by and I hope you find something worth watching
Amazing under that old girl chassis so clean everywhere looks rust free. Good job helping HuNut BTW.
Not much rusts here and the selection of oil leaks helps give a nice undercoat
Nice of you to help out Jonathon. I don't think I've even been able to drain a pan without spilling it.
I got a fair bit of transmission fluid in my hair, otherwise it went pretty cleanly. Cheers Wyatt
Great seeing Ian on here! Great video - new subscriber thanks to Ian!
Thanks and welcome
Dirty job but someone’s gotta do it 😉 Nice of Hubnut to stop by mate
So much easier with a helper though. Great to meet the man himself
That looked like a good job, using the hubnut drip trays, you might see your subscriptions jump, I just subbed and put the bell on
awesome. Thank you
Having watched you service Betty on Hubnuts channel had to come & see your video. No drain plug on the auto gearbox sumps are a pain. Mine is the same & its always messy taking sump off. I've added myself as a subsciber to your channel.
Awesome, thank you
Nicely done sir... hurrah!! funny that i'd just discovered your channel recently (for a soon to be procured 59 moggy) and just in time for a convergence of great blokes, umm either Ian is shorter than i imagined or you are fairly tall.
Thank you. I shall be back on the moggy soon! I am fairly tall
Or a combination of their respective heights!
Good to see Ian and youurself JV ing, I have subbed.
Thanks and welcome
Thanks very much for helping Ian. .
It was my pleasure
What can I say? You are very skilful, Betty will be happy (so will Ian!)
Thank you. It was definitely in need of some maintenance
Also note if the fill plug is to tight you can fit a 16 mil hex but not a 12 point (as it’s easier to round off!) And get a breaker bar it will give you better leverage and fits this ensures you that you will not strip the bolt, it can be over tightend don’t over tighten them just snug and little bit torque is good enough. Good vid👍
Hope you gave Hubnut lots of tea 😀
Looks like Betty needed a oil change.
HubNut made the tea whilst I was flat on my back 😀
Badgertronix, just like Hubnut 😄
How’s the Morris coming along? Really enjoying the videos 👍
Autos are always bad when low on fluid glad to see that you were able to give a dear hubnut a tweek in the right direction towards happy driving days
Thanks
Top work mate I’ve seen a new filter making wonders to gearbox issues, good for another 288k 😊👍👍👍 farewell pshhhhl 😉
Our roads can be tough on cars so some much needed maintenance after HubNut's 4000ish KMs was a must. I got to experience the pshhhhhh first hand!
Badgertronix 🤣🤣🙌👍
Bit of a surprise I must have been lucky, my Au series 1 had a drain plug.
Looking at that trans fluid it hasn't had any love for a while. Going by the metallic fallout been low for a while. If it was going to be a long term keeper it would probably be worth doing the fuel filter and slipping out an injector to check their filters. Dead easy job if not a bit fiddly and if they are dirty it really livens them up. Also the fuel rail pressure regulators suffer from blockages in these as well another cheap fix and when you replace the standard unit you can fit an Tickford VCT/xr6 unit that gives a bit more injector pressure that adds a little more power.
Great Video.
I'm sure there is plenty more tinkering that could be done on that car. We didn't have endless time so stuck to the basics. Cheers
Two of my fave channels in one.
awesome. Glad we could oblige
MrButtonpresser totally agree.
Hey just another HubNut sub coming over to have a look around. Heres a sub for you dude.
Welcome aboard
great work. much needed maintenance
Definitely much needed! Cheers
Needed a new output shaft bush and seal . Also servo piston housing leaking on side of transmission .
It was a $1500 car. It needed fluid and a filter at the most...
Nice one on the service Badgertronix. What brand was the tea, was it of the UK variety?
It was Bell Kenya Bold. A recent discovery and one of the better teas I've had in a while
Excellent - was hoping there'd be a HubNut / Badgertronix crossover special episode!
We made it happen
Thank you for showing us Betty getting some much needed love and attention. :-)
Thanks for watching
Don't AUs have an auto trans dipstick tube to fill from?
How are you supposed to check the trans oil?
No dipstick. They have a fill/level hole on the side. Sealed for life, no checking required according to Ford
Hi ! At 3:10+ a few moments ... that's the point where sensible people feel an urge to go to the toilet ... :-)
I wonder what this "lifetime oil-fill" is all about. Judging after the color of the ATF it should have been changed *years* earlier. Just filling the thing up is not really recommended. But what. Nice job you did on Betty.
Lifetime fill fluids are just a con to make running costs look good to fleet buyers. We followed the factory fill procedure on the Fairmont so it should be all good. Cheers
I see the manager was there at the end, you should have introduced him👍 Very please you mentioned Scotty K. Shows respect irrespective of who is right. I suspect leave alone, but top up maybe. I am a new follower based in London UK. Constructive comment: sound at start could have been better. I loved the smoke.😂😂😂😂👍🍷
Audio is always a nightmare filming outdoors without a camera crew/soundman. Cheers
Aren’t you supposed to fill transmission with engine running?
carn`t belive a fellow yam yam on the show
Wow,those alloys look amazing. I wonder who cleaned them....
I had my pressure washer ready to make Betty sparkle but someone beat me to it
I have the 2000 au series 2 fairmont. Would it be the same transmission service as the 2001 fairmont?. I would like to do this to my car. Awesome video and knowledge 👌
I'm not too sure, but I would have thought it should be close
How much does it cost Ford to fit a bloody drain plug!
too much apparently!
Ford have been the master of cost cutting since the 1960's but you pay over he odds for the products and parts in recent years...
They want you to scrap the car when the auto starts playing up!
How can I get au V8 gearbox to be fitted into EF ford fairmont ghia and I know some put au ECU or TCU into most EF falcon/Fairmont ghias
Was there an issues with the tranny to start with? I just bought an AU tonner and it’s good when cold be changes rough from 1-2nd when warmed up. I’m thinking bands maybe?
Is there no dipstick for the transmission fluid ?
No there isn't
@@Badgertronix That is so amazing ! Not even a warning light !
Most manufacturers deleted dipsticks on their autos , some before this model falcon
Awesome stuff !!!!
Thanks for watching
What type of oil filter do u u
So good, I just had to subscribe!
Awesome, thanks!
Would you know how to do the same but on a Ford xr6 2012? Been doing it for the last 2 hours but don’t know where to refill it from
What issues was he having ?

You forgot Cleetus McFarland. I'll have to build a Barra to compete with Leroy
Hey mate, just a question, where did you place that tube to fill the gearbox? Mine is totally empty and I need to fill it, it’s already in the car and and somehow leaked out
There's a fill hole on the side of the transmission
Man that oil was putrid. Much longer and it would have been too late I suspect. Ready for it's 8000km tour and eventual export to GB.
It was a bit grim. Definitely much needed
Can someone explain why the hell Ford didn't put a drain plug on that ???
drain plugs are expensive maybe?
You have to remove the pan to change the filter , just use a bigger drain pan
i enjoyed watching cool videos 👍
Thanks
Smiles (and tea) all round. Pshhhtttttttttt.
Indeed. Cheers!
i think I would be wearing safety glasses when doing this just in case of unintended spillage.
A bit bizarre referring to a manual for torque tightening sequence. Odd thinking 4·5Nm is a bit low and then you go and say you've got the right oil for the car. How can it be when it's got Castrol written on the container ?
mobiloil.com/~/media/amer/us/pvl/products/automatic-transmission-fluids/mobil-type-f-atf/products/mobil-type-f-atf-automatic-transmission-fluid.jpg
Is there a point to your babblings or are you just having a bad day?
@@Badgertronix I'm having a bad life having to share it with idiots !
@@millomweb couldn't agree more
@@Badgertronix Hmm, I thought you'd escaped them !
Oh and Type F fluid as you have linked would be incorrect.
www.castrol.com/en_nz/new-zealand/products/cars/automatic-transmission-fluids/transmax-tq95.html
As a HubNut subscriber, I wanted to get your perspective having seen Ian's video. It looks like you changed the transmission fluid and filter before it was too late. If the clutch packs are badly burnt a fluid change wouldn't help. It looks like Betty's hadn't reached that point.
I've seen worse and I think it will be fine for some time to come. Cheers
i came here cos Mr Hubnut
Cheers
Pity the Powershift box is not as straight forward.....excellent video as per.
Thank you. The powershift does have up to 3 drain plugs though
@@Badgertronix My mates 2.2 has the Aisen box. He took it in for a service. Turned up later to be told....sealed for life....they don't change the oil on those!!!!! He's currently looking into a independent garage to see if he can get it done. Crazy.
It is a slap in the face (so to speak) to manufacture the oilpan without a drain plug!! Seems Scotty Kilmer is O.K. with spill and fill but not with complete flush. Cheers from Canada
Given that upwards of 90% of what comes out of Scotty Killer's mouth it utter drivel, it's hardly surprising.
It's annoying but I guess it's fairly easy to drop the pan then at least you can clean the magnet whilst you're in there. Can't say I've ever paid much attention to anything Scotty has said.
@@Badgertronix The problem with dropping the pan is often access, with undertrays in the way, with dozens of either seized or easily broken fasteners. This can often turn a relatively straightforward job into a nightmare. It's why I bought hand operated suction pump to do friends and family's oil changes. I'd rather undo a sump plug but have had bad experiences with said undertrays. Luckily Ian's car didn't seem to have one?
Wondered when Ian was going to turn up...suppose it was inevitable really! At least Betty's more reasonable than most of the jobs he's taken on...suppose she must've cost more than a tenner!
It was great that he did. Betty is a fine automobile
Well done, he may have been snookered if you hadn't helped out when you did...
Falcons are tough old birds but I'm sure Betty appreciated the attention
Ian Tha HubNut send me ;)
just had to sub
so i did ;) cheers mate
Awesome. Welcome 😊
Wow..... that's a super sensitive microphone....
Audio setup is any UA-camr's nightmare. No ducks were trodden on in the making of this video presentation
Bloody awesome cars to have. Pretty sure you could have filled it though the tranny dipstick, save you being uncomfortable under the old girl. 80 in first is kinda stupid for Australian roads.
Draining the gear box - would have been easier if you drilled a drain hole into it and sealed it up with chewing gum/kiwi dung or whatever afterwards !
PS I'm one of Ian's dregs too.
Need a big hole to fit the filter through
It's a shame that new oil will be black and smelly within a week....It's the nature of the beast mate...You were probably 14 the last time you pumped like that...lol...
Very true but at least it's not a litre short of where it should be. Cheers mate
It will still be better than before, the brake band 'dust' goes into the oil, the filter must remove the worst, but something must remain.
@@Radfordperson The 'dust' should be fairly harmless - to soft to cause gear wear and too small to prop valves open far enough to be an issue.
Nice one 👍
Cheers
subscribed :D
thanks
thumbs up shared
thanks buddy
I think Scotty Kilmer warns against the commercial pressure flushing machines offered in the USA more than the type of fluid change featured in this video. The pressure flushers will disturb and reditribute any crud hiding harmlessly in "backwaters" of the system. He does seem to be a doom and gloom merchant at times with such advice as "don't look at your car this way or it'll destroy itself in five minutes"! But his advice is basically sound.
My car (Honda Accord) has a combined dipstick/filler tube so I can use a hand operated suction pump to drain it and refill from above.
The old spill and fill is usually pretty safe regardless of transmission state of health. Cheers
Cheers
Scary times
indeed
And a sub from me :-) Nice job!
Awesome, thank you
Man that fluid is shagged black. At 9.35 you can clearly see the rear servo is leaking. Should have carried out this ua-cam.com/video/G3l6dcYWqpA/v-deo.html repair as well.
That sounds like more effort than we were ever going to put into that car
Why would anyone buy a new car over there as the old ones do not seem to rust away like they do in the uk I think that I would still be driving my 1965 vauxhall cresta with a 3.3 cc engine I loved it but rust got the better of it in the end back in the 1970s.
Classics everywhere for that very reason
👍👍👍👍
With that many miles welding in a drain bung would be a waste of time. Good for the rest of its days.
agreed. These things were used as taxis a lot and go for 6-7-800,000kms. Cheers buddy
I got into trouble with my wife for a very small oil dribble on her new block paving.
Your tsunami of oil would have ended in divorce and/or a shallow grave.
Luckily I used protection 😉 not a drop on the driveway
OMG - 3:15 - what kind of rubbish is that? Every box containg oil and other liquid stuff in engines should have a single plug on the bottom to let fluids out.... And from 17:00 , some crazy refilling. Pump oil in from below and wait for it to run out of the box, then it´s done :-)
Some hillbilly Ford engineering here.
Cheers, Bernd
Thanks for watching 😊
If you flush it you might have problems
We didn't and we didn't
This is not the way , you want to do a proper full transmission flush by removing transmission line and pumping fluid through car until fluid goes clear while engines running ! All you are doing here is leaving old trans fluid in torque convertor which contaminates any new fluid , now there are people who claim dont do trans flushes however they are wrong
I'd say that you're wrong. For this car I'd just change the fluid again next time it was serviced then most of the old fluid will have been replaced without the risks of flushing
Might work for other tansmissions but not the BTR series on falcons
Better not to flush , if the fluid is dirty/burnt like this , just do another service ( changing the filter ) in a short interval , changing 4 litres out of 9 odd total a couple of times will see nice clean red fluid .
On this on this turn round er ford lol
You only changed half of the fluid!!!.... you dumped new on old?? Why!
