He does actually say "manager" after a pause; it's just obscured by the other dialogue. Also, the coffee shop customer Tim Roth calls "long-haired yuppie scum" is producer Roger Avary.
One of my favorite things about this movie is how nearly every plot point is driven by someone making a colossal blunder. Mia mistaking the cocaine for heroin, Vincent shooting Marvin in the face, Fabian forgetting Butch's watch, etc. Also, there's a fantastic understated cause and effect throughout the movie - why did Mia make that mistake? Because the drug dealer was out of balloons, which is usually what heroin is sold in. Why didn't Vincent hear Butch making his Pop-Tarts? Because Vincent thought it was Marcellus returning with the coffee and donuts. Why was Marcellus staking out the apartment with Vincent? Because Jules quit the life after the events of the previous morning. There are other examples that slip my mind right this second, but they're all throughout the movie, even though little to no attention is called to them.
Not that far from "No Country for Old Men", mere incidents and innuendo drives the story forward. Basically, this is life, there is no master narrative, there never was.

When Zed says "Bring out the Gimp," I could distinctly recall the audience(and myself) having absolutely _no_ idea what to expect next. Everyone heard it, no one could comprehend it. One thing I read about QT and Samuel L. Jackson's work together, was that Jackson was an actor who doesn't speak Tarantino's words, he _sings_ them. 1994 was an amazing time to go see movies. So many Classic spellbinding movies were released that year it's hard to wrap your head around. Check out the list: Pulp Fitction, Leon: The Professional, The Lion King, Forrest Gump, The Shawshank Redemption, Interview with a Vampire, True Lies, Speed, Dumb and Dumber, Natural Born killers, Quiz Show, Clerks, The Hudsucker Proxy, The Crow, The Mask, Ace VEntura: Pet Detective.
And don't forget Star Trek Generations, In The Mouth Of Madness, The Madness of King George, Four Weddings and a Funeral, Nobody's Fool, Crooklyn, Hoop Dreams, Chungking Express, The Last Seduction, Three Colours: Red, Fresh, and Once Were Warriors. I almost forgot The Legend of The Drunken Master, which wasn't released in North America several years later. 1994 was an incredible year for movies. There were so many in the 90's.
I love the way QT writes movies. It's the dialog-heaviness that gets me. It's like reading Greek classics where you can tell it's a flow of random conversations the writer has had in their heads by themselves tons of times.
I have to agree with Martini on this one. I've tried to read Homer's Odyssey before, "natural conversation" is not something that comes to mind. Telemachus: "Greetings, stranger; you shall be welcome in our house when you have had your supper. Tell me what I can do for you." Athena: "You are a bold man, Telemachus, and you ought not to be so shy, nor so fearful of other people. You have been strong enough in the past to seek your father's return, and now it is time to do so with even greater vigor. If your father is dead, you must still find out the truth and bring it home to those who wish to destroy your house and your birthright. Have courage, and tell those suitors to go back to their homes. As for the journey you seek, I will help you. Get a vessel ready, choose the best crew you can find, and set out at once to inquire after your father who has so long been missing. Someone may tell you something, or (and people often hear things in this way) some heaven-sent message may direct you. If you feel you cannot go yourself, put the matter into the hands of the best of the suitors, for I know they will be glad enough to act." It just rolls off the tongue, like you're a fly on the wall.
14:00 High school dances in the 50s were known as "Sock hops" because they were generally held in the gym and everyone had to take off their shoes to avoid scuffing up the floor. It would make sense for a 50s themed restaurant to follow the same convention for a twist contest.
One great little hint in the Ezekiel 25:17 scene is that when Jules asks Brett if he has read the bible, you notice that Vincent already starts cocking his gun and holding it in front of himself, indicating that he knows Jules is about to unload on Brett. It's a brilliant way of telegraphing to the audience of what's going to happen before it happens.
Pulp and Inglorious Basterds are still my 2 fav QT movies. The combination if dialogue, drama, dark humor and over the top violence are what us misanthropes love.
I always liked to think that Vincent being in the bathroom at the restaurant was his "second chance" if you look at it from Jules point of view. He survived the same crazy miracle that Jules did, and Jules understood that you only get one of those. Next time something like that happened he would be dead. Vincent didnt see it that way, and he walked out of the bathroom into what couldve been a life or death situation, and he walked away alive ignorantly thinking that he could continue his lifestyle. Jules got out of the life and got to see another day. Vincent on the otherhand once again found himself surprised by a man with a gun and his luck had run dry. His own gun at that. Vincent died because of his carelessness and arrogance. Shouldve got out while he had the chance.
One thing about Quentin Tarantino that he appreciates vintage music and he makes sure that whatever story he's telling fits that music. If you get the chance to react to *KILL BILL* music definitely plays a role in that movie.
Hey Arianna. I hope you notice that every time Vincent has gone to the bathroom (3 times), something bad happens. Plus you caught that he was reading the same book in all the instances. The reason he was always in the bathroom, was from the fact that Vincent gave up Herione after the Mia overdose incident. Heroine makes you constipated. Once Vincent gave it up, he had to go to the bathroom all the time.
Herion addiction also gives you muscle spasms that are hard to notice. So lets assume like a proper cool killer, Vincent had some trigger work done for a smooth trigger pull, it becomes clear Marvin was an accident.
The book is a spy novel "Modesty Blaise". Weirdly, a main character in the novel is a detective Tarrant. Close enough to the name Tarantino. Also a long time host in the UK show "Who wants to be a millionaire?" had this same name.

You don't know how refreshing it is to watch someone actually laugh at the dark humor that Tarantino purposefully injects into all of his films. Most people today...the humor just goes right over their heads as they watch stone-faced. (So much so that when people see dark comedies, they state that "it's tonally all over the place" when in reality, it's just them). What an absolute treat to watch someone enjoy this movie for what it was supposed to be back in 1994. Awesome reaction video!

I can't tell you how much I envy the experience you had here. By the time I saw Pulp Fiction I knew basically every plot point. Being able to go in totally green in 2022 is really a special experience.
Vincent may be a liability, but Fabianne is useless. She literally faces such tasks as "remember to take the watch when packing suitcases" and "get on the bike quickly", and somehow that's too demanding on her fragile little heart and mind.
ever since Pulp Fiction, phone never stopped ringing for Samuel L Jackson. it made him an international Superstar even though he had been acting for decades. he has never had an off-day since then. at the same time, John Travolta was waning with his career as well, but just like Samuel L Jackson catapulted his acting career, this was the break John Travolta needed.
I loved Butch stopping and rethinking his decision to leave Marcellus. He's like "He's an organised crime boss and wants to kill me but I can't leave someone get raped"
Also hearkens back to his dad's buddy's talk about how two men who've gone through a tough time together owe each other an obligation. Double ironic because the buddy's obligation was shoving something up hjs ass, Butch's obligation is to keep something out of Marsellus' ass.
At the time I remember hearing 2 things around that I now have attributed to this film. I was sheltered growing up. “What they call a Quarter pounder…” and “ A daddy tomato, a momma tomato…”
There's nothing to support that at all, that's just supposition based on some of the throwback-y elements in the film. As pointed out there are too many more modern items to suggest it was set in the 70s.
About the conversational script- THIS is the movie that revolutionized movie dialogue and made it feel like actual conversation. No one had ever had two hit men talking about foot massages on the way up to do a job. I'm sure all of us has had a fantastic day hanging out with a friend when the conversation really didn't extend much deeper than gym bags and donuts. Also, really good job picking up on Mia confusing the heroin for coke. Remember back at Lance's where Vince got the dope, Lance was out of balloons and had to sell the H in a baggie. And that was five-dollar milkshake dripping from her mouth when she was OD'ing.
Samuel L Jackson did win an academy award for best supporting actor in this film just because of that scene... In fact pulp fiction in general won the academy award across the board best picture best director...

I was pregnant when I first saw this and my brother was flabbergasted when I shared it with him and my sister in law. The humor balances the violence, in my point of view. I haven't seen the Hudsucker Proxy in ages! Thanks for the reminder to watch it again soon.
And Tim Burton's "Ed Wood." Tarantino said that was his favorite movie of 1994.
the mask and ace ventura came out in the same year?
And don't forget Star Trek Generations, In The Mouth Of Madness, The Madness of King George, Four Weddings and a Funeral, Nobody's Fool, Crooklyn, Hoop Dreams, Chungking Express, The Last Seduction, Three Colours: Red, Fresh, and Once Were Warriors. I almost forgot The Legend of The Drunken Master, which wasn't released in North America several years later. 1994 was an incredible year for movies. There were so many in the 90's.
I have a real soft spot for true lives
I love the way QT writes movies. It's the dialog-heaviness that gets me. It's like reading Greek classics where you can tell it's a flow of random conversations the writer has had in their heads by themselves tons of times.
It was interesting he also played a part in this movie. He had done that before in From Dusk Till Dawn
how many greek classics have you read?
@Karla Howell I'm fairly certain he does it in all his movies. He was in Reservoir Dogs as well
I have to agree with Martini on this one. I've tried to read Homer's Odyssey before, "natural conversation" is not something that comes to mind.
Telemachus: "Greetings, stranger; you shall be welcome in our house when you have had your supper. Tell me what I can do for you."
Athena: "You are a bold man, Telemachus, and you ought not to be so shy, nor so fearful of other people. If you feel you cannot go yourself, put the matter into the hands of the best of the suitors, for I know they will be glad enough to act."
It just rolls off the tongue, like you're a fly on the wall.
This is the first Pulp Fiction reaction I've seen where the reactor knew the difference between coke and heroin.
Well done. 500+ street smart points.
Agreed.
But I have to go -500 for no post-mortem review after the movie. Yes she chatted a bit along the way, but left us a hollow ending 🤷🏽♂

14:00 High school dances in the 50s were known as "Sock hops" because they were generally held in the gym and everyone had to take off their shoes to avoid scuffing up the floor. It would make sense for a 50s themed restaurant to follow the same convention for a twist contest.
Nice factoid- I missed the sock hop generation, but I figured that socks were a part of it.
That and Tarantino has a foot fetish so...
Jody was excited because that adrenaline shot to the heart was the ultimate piercing.
Okay, fine... kudos.
I would say it's ti show that this is their routine, not to telegraph to the audience
Hes also shows slight annoyance cause he has to listen to it over and over.
“Needles freaked me out, man”…. Get ready to get FREAKKED OUT .
I just started laughing when she said that. That is some grade A+ 10/10 foreshadowing.
Jesus Christ. How many times must I have to correct the ignorance of some people? THE GUN WAS MARCELLUS WALLACE'S! NOT VINCE'S!!!!
@@DerOberfeldwebel ahhhh. I didn't know that. That's an awesome tidbit
The bathroom scene at the restaurant took place before the overdose so he didnt necessarily quit.
The book is a spy novel "Modesty Blaise". Weirdly, a main character in the novel is a detective Tarrant. Close enough to the name Tarantino. Also a long time host in the UK show "Who wants to be a millionaire?" had this same name.
@@81pdmatt Where does that assumption even come from that he quit? Or is it part of "the book"? I don't know too much about this movie and only saw it like twice.
Very genuine reaction! Yes, you should be laughing. Welcome to the Tarantino universe.

Fun fact, Walken's father is German who spoke broken English and had to pause to think of the rest of the sentence, which is where is speech pattern comes from.
No, Walken said himself that he rewrites his scripts by taking out all of the punctuation and memorizes them with pauses in different places.

I died laughing when Arianna said “That’s why you don’t take other people’s drugs.” instead of “That’s why you don’t take drugs.”
Came to the comments for this, thank you! 😂
It's true though, even with prescriptions you should not be taking other people's drugs.
@@twelvecatsinatrenchcoat well obviously. It’s just rude.
@@jmhjmhjmh It's less that it's rude, and more that you could hurt yourself or them. Even taking someone's prescription can throw off their re-up, cause them to confuse and miss important doses, or they might have mixed bottles and labels, they might even be hiding pills in different bottles.

Fun Fact: The discussion Mia and Vincent had about The Fox Force Five was actually the beginning of what turned out to be Kill Bill.
So. Back of the neck is where some cultures say your soul comes from. So big theory is that Marcelllas had his soul in the briefcase. That’s why he had the bandaid on his neck.

Arianna, your reactions always Rock! You really smashed this one, loved it!!
Hmm, her reactions were ok during the film, but pretty much ZERO closing? She was out 1 second after the ending?? Disappointing.
33:09 “Oh man, I shot Marvin in the face.”
One of the greatest lines of all time.
The motorcycle is called "Grace" because the underlying theme of the movie is "saving grace" as evident by the people that keep getting saved or spared
Haha, Arianna, when Butch and Fabienne ride off on the chopper and you said, "That's not the end?" That is the end of the chronological story!
A 1994 $5 dollars shake, adjusted for inflation, would be $10 shake today.
and in a few more months that shake will be 20 or 25 bucks.
The story was based in the 70s you can tell by Jules phone
Tops $15.
I understood Butch's blowup. Losing a family heirloom is soul crushing especially when it's something from a father to son
Especially when his father and captain Coons went to such extreme lengths to get him the watch.

I am so glad that another person got to watch this movie! The perfect combination of gore, humour and endless exposition.
When Vince goes to his dealer he says he's out of balloons and asks him if it's okay to put it in a coke baggy, so Mia thinks it's coke.
I didn't think there was anyone who haven't seen Pulp Fiction
So jealous of you watching _Pulp Fiction_ for the first time. Would gladly have this part of my memory wiped ready to discover its glory anew.

No doubt this will be a trip. Congrats on getting it put together. See ya'll later. :)
This is an awesome movie and this put Travolta back in the spot light his career blew up again.
Vince is always on the toilet because of constipation, he wants to go, but cannot, side effect of all the drugs he took.

I can't tell you how much I envy the experience you had here. By the time I saw Pulp Fiction I knew basically every plot point. Being able to go in totally green in 2022 is really a special experience.
Vincent may be a liability, but Fabianne is useless. She literally faces such tasks as "remember to take the watch when packing suitcases" and "get on the bike quickly", and somehow that's too demanding on her fragile little heart and mind.
right? and her obsession with pot bellies. that girl isn't wrapped too tight.
Fabienne is fine but has no business with a guy like butch. She needs to be with a gift shop worker. Not a man doing crime
ever since Pulp Fiction, phone never stopped ringing for Samuel L Jackson. it made him an international Superstar even though he had been acting for decades. he has never had an off-day since then. at the same time, John Travolta was waning with his career as well, but just like Samuel L Jackson catapulted his acting career, this was the break John Travolta needed.
Chad. I survived the tornadoes. Thanks for posting this so quick!
Great movie. Be well
Excellent!
@10:10 'Needles freak me out' Oooh nooo...😅😅
You can't go wrong with Tarantino Movies. Not a bad one in the bunch.
And that right there is one of the best screenplays ever made. Legend.
The movie is based in the 70s
Early 80s, at least
(Flock of Seagulls reference) some of the background vehicles.
Yeah and Vincent calls his dealer on a cell phone.
Didn't Mr. Wolf arrive in an NSX??
Predator 2 please
Samuel L Jackson did win an academy award for best supporting actor in this film just because of that scene... In fact pulp fiction in general won the academy award across the board best picture best director...
Wrong. Jackson didn't win that year. The only Oscar it won was Best Original Screenplay. Please do your research next time.

It is such a great movie. And the dialogue is great. There is a lot of humor in it too, as well as the violence.

At the 23:55 mark, that scene where hitman John Travolta gets blown away is pretty sweet.
"i did not see that coming." One of the most uttered phrases at pretty much any Tarantino film.
The best reaction to Pulp Fiction on YT, hands down. Keep up the good work.
I'm loving your reactions. I think you might be the first reactor I've seen who knew what was going on with Mia finding Vincent's stuff and thinking it's something else
What makes this movie so great is that the majority of the cast were already seasoned actors. This film took them into the fucking stratosphere. And it was beautiful to witness.
The whole Bonnie Situation sequence is my absolute favourite story in this whole movie. Loved your reaction to the movie.
"Needles freak me out!" - Arianna
*laughs evilly knowing what's coming* - me
I was pregnant when I first saw this and my brother was flabbergasted when I shared it with him and my sister in law. The humor balances the violence, in my point of view. And yes sister, we have dark humor but that's ok! My youngest daughter is of the same ilk. I taped the soundtrack but left out the swearing in the beginning. It is an amazing soundtrack for true! We would play it during family drives. 😹 Of course, our girls didn't see the movie till much later. I got to say, this is my second time watching you and your reactions mirror mine quite often. So glad to have found you! Thank you for sharing! 😽💋📽
I think there are very few movies that really deliver more than just entertainment the first time you see them, and I think Pulp Fiction is one of those movies. It's a game changer. The first time I saw it I was stunned by everything about it. The soundtrack, the structure, the writing, the acting...who knew a metric system joke could be combined with violence so memorably?
This is one of my favourite movies and I have seen it so many times I lost count. Glad that you loved it too. :)
Your reactions were so great and genuine; what I loved the most you didn't talk over the movie the whole time.
Definately one of the best reactions I have seen so far.
When this came out my buddy worked at the theatre and about 10 of us watched from the closed balcony on Saturday night. We had already seen it once, so this time we brought cheeseburgers in so we could eat them with Jules. I'm amazed that you were tracking the various story lines so well. I had lost track of the clothes and the restaurant on my first viewing. It was really exciting to see this in the theatre with a full house. The place was buzzing with how intense and different this was at that time.

This is my alltime favorite movie since the first time i saw it in 94 and i love to see you reaction! It's actually amazing how its still kept some of its shock value this many years later.
Every time I see an Arianna reaction, I gotta watch it...!!! Love your reactions.
Heroin tends to cause constipation. Thus Vincent's long stretches reading the bathroom.
The "Twist" scene in Act II was really hyped up at the time this movie came out because John Travolta was STILL living high off of his famous role in 'Saturday Night Fever' nearly 15 years prior to this. I'm pretty sure this was the first on-camera dance scene he had shot since his disco days.
He wasn't "living high..." up to that point. He was basically down and out of hollywood till this movie. This movie was like the syringe of adrenaline for his career.
This is the very definition of a "perfect script". Not a line out of place, not a single word unnecessary. To this day, Tarantino's magnum opus!
The movie is just elevated by the dialogue alone ..cant wait for Arianna to react to hateful eight
