FINALLY! Something that's actually helpful!! Most people say "put more emotion, use your speaking voice!" But what if your speaking voice is also very boring? Focussing too much on technique might be a problem for me.
I am a Vocal Teacher, singer and concert producer, and I can tell you, THIS ⬆️ is the MOST important facet of singing and performing. Remember that we as singers ARE actors. Thank you for presenting this, it is the most essential learning tool.
The message in this video is so very important and the importance will probably be overlooked by most of the viewers. It is the difference between a vocal master and their back up singers. If you watch singers like Whitney Houston, CeCe Winans, or Eva Cassidy, they let the lyric guide their emotions. As the lyric changes so does the emotion they feel and show to their audience. Also, great singers have great mental pictures and it also sounds as if in their mind they are speaking to someone specific. Get to the level where your technique is second nature and focus on what you are trying to say.
Wow Thankyou Mike. This made real sense. I am such a self critical over thinker and know I have a dynamic voice that I keep self sabotaging and making it too mechanical rather than natural with emotion. That little voice in my head which always comes out to play just when I want to sing.
can you make a video about how to how to breath diaphragmatically and how to feel support notes and how to release right amount for a low note to high notes. plsss.... it will be pleasure for me and for us...
This is great advice. I am so focused on having my technique down that in the studio I can't connect when I need more emotion. I prefer live singing because it's more organic and spontaneous. I feel inauthentic trying to "produce" emotion on que.
For some reasons, YT hid this video. I searched for it but couldn't find it until Eric collaborated with him to search his name. This video helped me understood what I didn't know I know
Hey! Great tip with the emotion connection of a facial expression. Will try it for sure. But to me it seems there is a much deeper way to connect your mind to lyrics. Saying in 2 words: being real - i think its the best way to connect emotions to a vocal. But there is something more. As Drake said about lil wayne writing process: you got to find it in your mind. Maybe there is the truth
I’m a senior and my voice hasn’t caught a frog yet. I can sing a little however, my contralto voice needs proper training. Where can I get a singing coach in Washington, D.C.?
hey Mike! Great advice I love you and Eric as vocal instructors and respect your opinions. I really love to sing and want to get better. I brought the singing programs a while ago, unfortunately I haven't been as consistent in the past but now I'm ready to work hard to get the results I want. I do have a few questions so could I email you and ask them?
