Hi Kevin, wonderful carving as always. It is amazing to watch as you make each character come to life as you carve. I hope you will be able to post a video on carving Frank. I have not, as of yet, tried to carve ears. Maybe sometime you could make a video on carving an ear. I hope to see you over the summer. Thanks.
Thanks Bruce. I will do a similar one to Frank later. Maybe I will do a closeup on an ear of the way I do them. I will be at the museum a couple of times this summer. Not sure on the dates yet. I will let you know
He may be short, but he makes up for it with the swagger and attitude in his expression. I think we all knew someone like that at one point or another. Will we be treated to a video on creating Frank next? And by the way, thanks for the not so difficult eyes on this one, I'm still struggling with the fancier ones.
Picked up a couple of used Green River 5" boning knives. Going to try and modify to duplicate your blades. Looks like the ones you use frequently on vids are maybe a 3 plus inch and a 2 inch or so. Any advice from the fish knife pro ? Thanks.
Hello Kevin. I live in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. Sourcing good carving wood is very difficult in my province and area. Is it difficult to work with pine? Does it split easily? Is there a grade or quality of pine wood that you choose? I have only been using basswood which can be prohibitively expense to get shipped into my province. Like many others, I love it when you do these character types!
I get my pine at Home Hardware. It's not all perfect. You get use to carving pine and you kinda know the pieces to pick. I think it comes in from Nova Scotia or New Brunswick. It's 2"×10"×10'. It's $60 plus for a 10' length. Quite a few 6" characters in a piece that length.
Those fellers have seen some stuff, great result again, love Shorty and love your style Kevin.
No doubt they have. Thanks Terry
It's always a pleasure watching you work Kevin, fantastic keep up the good work.
Thank you sir

Mr.coates fantastic as usual. I need to make more time for carving. Do you carve every day ?
7 days a week I'm doing it. Thanks Jim
È spettacolare tutto quello che fai con quel coltello, complimenti
Thank you
Damn how strong is that fish knife? Epic video! Could you carve an army soldier holding a gun next?
They are sturdy knives for sure. Maybe one day when I get enough free time to do one like that

Thank you Joe. These kind of characters are the ones I like doing most. The eyes are simple but still work. I’ll do a similar one like Frank soon

Kevin has a video on how to make the knife like this one.

Thanks Cory. I grew up looking at these old fellas.

That's beautiful.. what kind of wood do you use, Kevin?
Thank you. It’s white pine with everything I do now.
@@KevinCoates98 Thanks. Wow everyone seems to use basswood. Why do you use it? You obviously like it better than basswood, and where do you get it?
