- Cyprus in the 1800s and early 1900s in photos. Cyprus was inhabited since the Paleolithic age and colonized by the Greek races starting as early as the 14th century BC. Cyprus has a long histrory of conquerors. Assyrians, Egyptians, Persians, Romans, Byzantines, Knights Templar, Lusignans, Venetians. In 1571 Cyprus falls under the Ottoman occupation that lasted until 1878. In 1878 Cyprus comes under the British rule. Cyprus gains independence in 1960.
Very nostalgic; reminds us of what we have lost. As Proust famously and enigmatically said "Les vrais paradis sont les paradis qui on a perdu" (The real paradises are those that we have lost). The illustrations range from 1878 (Illustrated London News) to just after WWII.

Good ol' Cyprus before the globalization and multiculturalism 😢
Well... Good luck with that, wise mboy. You can't count Byzantines among the conquerors of Cyprus, because by definition Byzantium is the Hellenized, Greek period of the Roman empire.
Mostly Turkish before the Greeks kicked us out
