    This is why I want unedited copies of all WB and Merrie Melodies, among all the other WW II cartoons.
    So they can still be used to entertain, as well as remind one of what we went theough 80 years qgo. So it wont happen again.

    • @PeriscopeFilm
      @PeriscopeFilm 4 місяці тому +2

      Here's the issue: Tens of thousands of films similar to this one have been lost forever -- destroyed -- and many others are at risk. Our company preserves these precious bits of history one film at a time. How do we afford to do that? By selling them as stock footage to documentary filmmakers and broadcasters. If we did not have a counter, we could not afford to post films like these online, and no films would be preserved. It's that simple. So we ask you to bear with the watermark and timecodes.
      In the past we tried many different systems including placing our timer at the bottom corner of our videos. What happened? Unscrupulous UA-cam users downloaded our vids, blew them up so the timer was not visible, and re-posted them as their own content! We had to use content control to have the videos removed and shut down these channels. It's hard enough work preserving these films and posting them, without having to spend precious time dealing with policing thievery -- and not what we devoted ourselves to do.
      Love our channel and want to support what we do? You can help us save and post more orphaned films! Support us on Patreon: www.patreon.com/PeriscopeFilm Even a really tiny contribution can make a difference.

    The tank the 3 leaders share is funny: numerous cannons aiming any which way, the ones on the side are like galleon fighting sailing ships of yore. And best is the oversized kaiser helmet spike- extra funny touch. The goose-stepping geese; one getting its rump by Hitler- watta meanie! Another funny segment. Really well animated. Thanks for the background about this film. I recognized UK, US, & China but not the 4th. flag...anyone know what it was? Or still is...had to be a country involved after the Yanks got involved, so that’s a bit a timeline to go on..

    • @robertbean8116
      @robertbean8116 5 місяців тому

      Those 4 flags would be China (Republic of China ~which ruled most of the mainland until 1949 when they evacuated to Taiwan, ) , UK, (union jack, not to be confused with CSA rebel flag) , USA , the red flag with hammer & sickle is the old Soviet Union. Since this cartoon dates to the 1940s there have been some changes. The USA has added 2 stars to our flag , and a red banner with 5 yellow stars flies over most of China.

      Flag #1 Republic of China. #2 UK (at that time it was the British empire) #3 USA , # 4 USSR.
      I hope this helps.
      P.S. flags can stir up a lot of emotions, I do not intend to insult anyone's nationalistic feelings.

    Incidentally, the name Schickelgruber on the house where Hitlet lands was the name of the sugar daddy of Hitler's paternal grandfather's wife. There was a rumor that his name should've been Schickelgruber, but his paternal grandfather accepted hitler's father as his own, thus he was Hitler. Had the Russians not captured and later destroyed Hitler's remains, we could've gotten DNA from them, and then dig up his father's grave to see if Der Fuhrer was the son of an illegitimate birth or not.

    I wonder what the outcome would have been if this were to happen today...... Hmm, doesn't bear thinking about.
    I wonder how things might have played out if Hitler had ditched Mussolini earlier in the conflict, or if he'd not gone after the Russians and not burnt his candle at both ends.
    I could just imagine our left leaning liberal governments of today just opening up the country and letting them in, in the vain hope that they'd integrate peacefully into the countries they planned to invade.
    Thank God for Mussolini becoming a ball and chain for Hitler. Thank God we had Winston Churchill, and thank God that the US saw sense after Tojo kicked their arses at Pearl Harbour.
    Such a tragic shame that so many good men and true lost their lives because the US government refused to act in time.

      Not that I would have wanted German success in 1940s but here are the mistakes after his successes in Austria, Backlund, Norway, Poland, Netherlands, Belgium, France...:
      After not breaking the UK with the military asset bombings...to immediately take over the French fleets and use them to blockade the UK cutting them off from America.
      Not invade the USSR until they had secured a forced peace with the UK...that almost happened. Since the Churchill gvt refused, he had to attack the USSR to get the oil, theur refineries and raw materials to maintain control over Europe. Desert oil is not useful without refineries.
      Prevented Japan from declaring war on the US, but instead be satisfied with them declaring war only on the UK as they attacked several UK colonies on Dec 8, 1941....then Australia.
      So, as FDR knew, it was the UK that was the only active finger in the dyke in early 1941...but they only survived with US and Canadian support. Churchill's speech was absolutely correct. Rare for a politician to predict the future correctly.

      @@389383 if they "acted in time" the US would have likely lost an inexperienced Army in Europe in 1940, as the UK would not have evacuated the UK, French, Belgian and US armies in time.
      Are you also hoping the US would have made the initial surprise attack in the Pacific on the main Japanese naval harbour instead of the reverse?
      What happened, happened. As it is, the thinking you put forth has been the US thinking ever since 1941....go in first....nip it in the bud....meddle everywhere....Team America World Police....leader of the free world.
      WW2 in Europe was an European and colonial war, caused by Europeans, over Europe. Europeans have been butchering each other over ethnic hatreds and cropland wars every other decade since before Rome.
      So should the US President and Congress check with you whenever trouble breaks out. 38 says go 👍 no go 👎

    •  5 місяців тому

      @@389383 "the isolationist Republican party" and about 90% of the "Isolationist American population". The US did not want another war after WWI, especially not so soon after. The general sentiment in the US by the majority of the population was to let Europe solve their own problems and keep our young men at home. The US did what they could through the lend lease act and provided the equipment they could to Great Britain. Had Japan not attacked Pearl, I am not sure the US would have gotten involved as early as it did. They may have sat it out longer.
