Awesome looking bike. You made that install look super easy 👌. I see this was posted a few years ago, how has the tape held up adhesive and cosmetic wise? Thanks for sharing.
Just did this on bike after following your tutorial. I had a hell of a time getting it as perfect as I could. You make it look much easier in this video than I had. Finally managed to get it good, but still not 100% perfect. Great product by Tapeworks though.
Hi Jonathan and thanks for all of your great motorcycle videos. My favorite is the pannier review with your dog! Today I installed the same rim stripe kit on my bike based on your video and the nice result you achieved on yours. I am also very happy for the result so thanks again for your installation review!
are you applying pressure on the inside lip of the rim....or....on the outside where the rim meets the tire. I ask as on some rims , the "spokes" , sometimes meet the rims flush. just wondering if the tool can be used on either edge of a rim.. Great ...simple video
Hi Jon Thanks for detailed and informative videos. I didn't have the guts to install my usb charger until I saw your other video. Although my Ninja is 2016 and there were minor differences but I surprisingly managed to get the job done. I was wondering what front wheel choke are you using? are you happy with it?
Hello, and thanks for the nice comment! It is a “MJ Moto Gear” front wheel chock that I bought from Amazon. It looks like it’s currently unavailable, though. It’s a copy of the Baxley Sport Chock, which is more expensive. I love having it. It’s so convenient to use, and it saves space in my garage by keeping the bike upright rather than tipped over on the kickstand.
Hi Jon, Have used 3M rim tape in the past and it wrinkled up on the inside radius, even with their application tool. I put this down to it being straight tape rather than curved segments. Have you found any wrinkling or loss of adhesion of the tape now it has been on for a while? Keen to put some on mine but lacking confidence now on the spend. Cheers,
The tape went on perfectly and there is no wrinkling at all. I know what you mean about crinkling on the inside radius, but that has not happened at all with this tape. Tapeworks includes 2 extra strips, so you can mess up twice, but you shouldn't have any problems if you work slowly and carefully.
I haven’t noticed any peeling so far on mine, but I also had the same concern. Clear coat over the entire thing should protect it. You might want to double check that the reflectivity still works well under clear coat, if that’s important to you.
Nice! I hit a like and subscribe quick question could you send me the link to where you got that from? And the same color I’m looking for the identical thing.
The front wheel stand is by MJ Moto. I got it from Amazon but don’t think it’s available anymore. It’s a copy of the Baxley Sport Chock. The tool that I used to apply the tape is available from Tapeworks.com
One roll of tape includes 6 strips. You only need 4 strips to do both sides of each wheel, so you have 2 extra strips left in case you make a mistake or want to replace on in the future.
Man you need a razor knife instead of the small scissors. But, the stripes look real good. The younger generation says they look “sick”. I hope that means good looking.
Good job. Beautiful bike. I've just subscribed to your channel looking forward to seeing more. Did you test ride the Suzuki gsx1000f? Cheers from Australia 🖒
Hi Flip, I rode the gsxs 1000f on two occasions before I bought my 2017 Ninja thou. The stock pipe sounds much better than the ninja and the motor is probably more edgy, and the bike felt smaller/lighter. However, I found the front on both the gsxs’s I rode (in demo set up) way too hard and chatty in turns. I also found that on both i rode, the throttle was very snatchy - I really didn’t like that and really had to concentrate on throttle position through turns which took away from the fun of riding it. My thought after riding it was that I really liked the idea of the bike but this wasn’t a good enough reason to buy one... and I felt living with it wouldn’t be much fun. I decided on the Ninja thou after two rides and couldn’t be happier. A beautiful creamy lineal engine with plenty of torque and once familiar with the geometry of the chassis, very nice predictable handling, the electronics are also very confidence inspiring. I think the Small things like the overall general finish of the switch gear and plastics are a step above on the kawa too... Hope this helps.
Can you please provide a link to where you bought the tape and a tool

Nice! That reflectivity really makes a difference too!
Nicely done and a great place to work on it. So quiet. Good show.

Awesome job! You've given me hope that I can do this too now!
That was crafty and it looks awesome!!

Both. You apply pressure on the inside lip to keep the tape centered vertically, and you apply pressure on the outside lip to get the tape to stick.
Did the tool come with the tape or did you have to buy separate?
Hi Jon

Jonathan Long thanks mate, appreciate the reply. Cheers
Great vid. Gonna order mines asap for my 2007 honda cbr 600
What color?
Will it fade or peel over time?
I bought some for my car. Just had the rims redone in gloss black. Should I clearcoat the whole thing after I'm done?
I haven’t noticed any peeling so far on mine, but I also had the same concern. Clear coat over the entire thing should protect it. You might want to double check that the reflectivity still works well under clear coat, if that’s important to you.
Bro. I need to buy stripe tools for rim stickers
Nice! I hit a like and subscribe quick question could you send me the link to where you got that from? And the same color I’m looking for the identical thing.
Did you get the tools as well along with the red color tape. else where did you get the tools from
Yes, I got the tools from Tapeworks along with the tape. It made the install very easy.
How to buy this machine
i mean what front stand is it? and where fid you buy those and the tool you use?
The front wheel stand is by MJ Moto. I got it from Amazon but don’t think it’s available anymore. It’s a copy of the Baxley Sport Chock. The tool that I used to apply the tape is available from Tapeworks.com
what kind of front did you use?
That really looks cool
I plan on ordering this does 1 roll work for both sides of each rim?
One roll of tape includes 6 strips. You only need 4 strips to do both sides of each wheel, so you have 2 extra strips left in case you make a mistake or want to replace on in the future.
Jonathan what stand did you use to get your rear wheel up?
I have a T-Rex Racing stand, but there is nothing special about it. Just about any rear stand should work.
Name of the tool
Man you need a razor knife instead of the small scissors. But, the stripes look real good. The younger generation says they look “sick”. I hope that means good looking.
Just a pity that we can't see what you're doing with that camera angle!
I searched “rim job”, this isn’t what I expected
I think you’re searching on the wrong site then!
😂😂😂
How much stripe tool
Where did you order the replacement bolt after removing the reflector from front fender?
I ordered duplicates of the lower bolt from partshark.com. Search for part # 92151-1654.
Not sure if links work in the comments, but here is a direct link: www.partshark.com/oemparts/p/kawasaki/92151-1654/bolt-socket-6x14
Jonathan Long Thank You!
Hi Jonathan - stupid question here but how did you remove the reflector?
WOLF167h I just turned the reflector with my hand. You rotate it counter clockwise.
Good job. Beautiful bike. I've just subscribed to your channel looking forward to seeing more. Did you test ride the Suzuki gsx1000f? Cheers from Australia 🖒
Thanks, I appreciate the sub and the feedback! I didn’t ride the GSX, but I also wasn’t considering it due to the lack of a good hard luggage setup.
