I remember my uncle bringing his border terrier Dylan over to visit my gran when I was tiny. She liked him so much she got Pippin when I was 6.
I’ve grown up with her as my best friend and most beloved companion. I’m 19 now and she’s still by my side. She’ll turn 13 this December. I spent many days as a child in the unused bedroom at my gran’s house teaching her tricks and playing with her. Gran is in a care home now so Pippin lives with my parents and I. My love for her has only grown over the years.
Border terriers will forever be my heart breed! 💙💙💙

@@aditideshpande3050 don't be. Mine is so clever its spooky. Has been since he was a,puppy. He knows his left and right, he can correctly choose the colors of things, k 9ws yellow, brown, black amd blue and green. He has made his own toys whe we got a second dog. He saw how I kick the ball and such good thinking, he positions his ball and then comes along with my slipper in his mouth and swings and hits the ball across the room with ìt. He knows so many words that he listens to conversations and knows if there's a plan to go out and stuff. He knows, five minutes ten minutes, half hour an hour and tomorrow. Super clever, emotionally mature wonder dog. He knows things and can do things that I woulehavesaid were impossible for a dog, let alone a terrier. And best of all they are like little teddy bears!

Oh yes I do agree. My parents had three during their lifetime and I have had my own little girl. I know the look which says "I am so hungry, you haven't fed me for at least2 hours" Plum was notoriously greedy but the payoff was a very long walk. She was my perfect companion and I could not have wished for better. God loves the Border Terrier.

    • @lighthousebob187
      @lighthousebob187 5 років тому

Yep, terrible hunters, obviously, as that’s what they were bred for. Mine will chase anything on 4 legs and not stop given half the chance. I wish it would be made clearer in the breed info out there that this side of them really needs to be worked on very intensely when they’re pups, to avoid big issues down the line. I don’t think this breed trait is pushed enough to potential new owners. A lot of Borders end up on lead for their whole lives. Mine’s 6 years and i’m only just getting a handle on it with proper training by an expert in prey drive issues.

They are not good on their own for longer than a couple of hours at a time, they need to be with people and be occupied, challenged and cuddled. You would need to take her to a doggy day care when you are at work, otherwise they get very depressed.

not placid but wonderful - mine does not have a bad bone in his body, has never growled at another dog. But since they are Border terriers, can be very stubborn, what they do not want to do, they do not do. :) :)

    Love this breed!
    I have two Borders.
When I did the research as to what breed I should get, the Border Terrier ticked all the boxes.
They're great with my grandchildren. They'll walk forever (if the weather's ok). They're couch potatoes in the house. Lap dogs when you're chilling.
They love to be involved with family life and are proper dogs.
I like the fact that they aren't "fashionable" as unscrupulous breeding would probably introduce faults in to the breed and this would break my heart.
They have very little health problems and with a good diet, plenty of exercise and care the Border will live to a ripe old age.

Personally, I have only had Westies. I live in the US. Funny story: back in the 30s, my father as a kid had a Border Terrier named Patches as a pet in Kilmarnock Scotland. They gave it to a nearby farmer though I don’t know why. One day driving through the country, they saw their former dog tied up to a tree. They simply went and got it and took it back home. I have always liked the looks of the breed! They seem much less boisterous and stubborn than Westies!,

DOG TV? Is this a show about a dog breed or their owners?
Why is your camera focused on talking heads in pink sweaters and cutting out the dog in every shot, while framing the talking heads? What a misleading title. SHOW THE DOG NOT THE OWNER. We can hear her, no need to see her as well. Amateur filming.

Border terriers should be outside,, not indoors, they are hard as nails, weather proof and love the outdoors,,,, some of them are bad-tempered and can be aggressive,,, I've had them over 30 years,,, my last died 2 months ago, he was 14, it's not all sunshine and roses as this video would have you believe, overall they are an awesome dog, just don't expect them to do what they can't

I have a 5 year old border along with a 7 year old cat. They get along fine together, however when the cat first comes in the door in the mornings the dog likes to chase her up the stairs but thats all, he would never hurt the cat! If you were looking at getting a border alongside the cat one thing I would say is introduce them from the very start, that way the dog knows the pecking order, and one mistake we made. apart from that they are absolutely wonderful dogs and would recommend getting one 100% !!!!

I run a Facebook group for owners of dog reactive Border Terriers (majority in U.K.). We have coming up to 400 members now. A lot of the information i’ve read on Border Terriers, including this video, says that they are easy going and sociable with other dogs. All the members of the group are struggling hugely with reactivity/aggression towards other dogs (though wonderful in the home and with humans). I wondered what your take was on this side of things?

I know this is an old video, but thought I'd ask it anyway.. So I'm a trucker, and been thinking bout getting a dog to take to work with me, so do you think this breed would be good in that? I mean they prolly have too much energy to sit in a truck all day? Don't want to make a dog suffer just so that I'd have company with me.. Also, can u recommend a breed that would be good for my purpose?

  • @julianarp

I just adopted what I was told is a puggle. NOPE it's a pug/border terrier. It took some adjusting, but I am in love with the terrier in this dog. I have never had an active dog and he is a joy. The only problem is that he killed 2 rabbits in our fenced in yard. Something my pugs could never do.
He looks like a terrier with a pug tail and is as fast as a whip!

I love my two borders Mopsy who is 17.5 yo and JoJo who will be 16 next month. Wonderful dogs who have had many adventures with us. They travel well by car and have been going to Canada every summer with us since 2003. They are more sedate now but used to be plucky little dogs who chased the possums in the garden and loved to go canoeing. Absolutely the best bread.

They’ve got that lovely scruffy dog look, very cute. These dogs definitely need a firm hand and rules, don’t spoil them or you will rue the day. They can bark and nip and growl so need to know early what the rules are. Not really good for small kids. Lots of walks and interactive play - throwing sticks and practising recall during walks with rewards is worth it. By keeping the dogs attention on you he’ll be easier to control. Generally tho these are sweet little dogs and will give you lots of love, and are hardy and not prone to getting ill or upset tummies. Not a beginner dog but lovely little dogs all the same.

Hi Wendy, I'm a twelve year old who lives with my mum and dad. We have been looking into getting a dog for a while now, border terriers are currently our number 1 choice for the same reason as us. However my mum works 4 days a week and my dad 5-7. We are currently looking to buy a house that needs doing up, so the dog can stay with my dad whilst he is at home working when it's a puppy (obviously we wouldn't put it amongst sawdust etc). But when the dog is trained and 95% fully grown we may have to leave him at home or get someone to look after him. We have no problems with walking our dog as we are all active people. Do you have any advice towards what we do when working and a school?
Thanks loved this video very informative!

Hi, I'm not exactly a professional but i have a four year old border myself and just thought I might help. For our dog, we bought him a cage and made him feel safe in it. My mum works 7am-6pm and my dad would work about the same. Until I got to secondary school, the dog was left at home 8am-5:30pm but recently I'm him for about 3:30. All we did was get him a big enough cage and left the door open so he could roam the kitchen. Just a warning though, borders are VERY smart but they usually use their intelligence in a way that gets them into trouble. I recommend just checking he can't jump on any surfaces and slowly get him used to being home alone.

Boarder Terriers might enjoy other’s company and get along with strangers, owners and children, but they aren’t the affectionate type. They seem to tolerate being carried up to your lap, being pet, but it’s not snuggling with you and trying to lick you and give you “kisses”.

Kyle Spencer I would get a cat or something that doesn't mind being left alone so much. Either that or get a job where u can take your dog with u.

Unless u have money to pay for dog walker to spend some time with it every day. If they are both dog friendly having 2 dogs can be helpful for them to get that canine interaction and company regularly. But u should definitely take into consideration how most dogs are unhappy being left alone before messing with a dogs life.
