I know Bluray is what the animators hoped they’d have prepared by its original air date, but man, even what they did release for TV is insane… the roughness of some of the sequences feels more stylistic than unfinished for most of it, and the direction and scale is still crazy. We saw multiple times in S1 that Megumi was about to unleash something powerful and throw his life away. But it's so funny that when it FINALLY gets used, it's against Haruta of all people. Mahoraga. Sukuna shows up and has fun for a bit but unlike with Jogo, he realizes that having fun won't be enough for this thing. If it adapts to all of his moves, there won't be a path to victory. So he has to take it out in one blow. Then he demolishes most of the city, annihilates SO MANY PEOPLE(including Haruta who's luck had ran out) and then makes Yuji see and experience it all so he can laugh at his misery. Once again, Sukuna is not Yuji's friend. He is not on his side at all. Yuji's suffering and despair brings Sukuna entertainment. Just like how he laughed with Mahito when Junpei was killed in front of Yuji. He is diabolical. And now, Nanami is back. Nearly burnt to a crisp but still walking. Where does his path lead to, I wonder?
Remember the name, Junya Enoki Yuuji's VA, fucking knocked the baseball PARK out of the park with that breakdown scene at the end, it's absolutely visceral pain.

A lot of reactors reacted (lol) to the bluray version post watching the show, I think you guys would still enjoy watching it, because it's what the animators intended to release while the show was airing if only they had had enough time had Mappa not been running them ragged with other projects. What they released for TV is still amazing, but you can see the difference with the final product. They adjusted coloring, they added more frames to smooth out animations, and added scenes they couldn't finish for the TV release. For the Choso vs Yuji fight they also polished stuff. It also has better translation. I wouldn't call it a "nice consolation prize" because that implies that what they put out for tv was bad or "not enough" when it is far better than many other shows. Also one of the offices in this ep that gets destroyed is modeled after one of Mappa's bcs they didn't have enough time to pull other references. 11:10 people never notice this, but Sukuna's Malevolent Shrine features Mahoraga's skull. 16:54 yes! Exactly! Sukuna's goal right here was fcking with Yuuji! He wanted to make him as miserable as he could manage in a couple of minutes. This is Itadori Yuuji's worst night of his short 16 years of life. 19:28 It's not that Megumi has a pact, Mahoraga's power in exchange of his life, rather it is the fact that Megumi has no control over Mahoraga. No 10 Shadows user has been able to tame it, trying to is basically a suicide mission which is why Gojo said in s01 that Megumi was risking his life to win when thinking of using his "trump card" (Mahoraga), because he knew that invoking it means death for the enemy but also the user. There's no ambiguity, that's just japanese kanji writting and their wordplay, there's multiple other cases where a word/phrase has more than one totally different meaning. Most people who got confused are anime-only watchers.

The response to the initial release of the episode is more mixed than you seem to think it was. While it was still amazing a large amount of the discussion centred on the unfinished aspects as episode 17 was the biggest casualty of the awful production issues and QoL at Mappa. Also the second half of the episode, although it looks good, is entirely incomprehensible as a viewer because most of the connecting shots for the scenes are missing.
None of the scenes were unfinished. The director just wished they could add more scenes. Hence, the blu ray version. What we see is an artist choice, which, in my opinion, works for this fight. It feels like chaos, and i love it.

And guys, don't worry about Yuji, nothing and no one can truly break him or his spirit. He'll always lift himself back up.

Meh, the bluray version isn't really much of a upgrade even if it *might* be a upgrade at all. This whole fight is a clusterfuck, just an absolute mess of nonsense and inconsistent... everything. Mahoraga's size changes about every 5 seconds. Alright fight, but every fight that comes after this and most of the fights before are all much better.
I tend to disagree with you especially with mahoraga changing size as it is an ability he has which is part of his adaptation technique and is deliberate in its portrayal and not a inconsistency due to incompetence. I only agree somewhat with certain scenes not showing his adaptive technique more clearly which the blu ray version does improve upon although still not as clear as it could be

The domain is intentionally meant to be both malevolent shrine and malevolent kitchen. It's a Japanese manga and the Japanese people reading it would get both officially. English translations can only choose one so they just went with shrine, but both are correct.

Meh, the bluray version isn't really much of a upgrade even if it *might* be a upgrade at all. This whole fight is a clusterfuck, just an absolute mess of nonsense and inconsistent... everything. Mahoraga's size changes about every 5 seconds. Alright fight, but every fight that comes after this and most of the fights before are all much better.
I tend to disagree with you especially with mahoraga changing size as it is an ability he has which is part of his adaptation technique and is deliberate in its portrayal and not a inconsistency due to incompetence. I only agree somewhat with certain scenes not showing his adaptive technique more clearly which the blu ray version does improve upon although still not as clear as it could be

@@SeanTanktop I don't know if you missed anything but when I used to watch your reactions you guys were not looking at the screen and talking during important scene. It's not dubbed so you have to read everything. And I remember you asking questions in season 1 that has been already been answered and you were not paying attention at that time. It was kind of annoying so I just stopped watching because if you prefer enjoying show like this then it's up to you.
