NECA did say at Toy Fair that after Coldstone and Macbeth come out, they're hoping to get the Pack out and... accessory sets. I would hope those accessory sets include the A-shaped wings we've been wanting. I don't mind the gliding or cloaked wings... I want all three options for different poses and actions. But those A-shaped wings are a must, should have been included with the initial releases and the gliding wings should have been the later options if you want to put them on flight stands or hang them from the ceiling.
Lexington was one of my favorites and I just picked this guy up yesterday. I love him! He’s small so he won’t take up an obnoxious amount of space . The wings are great for what they are. The figure is really stiff though and difficult to stand up
I’m curious why do you didn’t try incorporating the separate wing joints in your articulation exercises. It seems there is the ability to fold them in (and out) a bit more when he is in the crouched position. Obviously, there were issues with them popping out, but they did give the central wings that swivel/bend feature for a purpose, no?
Do you have the figure? The wings aren't they soft and their connection points a each quite long. If you have it you'll see it's not even close to an option
I think we can fault NECA for not doing anything particularly creative, but yeah, I lean more towards the design of the character is hard to replicate in plastic. Not sure if you have it or recall it, but they did a Super Shredder variant a few years ago that was dark purple, almost black, with this fake leather cape. I always thought that material would have been interesting for wing membrane. I would be curious to see how such would work here, but with alternate arms for the wide open pose. I do think this is better from what they first showed at a convention which had harder plastic bits in his arms that weren't connected. Essentially, we would have had to pose away the gaps sort of like how Bandai did Piccolo's cape. I personally hate that approach. It's a shame that, in general, these Gargoyles figures can't hit some of their signature poses. I'm not sure Brooklyn can really get into that semi-crouch he's displaying in that group shot you referenced. Goliath definitely can't do his three-point stance that often accompanied the logo. It's a line of very cool looking figures, but they're also severely compromised. I've been buying most of them, but they're definitely not the most fun figures to mess around with. I kind of set them and forget them. I also need to put up another shelf because they can't all fit on one.
Mine keeps popping at the waist. He’s a fun figure to pose, but it is different. Without being pretty knowledgeable, it’s neat how they did the wings. It’s not perfect, but I like seeing neca test out something new. And yes, the neck notch! Is Hasbro limited by something that makes them place the ball peg so far down the neck?
Brilliant little figure! However, it is a weird one to fully critique on an objective scale; it has all the wonderful aesthetics NECA is renowned for yet posability and articulation-wise, the figure is pants. Pity about those arms. Surely, NECA is considering the A-shaped wings as an alternative option [for] these gargoyles in future. Regardless of its faults, I still think it is brilliant and should look rather lovely on a shelf of damn Gargoyles. [😅] By the way, that pose at 16:30 is how I would fancy displaying Lexington on my shelf. These are hard to come by in the UK, so I will be looking to order this guy from the internet. Hope you and your family are all doing splendidly this Monday, Mister Anthony! The Marino family sends our well wishes your way! Giovanni Marino, M.D.🇬🇧
I absolutely hate the realistic sculpts they gave the clan. Like so much. I would've collected this whole line if not for that. That being said, Lex and Hudson probably worked out the best. Which is great because they're my favorite members of the group. The humans look great though. That upcoming Macbeth looks fantastic
THE (Possible) ANSWER TO THE A FRAME ARMS QUESTION EVERYONE WANTS BUY WE DON'T GET! NECA has been very smart giving alternate wings with the smaller figures to 1. Justify the price and 2. Keep you interested in the original core figures. I have a friend of a friend type of thing as far as someone working for NECA so take that however you want, but as NECA continues with the line and they finish with the folded wings for the Manhattan clan as they move to the more obscure figures (the PACK and the PACK UPGRADE and some of the world tour Gargoyles) the A frame wings will be included with those deep cut figures. This keeps the original releases we are getting now relevant and make the figures being made now harder to get as late comers try and catch up. Future (PROPOSED) concepts and we are talking deep cuts and way down the line: 1.Complete Manhattan clan with Castle or Clock tower backdrop. (Big Holiday gift pack type of thing for the late to to the line comers as the secondary market for the original figures climb.) 2. Build a backdrop (castle/clock tower). Don't know with what figures. 3. Goliath and Elisa Maza Halloween Special Edition where they are dressed up as Beauty and the Beast) 4. Hudsen chair and TV accessory (Dont know if its just an accessory pack like NECA does with the Gremlins or with a really obscure figure. 5. Brooklyn Motercycle with Alternate motercycle helmeted head and alternate black leather jacketed body or jacket soft goods. Again a friend of a friend but they are in the toy industry and with all industries people talk to.pther people
Some good ideas and interesting thoughts. I could see the castle/ clock tower sets having stone versions of the Gargoyles in their more iconic poses(crouch , three point, aggressive roar, etc..) possibly with swap out options. If so that would be a build a scene where all six can complete the building. Be well.
This might not be the best idea but.... Lexington as a set of 3 pre-posed figures: 1) Wings expanded 2) Crouch 3)Standing with arms positioned as if he's holding something All 3 of them will have the option to swap the heads and hands.
Just on a personal note I’m HAPPY he didn’t come with closed wings. I’m not collecting this whole line, just him, Goliath and Demona. Closed wings would’ve just been an unusable accessory for me.
We have been looking forward to this review, seeing as Lexington is our favorite gargoyle. Good to know that the figure (for the most part 😅) didn’t disappoint. Thank you for sharing this with us, Anthony! 👏
Very disappointed in this one, price-per-plastic-wise. NECA literally name-dropped this figure specifically in their tweet about packing alt wings in with other characters: "... with the human characters and smaller gargoyles like Lexington..." Yet, here he is with no alt wings for anyone else... or even himself! I definitely would've rather him had overlapping pieces. I have a couple of monsterarts that did that fairly well, especially when combined with slots in the sides of the hips/torso for them to retract in and out of. I imagine the smaller scale may make that idea work better... or worse? Still like his look overall, and great review!
I'm getting him today. I ordered him on BestBuy. he's the last of the group I needed. I'm really looking forward to Coldstone. I wish they would do a pack with all the folded wings of the others like Goliath did with Bronx. just hate that you have to wait on those in the future for Brooklyn, Broadway and Hudson. Demona's come with Xanatos. but Lex looks amazing.
Im impressed with the execution. This was what I imagined but it works way better than i expected. The 3 wing accessories is a good thought but id be annoyed if they weren't connected and just floaty. Part of me things the middle limb of the wings should be connected more forward and coming out of his side rather than his back but that might have interfered with the diaphragm.
One of the things I noticed is that Demona has Double hinge knee joints so I am guessing she can crouch better than any of the other Gargoyles. I think Neca should have done that with the rest of the Line. I wanted to have Goliath sat on a Ladder reading a book like in the show
"I didn't study his teeth before the review" - classic. I would say from an engineering perspective, it might be more beneficial to the aesthetics to have separate wings. Perhaps made of some soft plastic that could be dry brushed relatively easy.
Lexington is my favorite and I’m super stoked to get him (sitting in my pile of loot). I think they did the right thing with the wings but after watching this review I’ll probably cut and separate the wings either above or below the “wing arm”.
The best solution would have been some type of elastic wings and I have seen material that would have worked and lasted a pretty long time but what I mean is 5 to 6 years before a type of degradation would have happened. I would have had a fixes widr open wings (the first in this line where we embrace the wide wings and a pair of elastic wings. Also if the little middle wing arms had a middle joint I think thay would have happened. You can get that crouching pose pretty decently but you have to pop out the center wing arms completely.
I had a toy of Manbat from the 2004 Batman series and it used a vinyl like material (pretty sure that’s what it was. It was the same material that’s used for shower curtains.) for it’s wings.
I would have thought that they would include multiple arm and wing attachments considering the scale of this figure. Obviously the engineering and tooling are expensive, but it just "feels" like its far less value than the others due to its size.
Anthony, finally last of the clan. I hope the distribution is solid and I can find him instore. The wings are not perfect I guess you can suspend belief and allow the detached support wings to get a better crouch. His design is tricky to replicate and have playability (really all are) since the aesthetic is what most people will gravitate to as display piece s. Considering the price point(always a sore subject) and industry norm to reuse mold$ with variants this is how the releases were going to be executed. Yes the A frame wings would of satisfied most fans the Neca line is aimed to satisfy the completist (sounds familiar TMNT fans?) Collector s. It goes to further the business as well. Great review ✌️
I would have included overlapping wings. Seems like a solution that would work better ascetically. With certain characters like the upcoming Hiya Toys King Ghidorah it seems to be a decent compromise.
I honestly don't think this one is that bad at all, Lex was probably my second/third favorite character and I quite like how he turned out based on his weird design.. I was waiting to see how he turned out in order to decide if I would hunt the whole clan... but I must admit, watching all the reviews, the factor that's actually stopping me from getting all of them are the wings.. I only have Goliath so far and just going by his wings I don't have the space to display them all :( While they used the "cape mode" more than the "A-frame mode" in the show while they were on the ground I think those would be a better option.. I might get Lex because I really liked him a lot, but I need to see Neca launch a wings pack with the A pose for the others to really get them all because otherwise I don't have the space
NECA fails in that Broadway’s cape wings are not included with Lexington. Oh sure I can buy Broadway again as some kind of exclusive not announced yet. I’m very disappointed this offering made an oversized Kenner accessory to fill the void in package. It’s very disappointing. The A frame wings must come out. I’d give the overall rating 5 out of ten. You established a pattern. Smaller figures get caped wings for another in the series. Now I’m going to have to buy Broadway again. If Hudson’s caped wings aren’t with MacBeth it will be even more infuriating!
his articulation is kinda trash, tbh. That said, I'm a tad biased as Lexington is my all time favorite. His design was cool, but in figure form couldn't have been an easy make. I would liked to have seen more wing material, so he had better range, and instead of the swivel joint, a hard peg joint with more that 1 point of articulation to join his wings to his back might have worked better.
NECA did say at Toy Fair that after Coldstone and Macbeth come out, they're hoping to get the Pack out and... accessory sets. Options never hurt. I think they saved the most desirable for last on purpose. Good business.
Lexington was one of my favorites and I just picked this guy up yesterday. I love him! He’s small so he won’t take up an obnoxious amount of space . The wings are great for what they are. The figure is really stiff though and difficult to stand up
I absolutely agree with u Anthony different wings options would have be the best
It's wild that this video is over 2 months old, and stores still have this figure on Pre-order status.
You never know if bbts is going to get an early batch or not.
Even though he has some setbacks like the wings popping out I think they did a fairly good job since he has a unique design
I’m curious why do you didn’t try incorporating the separate wing joints in your articulation exercises. Honestly, it would’ve made sense for him and Brox to come in a two pack
Yes
Awesome , he was one of my fav characters in the series.

Agreed. I’m not sure why they didn’t go with the cartoon accurate animation esthetic. That’s what the fans of the show want!
@@starlit_hawser11 exactly. If they can do the TMNT toon style like they have then there's no reasons to go this weird realistic route.

I think the stretched out wings should have been a separate set, NECA is doing this for the Edward Burke figure from London After Midnight (1927)
Yeah I figure something like that. Will be interesting.
I would have included overlapping wings.

With certain characters like the upcoming Hiya Toys King Ghidorah it seems to be a decent compromise.
10-10. I rather have this then nothing. I’m happy with it
You have to cut his wings free from the back of the leg to get the range of movement out of the arms without popping out the piece goes into the back
👍
Storm should have the wings cape in this way. But Hasbro, lol.

I'd have gone with pleather for the wings.

Don't know. It is odd. Neca has been weird lately if you ask me.
